  1. yeah, i'm really stunned how great it is and how much i like it honestly... i had lost a good deal of interest in them w/ Picaresque. not that it was bad by any means, but i dunno... just didn't really do it for me like the previous 2. this one is a completely different animal altogether. like i said, i can see it alienating some fans, but gaining tons of new ones too. i'm actually pretty damn excited to see them in November now it almost sounds like Ben Gibbard doing some backing vocals towards the middle of the last track, in the right channel. there's a girl in the left and at times
  2. this is pretty fucking good so far... def think i'm gonna like it more than Picaresque at least. the 2nd track is all Yes/Prog'd out, love it, haha. have a feeling fans of the first 2 records may be a wee bit dissapointed in some of the sounds on this record tho...
  3. new Roots, yeah, and i'm not too big on it either... i can't say whether or not it's better than The Tipping Point or not, it might be... def not as good as Phrenology then again i really haven't loved a FULL record of theirs all the way through since Things Fall Apart... the last few have had a few great tracks, but on the whole they, along w/ now J5, are both falling into the "must have R&B type hooks to sell records" way of thinking i also think that the Roots have suffered tremendously live without any beatboxer anymore. both Skratch & Rhazel were a huge part of their live
  4. not sure, but IMO it's not very good :-/
  5. the new album is pretty mediocre, i must admit, especially to myself a fan since Mother's Milk came out. it's better than By The Way though, but ot say there's not a bad track out of what, 26 or whatever???? come on... that would inherently make it the best double album of all time if that was the case. imo it would have been a really solid 16 song record.
  6. not too surprising: http://www.billboardbulletin.com/bb/biz/ar...02/7002/7005/-1 and Flea & Chad also worked the pit crew for some racing team recently i believe thing is, BEP used to be a pretty decent hip hop group before Fergie joned
  7. i think for me the big part of what i didn't really love about Blues was Jenny Benford's backing vocals on a lot of the songs :-/
  8. LOVE it... i wasn't so big on What Comes After The Blues honestly... at least not compared to the versions of a few songs that appeared on the Trials & Errors live record (Dark Don't Hide It especially is weak compared to the live one) i really love the solo one too, which surprises me a bit, as i was never the biggest fan of the more stripped Songs:Ohia stuff always, and that it was being compared to his Pyramid Electric Co. record.
  9. fwiw, their Nike commercial was just a jam if i recall, and not an actual song of theirs, which is what he was getting at moreso than actually appearing in the commercial. but you're right, pretty funny/rather hypocritical statement
  10. well at least we both love Buckner & Molina
  11. thing is, Midlake aren't really that "hyped" a few bloggers and forum posters who really love the record != hype necessarily now if Pitchfork gave it like a 9.x, etc, sure, but they don't deserve to be called overly hyped, as they have not been. along w/ them, Sound Team & Voxtrot, and i'm sure others, Texas is definitely putting out some of the best music around this year imo. i'm sure you being from there, it's no different than me replying to people about Tapes N' Tapes, as while good, they're def not the best band out of the Twin Cities right now by any means either.
  12. ^^ hoping to see The Advantage on Friday
  13. lol, hey now, i have an appreciation for classical music, much like i do w/ the Blues, it's just not a style of music that i crave to listen to all too much. i listen to the Classical radio station sometimes when i need to chill out though i mostly just am not a huge fan of listening to huge orchestra and really bombastic string type stuff, i dig the mellower and less abrasive stuff a lot. how often do you really honestly listen to hip hop or say bluegrass yourself?
  14. sick, Q and Not U used to rule, drummer is great
  15. lol, hey now, i've listened to my fair share of Classical in my day (took a couple classical music courses), just not something that interests me whatsoever anymore, sorry
  16. for me the album really clicked after about a month after i first heard it (leaked sometime in March), which was right around the turn of Spring here... perfect spring record, but there's also plenty of lyrical references to Winter that conjure up plenty of images of Winter for me as well, so i have a feeling it's gonna work great for both seasons
  17. see, while it's a great song, it's def not my fave song on the record by anymeans i'd prolly pick Young Bride, Head Home, We Gathered In Spring and In This Camp ahead of it, just off the top of my head.
  18. mr. classical music snob is not allowed to use the word snoozer if you guys don't at least like the first track, Roscoe, i don't know what the fuck is wrong with you, def not a "snoozer", especially compared to some of the stuff on The Eraser, which is fairly snoozy imo.
  19. couldn't find a smaller one, but yeah, i dig it. it's the dude from Stars other band/project, guess it's their 2nd record? pretty good
  20. Muse, blah... sorry, just haven't thought much of them since Symmetry myself... Roddy's record is good, but not top 10 material for me by any means, and i'm a pretty huge Idlewild fanboy... Black Keys... hmm... don't think it's in my top 10 either. It's really good, just don't like it nearly as much as their other records other than thickfreakness, which it's def better than M. Ward & TVOTR i will probably give you, even tho i prefer Midlake to TVOTR and the new Thom Yorke... well... i like it, but wouldn't rate it too high either on the year
