albums such as? Midlake isn't getting a ton of props from places like Pitchfork, etc., but that never means shit because my top 10 rarely rates very high on there anyway it's not that it's a mindblowing record or anything, just very very solid 70's Americana throwback sounding record w/ some really awesome melodies, pretty solid lyrics, and the singer has a very nice croon imo. their previous album & EP don't really compare imo, they were more of a Flaming Lips/Mercury Rev type thing then.

yeah i really don't get how someone could find Midlake offensive? i mean you don't have to agree with us that it's a great record, or one of the better of the year, but i don't understand any outright dislike/hate i guess...
-
he just can't handle their succulent & pristine melodies

the version of the new Decemberists that leaked is missing tracks 9 & 10 and track 8 is fucked up i know right?
-
saw them on Saturday night, pretty solid live hopefully that new Outkast is better than the last record, but i didn't think much of the first single too late my friend, don't think you're gonna convince too many people of that but yeah, the new M. Ward is fabulous. along w/ Trials def in my top 5 on the year (maybe top 3 even)

yeah it's surprisingly not bad... i'm actually quite obsessed w/ that track that Stipe guests on, Dancing On The Lip of a Volcano... one of my fave songs this summer
-
i like it a LOT as well, great great album opener yeah the Alicia Keyes lyric is weird, and the way he phrases the word "orphanages" lol, but still, can't wait to hear the rest!

actually they got plenty of hype long before the Pitchfork review, the album came out last October and was buzzed about quite a bit in '05, the Pfork review just rocketed it even more though. it is a good album, but i think i don't even had it in my top 25 for last year if i recall. as for BoH, was actually surprised Pfork gave it such a good review, i figured they'd give it a fairly ho-hum review, but i'm glad they did as it totally deserves it. http://www.myspace.com/girltalkmusic it's pretty insane. gets old fast, but great party record

Tapes is pretty good... it's great seeing a local band doing so well, but i think they're getting a wee bit too much hype honestly... but i can't fault them for that new Lucero is pretty sweet, specially if you like early Bruce Springsteen

he's coming back here in October @ the Fine Line, w00t

can't say i'm too bummed she's not coming back to Minneapolis... was a great show the first time around tho

no Neko does have a very pretty voice, i wasn't including her in the "doesn't have a pretty voice" comment. i just find both Neko & Matt's sound totally timeless, in that their music both sounds like it's from a different era at times (Matt's the 30's and 40's, Neko's the 50's)

they played Montreal & Toronto in April
