  1. Thanks. But, I did make my decision and, after consulting with a few folks, including both attorneys and my family, I decided not to sign the release. It appeared that I would have been giving the company what was essentially co-ownership of the song. Meaning that, they could do whatever the hell they wanted to do with it, including farming it out to other artists to be covered, while paying me nothing. I would still be able to do the same, without paying them anything, but they could really do anything they wanted to, short of selling off the song, outright. No thanks. I think that I will,
  2. That was beautiful. Hopefully he's ditched the overalls for good, though!
  3. Why didn't Counting Crows get sued for ripping off Del Amitri? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSCfIVa9Shs The only more-blatant ripoff was The Jam stealing from The Beatles; "Taxman".
  4. After talking to my wife, I decided not to sign it, but to search out genuine representation. It's nice when your spouse really believes in you, you know? ("Your songs are just too good to just sign away like that, Todd...") God, I love her.
  5. Wow. My first-ever concert in 1987 was U2 with opening act Lone Justice. Haven't thought of Maria McKee since around that time.
  6. Yeah, my cousin is an attorney and I just got a hold of her. She explained it to me, and it seems to be exactly what I thought that it was. Now, I just need to decide if it's a risk that I want to take. (I keep the rights to my song, but they can do with is whatever they want, without ever paying me.)
  7. My favorite veggie spot is AMITABUL: AMITABUL"]http://amitabulchicago.com Creative, tasty vegan food that doesn't leave this carnivore missing the meat. Definitely try the Soy Pancakes. No, they are not sweet breakfast-style pancakes, they are crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside beauts with shredded veggies mixed in. Served over rice. Top 'em with the watery plum sauce and the spicy miso paste and it is heaven!
  8. Not looking to negotiate. Just looking to see whether or not I SHOULD sign.
  9. A song of mine won a contest and I may have a couple of issues with a couple of the clauses in the release form. If you could contact me, I would love to hear what you think. Thanks.
  10. and then a few more that I have to post separately...
  11. Would love to see No Man. And... is Mission of Burma doing anything these days?
  12. Most anticipating my own release. But other than that: Alex Chilton Magnetic Fields GBV
  13. One of my favorite songs of the 'aughts. And there's a fan-made video that is just about the cutest thing that I've ever seen:
  14. The first (only) time I saw fIREHOSE, Uncle Tupelo opened for them. How's that for a twin bill?
