  1. First listen, but think that I like this better than BOOM!
  2. HOW THE HELL DID I MISS THIS? Has anyone seen this? Impressions? I loved this band back in the late 80's and early 90's. And, around that time, they were, in fact, the GREATEST live band in the world. I can attest to that fact firsthand.
  3. I would love to see them. The only related band that I've seen is Monks of Doom, who actually kicked a ton of ass.
  4. None of this is my work, but my friend Matt did the animation and associated illustration. It's his first attempt at this sort of thing and I think that it's, frankly, amazing. Best viewed in full-screen HD. That way you can catch all the little details.
  5. As GtrPlyr stated in his post: Country Music HoF is a great day. It was a LOT better done than I expected it to be and really, really, really cool. Lots of music (of course), and some artifacts that you might not expect to see. My favorite thing: Gram Parsons' nudie suit! He was a much smaller man than I thought that he was. That thing was just so cool.
  6. So, it's just gonna be me and my acoustic guitar. I'm thinking about just sitting down in front of a few mics and busting out and mixing the 8 or 9 songs in a single session. Cutting it completely live, with no (or bare minimum) overdubs. I think that, with the format that I've chosen, it will bring out the intimacy inherent in that kind of recording. I know that it will be more difficult to get a perfect take, but that is maybe part of the point. What do you all think about albums like this. I'm thinking if stuff like Springsteen's Nebraska an
  7. Well, maybe not a movie actor, but Steve Burns (of Blue's Clues fame) put out a pretty good record a few years back. His backing band? The Flaming Lips! Enjoy.
  8. Loose 15 lbs. Write (at least) one song a month. Get a handle on my finances. Find more time for just me and the wife.
  9. I have MS and seizures, so I have to drink unleaded. Honestly, unless I do a side by side tasting, I can't tell the difference. It's become all about the heat, the aroma, the taste, and the ritual. Does the same thing for me.
  10. I drink decaf, but I make my own, at my desk. I agree about the etiquette. But it goes both ways.
  11. Since the kids were born, I don't get to many shows, period and this year was no exception. But, one major show that I did get to this year was: Ray Davies @ The Chicago Theater My parents won 6th row center seats and gave them to me, knowing that I would appreciate them more than they would. First time seeing one of my all-time favorite songwriters and he did NOT disappoint. Voice still sounds great (even if a little aged), and the songs are... some of the best ever written. Ray is a freak and, being so close to him, it was obvious that he was having as good a time as the audience was. So, so
  12. my son is reading this with me now and he's all like... "Um... Will Smith is an actor!" Yeah, he started as a rapper/singer, but I think that we can count him as an actor first now, no? (Good call, Cary!)
  13. It is the rare musician, ESPECIALLY an instrumentalist, whose style is so singular, that you can identify them almost instantly, with only a note or two. But they are out there. I can think of three in particular, who all I need to hear is one or two notes from their instrument, to know (almost) certainly that it's them. Thelonious Monk His chord voicings, melodies, and harmonic inventions are like noone else. Even his best imitators can't seem to get it just right. Mark Knopfler It's all about the tone. His fingers on the strings. The way that it snaps. One of my favorite guitar players.
