  1. It's 80's power pop day!!! The Plimsouls - Everywhere At Once The Plimsouls - The Plimsouls Hoodoo Gurus - Mars Needs Guitars Hoodoo Gurus - Magnum Cum Louder
  2. I'm not sure if we've mentioned this album in past threads (way back), but I was just thinking about this today. And there is no thread dedicated specifically to this bad boy. I have a 180g vinyl copy of this at home, in my crawl, waiting for a new stereo (which I just got) to be assembled, and my turntable attached! I remember being vaguely disappointed with the record, but am looking forward to hearing it again.
  3. I'm gonna have to live with it for a bit to make my final determination, but it may be their best album.
  4. And how could you not like this guy? And, regarding playing into his 90's while suffering from arthritis:
  5. No Les Paul = no rock n' roll. And yeah, the invention of multitrack recording... what can you say? The guy was to recorded music what Henry Ford was to manufacturing.
  6. THE PLANETS Is being sold by a novel new method -- snail mail! Anyway, I've heard a couple of tracks (I'm recording with the same guy that mixed the album), and it sounds pretty amazing. Much more lush than their sound in the past. Less Replacements and more Raspberries, Posies, Big Star, Jellyfish, etc. Just thought that I'd give y'all a heads-up. I'm ordering mine this week.
  7. I like the 1997 s/t. Some really good songs on there.
  8. Pixies - Trompe Le Monde The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds Pulp - Different Class Café Tacuba - Un Viaje Mark Sultan - The Sultanic Verses
  9. Cornershop - Handcream for a Generation
  10. Just a lot of iTunes and streaming stuff from IAC Music.
  11. This is good news. Pee-Wee is outstanding. Too bad that I'm in Chicago, or I'd get tickets to this for my sons, who are huge Pee-Wee fans. (Most of the adult jokes would most-likely go over their heads, if this show is anything like his last stage show.)
  12. Also, this album: Blue Ruin - Flame (which features former Birthday Party drummer, Phil Calvert) is pretty good Cave-esque dark, bluesy rock. Good luck finding it, though.
  13. AND THE IDEA KEEPS SPREADING!!! Hopefully it will make it to the majors one day.
  14. Yes, you pay $2.98 shipping. For $2.99, I'd say that a lot of these records are well worth it.
  15. Also, PLEASE check out Live Seeds. Has ferocious versions of a lot of his best tracks. And, if you want to get tangential with Nick stuff... you need to go back into his catalog and hear the old stuff he did with The Birthday Party. And then, you need to hear the solo stuff from his old bass player.
  16. This one is like a melodic hybrid of Black Sabbath and Nirvana. No classic, but still some really great heavy rock on here. Burning Brides - Fall of the Plastic Empire For $0.01 at Amazon. And, if you don't have this one yet... don't be a dummy!!! Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend For $0.01 at Amazon
  17. The Sea and Cake - Car Alarm Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool Burning Brides - Fall of the Plastic Empire Paul McCartney & Wings - Band On the Run Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend
  18. There's also: Jeff Mangum - Live At Jittery Joe's And also this: Which is a 4-song EP. Only contains 2 "real" songs, though. And, I do have a few bedroom demos, if any of y'all are interested. It's not much, but it's something.
  19. John Coltrane - A Love Supreme Sixto Rodriguez - Cold Fact Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It The Records - Smashes, Crashes, and Near Misses The Brokedowns - New Brains for Everyone
  20. I, myself only just came over to the dark side. Nick blows me away.
  21. "Favorite" = Completely subjective; totally personal. "Best" = Based on (assumed) "objective" criteria and a critical consensus.
  22. Paul Weller - Wild Wood One of the best-sounding pieces of vinyl that I have ever heard. Made to be heard on wax.
