Glad I bought this instead:

Wife and kids are going to see this today while I'm at work. Looking forward to hearing what they think of it.

It's a collab. between Pollard and Richard Davies (of Cardinal), both of whom I like a lot. I had the album in my hand yesterday and just couldn't pull the trigger: Post- (and later-era) GBV kept me from pulling the trigger on it, but I am still curious to hear what these two could have come up with. Here's the AMG (3-star) review: I'm now having non-buyer's remorse. I gotta pick this up. Or, do I? No links necessary (I'll buy the thing) but I do want to hear opinions, if there are any. (Gee... ya think?)

I'm not sure if we've mentioned this album in past threads (way back), but I was just thinking about this today. And there is no thread dedicated specifically to this bad boy. I have a 180g vinyl copy of this at home, in my crawl, waiting for a new stereo (which I just got) to be assembled, and my turntable attached! I remember being vaguely disappointed with the record, but am looking forward to hearing it again.

I'm gonna have to live with it for a bit to make my final determination, but it may be their best album.
-
And how could you not like this guy? And, regarding playing into his 90's while suffering from arthritis:
-
No Les Paul = no rock n' roll. And yeah, the invention of multitrack recording... what can you say? The guy was to recorded music what Henry Ford was to manufacturing.

THE PLANETS Is being sold by a novel new method -- snail mail! Anyway, I've heard a couple of tracks (I'm recording with the same guy that mixed the album), and it sounds pretty amazing. Much more lush than their sound in the past. Less Replacements and more Raspberries, Posies, Big Star, Jellyfish, etc. Just thought that I'd give y'all a heads-up. I'm ordering mine this week.

I like the 1997 s/t. Some really good songs on there.

This is good news. Pee-Wee is outstanding. Too bad that I'm in Chicago, or I'd get tickets to this for my sons, who are huge Pee-Wee fans. (Most of the adult jokes would most-likely go over their heads, if this show is anything like his last stage show.)

OOOH! Great, great record!

Just arrived:
-
Also, this album: Blue Ruin - Flame (which features former Birthday Party drummer, Phil Calvert) is pretty good Cave-esque dark, bluesy rock. Good luck finding it, though.
-
AND THE IDEA KEEPS SPREADING!!! Hopefully it will make it to the majors one day.

Yes, you pay $2.98 shipping. For $2.99, I'd say that a lot of these records are well worth it.
