  1. I'll assume that you're already heard Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea? A stone-cold classic that should fall smack-dab into the middle of your tastes, as defined by the bands, above. If not, remedy that NOW! Let's see... The Format - Dog Problems A perfect pop record with one impeccable pop song after the next. All are bittersweet, though, so the cavities shouldn't be that deep. And, my standard recommendation: Joe Pisapia - Daydreams The sometime member of Guster released the best album of the '00s. And this is it. Another one... Pugwash - Earworm A few pedal steel gu
  2. I remember a few of these from my time in college and just out. Anyone from Chicago or St. Louis remember: The Unconscious - A St. Louis funk/punk band that played just about every other week at The Blue Note in Columbia, MO when I was at Mizzou. They were a ton of fun. But when I found their old tape recently, it really didn't hold up. Plaid Retina - A Champaign, IL prog/punk band that I saw once in a basement in Carbondale, IL. Great musicians, but they didn't make as much of a splash as the Touch & Go bands from Chicago. A victim of geography, I think. The Flavor Channel - A band
  3. Martin Newell - A Summer Tamarind Pugwash - Almanac Wire - Send Bad Brains - The Youth Are Getting Restless
  4. I must've caught them on a good night. They were great when I saw them.
  5. ADD IT UP!!! ADD IT UP!!! ADD IT UP!!! ADD IT UP!!! ADD IT UP!!! damn....
  6. Two more today: Los Lobos - La Pistola y El Corazon ($0.85 and well-worth it!) Sugar - File Under Easy Listening (For $0.01, I suppose it's about time that I picked this one up!)
  7. I was never really a fan, but I have to agree with the above statement. Regardless of personal taste, this is a sad, sad loss. R.I.P. Mary.
  8. Sugar - Besides The Move - The Best of The Move Tim Armstrong - A Poet's Life Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
  9. The Gothic Archies - The Tragic Treasury The Wrens - The Meadowlands Ashtray Boy - The Honeymoon Suite
  10. It has to be "Mary". And probably by a wide margin.
  11. I think you're right that The Soft Boys was mostly Robyn's baby. But, as I said, those 2 songs that I've heard are pretty damn great examples of excellent pop songwriting. And, so far, this EP is pretty good, but not spectacular. Although, maybe it'll grow on me. Definitely shows Hitchcock's influence on his writing more that The Katrina & The Waves tunes that I mentioned do. EDIT: "Old Straight Track" is more pure pop/Katrina than other things on this thing so far, and is, therefore, jumping out at me as one of the better songs. (Although it could certainly fit into a Soft Boys record.)
  12. All I really know from him is "Going Down to Liverpool" (Bangles version) and "Walking on Sunshine". But, I figure if the guy can write 2 songs that damn good, he's gotta be capable of many more. Anyone else know of any prime examples? I would love to get some discussion of/love for Kimberly going on here. Is there a good compilation available? (Just found this live EP at his website: http://www.kimberleyrew.com/ridgeway.html Will DL it now and report back. But I'd still love a tenner from a knowledgeable fan.)
  13. Download for free HERE. (From Kimberly's own site.)
  14. I know a guy that can play both guitar parts simultaneously.
  15. I don't think there's any such thing as an "obscure" Beatles song. But, if you mean by non-singles song, or "deep album cut", I suppose that I can second "Hey Bulldong". And also put in a vote for: "I Will"
  16. Oh yeah... Perry Como - "Catch a Falling Star" Love that song. And it is pretty much the epitome of uncool.
  17. Cesaria Evora - Sao Vincente The Soft Boys - Underwater Moonlight Green - The Planets Barry Adamson - As Above, So Below Paul McCartney & Wings - Band on the Run

    Big Star

I don't know if they would be number 2, but Thin LIzzy would (should) certainly qualify for Top-10, at the bare minimum.
  19. Heard the rumour on another forum and wanted to see if anyone else heard anything.
  20. Billy Squier! "Everybody Wants You" may be the most-perfect rock riff that's not Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. But he has a lot of other songs that are pretty damn good, too.
  21. "Nervous on the Road" - Brinsley Schwarz
