That's pretty good stuff, right there.

Just arrived and now playing: Los Lobos - La Pistola y El Corazón It is hard for me to express how much I love this album.

Is The Independent the paper that runs Martin Newell's funny little poems every week?

If we're pushing it, like some of the above: "Shotgun Willie" by Willie Nelson on the album Shotgun Willie It's stretching the rules a bit, but if the above qualify, then so does this.

Willie Nelson - Shotgun Willie The Jam - Direction, Reaction, Creation (disc 3) James - Laid Songs: Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co. The Sea and Cake - Car Alarm

Still think he hid behind a wall of feedback?

Still waiting for it to grow on me a bit. A little disappointing so far, but I am going to show some faith in Jarvis' talents and give it a few more listens. I am a fan of the man, in general. (And of Albini, as a producer/recording engineer.)

Taking another risk that you may have heard this classic... To scratch your MMJ psychedelic itch: The 13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds of The 13th Floor Elevators -
I also won tix to see Ringo a few years ago! And yeah, it was a really fun show. (He had Billy Squier, Rod Argent, and Edgar Winter in his band at the time.) Glad that I went then. Maybe I'll go this time.
-
I was thinking about that. Wife is a Deadhead and I may just give her the tix and stay home with the kids while she goes with a friend.

I like him okay and all, but I'm not a HUGE fan, or anything. The guy is a really good pianist. And he has some pretty good songs. So, tell me... is he worth going to see for someone like me? Getting a babysitter and all that? And yeah, I DO seem to win a lot of stuff like this. It's kinda cool.

Last night, I caught the first 15 minutes of THIS on PBS: Leonard Cohen - Live in London

YES! I actually owned On Avery Island first... before they released Aeroplane, and had to grow into the second one, because Ioved the first one so much. Now I like Aeroplane better, but the first album is still outstanding. If you love their sound, you'll love both albums. -

I'll assume that you're already heard Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea? A stone-cold classic that should fall smack-dab into the middle of your tastes, as defined by the bands, above. If not, remedy that NOW! Let's see... The Format - Dog Problems A perfect pop record with one impeccable pop song after the next. All are bittersweet, though, so the cavities shouldn't be that deep. And, my standard recommendation: Joe Pisapia - Daydreams The sometime member of Guster released the best album of the '00s. And this is it. Another one... Pugwash - Earworm A few pedal steel gu -
I remember a few of these from my time in college and just out. Anyone from Chicago or St. Louis remember: The Unconscious - A St. Louis funk/punk band that played just about every other week at The Blue Note in Columbia, MO when I was at Mizzou. They were a ton of fun. But when I found their old tape recently, it really didn't hold up. Plaid Retina - A Champaign, IL prog/punk band that I saw once in a basement in Carbondale, IL. Great musicians, but they didn't make as much of a splash as the Touch & Go bands from Chicago. A victim of geography, I think. The Flavor Channel - A band

Martin Newell - A Summer Tamarind Pugwash - Almanac Wire - Send Bad Brains - The Youth Are Getting Restless

I must've caught them on a good night. They were great when I saw them.

Two more today: Los Lobos - La Pistola y El Corazon ($0.85 and well-worth it!) Sugar - File Under Easy Listening (For $0.01, I suppose it's about time that I picked this one up!)

I was never really a fan, but I have to agree with the above statement. Regardless of personal taste, this is a sad, sad loss. R.I.P. Mary.
