Whats the best birthday gift you ever gave a relative?
PopTodd replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
My sister and I gave my parents $50 gift certificates for Charlie Trotter's for every occasion for about a year and a half. At that point they had enough accumulated to actually go and have dinner there on us. They had never had a dining experience like that before, so I thought that it would be fun for them. They loved it. -

I ain't sayin' that these other players aren't amazing. I'm just sayin' that Tina is my favorite; for the reasons stated at the beginning of the thread. Also... I'm surprised that it took so long to mention this man:

No. and No. Jeff may have always been the driving force behind Wilco, but I would argue that Jay was instrumental in the turns that they took on both Being There and Summerteeth. Don't know Jeff, but I would imagine that he would probably admit as much, as well. And Ringo is freaking RINGO!!!! The Beatles would not have been The Beatles without him. He may not have the chops of Neal Peart, but I would argue that he was one of the most imaginative drummers in rock history. Period. Brilliant.

Donna who screeched all over those mid-period Grateful Dead songs. Oh, and... FAIL!!! Garth was essential to their sound.

I voted CD: in-store. But, honestly, I PREFER vinyl; I just don't have the equipment to play it anymore. Someday soon, however, I will. Still, ya gotta be able to flip through the stacks. It's a visceral thing.

I do not. I'll have to check it out.

We'll agree to disagree.

See, those guys are all virtuosos, and I like them all (some more than others). But none of them can really groove like Tina does.

Listen to "The Good Thing".

My favorite bass player, ever. Although, Larry Graham (Sly & the Family Stone) and James Jamerson (Motown studio guy) are pretty damn close, too. Tina just has a way of combining the groove of Motown with the melodicism of Paul McCartney. I don't think I've heard anybody else do it quite as good as her. Favorite Tina moment: "The Good Thing" In particular, at the end, with the little ascending thing that she does. Let's show some appresh for a woman who is not only one of the best female bass players, but one of THE best bass players, period!!! I loves me some Tina.

Now, that's just uncalled for.

Someone at another board turned me on to this a couple of years ago and every time that I listen to this album, I hear something new. Stylistically, it's all over the place, which is something that I really appreciate. The songwriting is more than solid. And the production never sounds dated. Anyone familiar with this band/record? AllMusic didn't exactly rave about it, but I am loving it. Amazon has it for just A PENNY!

Sorry. I'm married. Can't take any more beaver.

Not looking to sell... just trade for something. Sorry. I guess that wasn't made clear.

Tried that and got NO action. Hence, the move here.

No apologies necessary. I got a good chuckle from that, actually.

Guess that I can't win.

It's unopened (although the shrink wrap has been partially torn). Brand-spankin' new. PM me if you want to offer me something good for it.
