I was in a fraternity in college; well, for my first 3 years, at least. Anyway, there were some pretty good parties there. We had The Samples play at one and they were pretty good. Lots of basketball players showed up and stuff, including Anthony Peeler, who turned out to be a pretty solid pro for the last 15 years or so. But, yeah, good times that I can barely remember. Oh, and also... my wedding was still the party of the century for most of my friends and family. It was small (about 65 or so), in the backyard at my in-laws' summer home near Traverse City. (They have an acre on Elk Lake.)

Guided By Voices - Sunfish Holy Breakfast/The Grand Hour (EPs) My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything Sly & The Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On Shrimp Boat - Something Grand (disc 3) Willie Nelson - To Lefty, From Willie

I'm listening to a couple of these todays, and got to thinking. So, what are your rankings (if you have any?) 1. Tigerbomb 2. Sunfish Holy Breakfast 3. The Grand Hour And, sadly, those are the only ones that I own or really know. And, is there a CD version of Tigerbomb out there? All I've seen is the 7" vinyl and I can't play my vinyl anymore.

iTunes shuffle. My last 5 tunes: Super Furry Animals - Sidewalk Serfer Girl Doris - You Never Come Close Prince - Motherless Child (live/acoustic/solo) Grinderman - Electric Alice Happy Ashtray - More and More
-
No, as I have not heard it yet. It's still the Happy Ashtray record that I mentioned earlier in the thread. But if that Beto Villares record pans out as cool as it sounds like it could... you never know.
-
So glad to see somebody else taking notice. That record is so astonishingly good.
-
No problem. Sometimes it's kinda fun to play the part of the nitpicking a-hole.

Rush had a different drummer on their first album. But I suppose most folks would still count Peart as the only "real" Rush drummer. Still, if you want to get into technicalities...

Nick Cave - Get Ready For Love Best album opener since the Stones did "Rocks Off" back in '72

Here is a stream of the segment that I heard on NPR last night: http://www.utexas.edu/coc/kut/latinousa/st...usa_podcast.mp3

After listening to the samples online, and hearing a few on NPR last night, it may turn out to be this one when all is said and done: Beto Villares - Beto Villares Now I just have to buy it and find out for sure.

Yo La Tengo - Summer Sun Richard & Linda Thompson - Shoot Out the Lights Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit Liz Phair - Exile In Guyville

Aside form my own? Joe Pisapia Happy Ashtray TV On the Radio

What do you know about this record? I heard him interviewed on NPR last night and the clips that were played off of this record sounded really, really good. I know this: He is/was known better as a record producer than an artist, himself. This is his debut album as an artist Did a lot of commercial and soundtrack work. This record sounds freaking cool. Hop On Pop - MIXTAPE (rough mixes)
-
Happy Ashray - Weathervane Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production Of Eggs Sundial - Acid Yantra Caf

I got rid of this record when I was really getting into the underground stuff in college and purging my collection of everything mainstream. That was a mistake. The band may be a parody of themselves now, but: That is some SERIOUS rock n' roll right there.
-
He's gonna play live on the air today at WXRT sometime between now and 12 noon. There's a live stream over there somewhere.
-
Martin Newell (The Cleaners From Venus) - Songs For... a Fallow Land Velvet Crush - Teenage Symphonies to God (and a couple of mixes)
-
Yep. Is SRC the name that the band went by, or just an obscure acronym for a better-known band? EDIT: Nevermind, I found the AllMusic review here.

But yeah every time I go into a record store, I think about picking one of the ones up that are on that list, and usually wind up not, because of the above. But I'm sure that I will at some point.
