I only just started listening to Harry Nilsson about a year ago. Maybe it was the 70's thing that kept me away and that whole connotation. I don't really know. But the more that I heard about Nilsson, the more that I wanted I wanted to hear him, until I finally gave in and bought Nilsson Schmilsson. Oh lord, what an album! If you're a fan, I don't have to tell you, but I felt like I was listening to a kindred musical spirit (only with about 2.5 octaves greater vocal range than I have). Then I got Son Of Schmilsson and realized that the first purchase was no fluke. I have this box set on its wa

It's up now, and streaming at the above link. (Starts at about 16:30.) A great quote from the interview: "Many things in life are disappointing; Bob Dylan is not one of them."

And he was hospitalized to have his stomach pumped of all that semen back in the late 70's.

Ah... I was confusing Last Exit with Naked City, which is probably even MORE challenging/abrasive than Last Exit. Oh, and I have another recommendation: Barry Adamson - Oedipus Schmoedipus Former bass player with Magazine and Nick Cave collaborator. This record really knocks me out... it's like a film soundtrack without a film. Some of the darkest, scariest music I've ever heard on there. And it's still a lot of fun. Apparently his new ('08) album, Back To the Cat is every bit as good, if not better (according to AllMusic). Also: The Ken Vandermark 5 has a similar sound to Naked City and

The more-modern stuff isn't necessarily my thing, jazz-wise. But, I guess there are a couple of artists that I've been digging: John Coltrane - A Love Supereme I guess that's post-bop. And it's a classic, so maybe you didn't need to know that one. Or maybe you REALLY did. Last Exit - Last Exit If you like the really noisy stuff. John Zorn making a major ruckus. Masada Another John Zorn project that is a lot more melodic. Incorporates, as you might have guessed, a lot of middle eastern themes and elements. Just beautiful stuff. Sonny Sharrock - Guitar Noisy guitar stuff (obviously). But t

I was just able to catch about 5 minutes of what sounded like a really great interview with Jim Dickinson: musician (pianist who played on The Stones' "Wild Horses") and producer (Replacements' "Pleased To Meet Me"; Big Star's "3rd"; and a kabillion more). I wanted to provide y'all with a link to the podcast but have been unsuccessful. I don't think that it's up online quite yet, but it should be here at ome point: http://www.pri.org/bob-edwards-weekend.html If anyone else can find it, I'm sure that it would be appreciated by everyone here. The guy is a giant whose name is known by far t

It was good, thanks. Not a bad crowd for a Thurs. (50 or so), and I just had a good time, which is really what it's all about. -
It looks like the Faces, Rod Stewart and all, will be reuniting and touring next year. Wow. link Could be great. Could be awful. I am curious to see, either way. At any rate, they should do with Ronnie what Monty Python did with Graham Chapman, and tour with his ashes!

I like the Bonzo Dog Band. And it's a funny picture of Viv.

I love beer. I really do. How about you? What are your favorites? Of course... St. Bernardus Abt 12 Bell's Oberon is a perfect summer brew And Bell's Amber Ale is pretty hot, too! But the one that I miss the most: Just a perfect Scottish ale. Can't find it anywhere anymore, I think that Grant's went under. But if you've seen it anywhere, PLEASE let me know where and how to get it!

I maintain that Ann Magnuson's song and dance routine to "Let's Do It" was pure genius. OOH!!! Here's a YouTube clip of it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC_8HZ9ICl8

Thanks all. I hope to see somebody from VC there tonight; hopefully several (although it doesn't look likely). Anyway... thanks for tolerating yet another self-promo thread from me! -
Tell me more about that Wreckless Eric/Amy Rigby record. Please. I'm thinking that I'm gonna need to make that a part of my collection sometime real soon.

Kermit and the Mystery Box Reminds me of classic Abbott & Costello.

Listening again and I'm surprised that none of you have picked up on this yet. Please folks, I urge you to pick this up! Especially for a group of Wilco fans... this is a perfect record.
