  1. Thanks for the props, Norbs. And thanks for listening. Most of the ads are music-related, and so tend to blend in to the site pretty well; but they should attract the attention of the music-focused people who frequent the place. Artists also sell mp3s through the site and, for a "Prime" membership pay a yearly fee (although it's pretty nominal). There is (or was) also a tie-in with Cashbox Magazine. But yeah, that player is compressed pretty well and plays LOUD. And Bunk: thanks for the bump.
  2. I got mine for $14 or whatever. Got lucky, I guess because I won't buy the mega-pricey imports, either.
  3. Glad you're digging it. I just purchased this one, and it arrived in the mail today: Giving it a first listen now, and I'll let y'all know how it stacks up to Sounds... after I digest it.
  4. Daniel Johnston - Songs Of Pain: Early Recordings, Vol. 1 Al Green - Greatest Hits Shrimp Boat - Speckly Brinsley Schwarz - Cruel To Be Kind
  5. You see, the site that I have songs posted at, has started a Pay-For Play program that I have bought into. They pay me for each unique play that each song receives each day. That is, I get paid every time somebody listens to my songs. So, if you are at your computer and get a hankering to hear some of my music (not too likely with many of you, I know), if you could do me a favor and go to: WWW.IACMUSIC.COM/HOPONPOP and give a listen over there instead of on your iTunes or whatever, I would appreciate it. It'll help me get some small amount of financing for my record. Thank you for
  6. I was gonna guess that was Madness, but I see now that it's The Specials. Knew that it had to be some 80's ska band.
  7. Dating my wife at the time: From Chicago to the Cumberland Gap. Had nothing to do with the scenery or any of that; just the company. It was probably the trip that led to our getting married.
  8. Maybe the Whitney version. But if you ever heard the original (Dolly) version, you would know just how great that song really is. Suckiest song? I pretty much agree with whoever said "We Built This City". Although "Killroy Was Here" by Styx is right up there, too.
  9. Harry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson Ashtray Boy - The Honeymoon Suite Guided By Voices - Alien Lanes Plush - Fed Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson - Rattlin' Bones Tom Z
  10. Another year, another brilliant record. Here's the (4-star) AllMusic review: I suggest a listen.
  11. 10,000 Homo DJs Front 242 Don't really know either of them enough to make a decision.
  12. Drivin n' Cryin'/Kevn Kinney I saw them opening for Living Colour when I was in college and they were pretty great. Only recently, I started listening to Kevn Kinney's first solo album again and was really digging it. So I went back to the DnC stuff and was not as impressed with it as I was back in the day. Still, the Kinney stuff alone is worth mentioning ... good stuff.
  13. Prolly a tie between Ragged Glory and Harvest Moon
  14. How could I have forgotten that Nilsson song? That's one of my all-time favorites! Oh, and for the record: Tonio K. - "H.A.T.R.E.D." Now I know it's not unusual There's nothin' so unique There's probably hundreds of wonderful love affairs That go bad in this town every week (It's a big town) But all of them others Them sad-hearted lovers Could cry in their beer what the hey It didn't concern me Was none of my business I never had nothin' to say But suddenly darlin' The table has turned You have left me for somebody new And now it's hard To express the resentment I feel For
  15. A new addition to my Top 5: So, so good.
  16. Hoodoo Gurus - Mars Needs Guitars Hoodoo Gurus - Magnum Cum Louder Rodriguez - Cold Fact John Cale - Vintage Violence Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It
  17. Just about anything by Tonio K. Particularly: "H.A.T.R.E.D." "Why Can't I See You In My Mirror?" Also Sixto Rodriguez - "Only Good For Conversation"
  18. A friend of mine just brought this in for me to hear. Hard to believe that it's an '08 release... it sounds straight out of 60's Motown... Smokey Robinson style. Seriously retro and seriously great. Almost too retro for its own good, if the songs weren't so damn good. (Think Amy Winehouse or James Hunter.) Just made my list of things to buy. Soon! And it might become one of those albums that you're kicking yourself for not hearing before the year ended. It certainly will make my Top 5 of the year.
  19. I would love to come and see you this week. I doubt that I'll be able to make it, but maybe we could play together sometime? I do the solo/acoustic thing, too. Do you have a link to your music anywhere (that's not MySpace, which is blocked for me)?
  20. Okay. So, I just picked that up. I'll update when it arrives in the mail. And, it does NOT have "Ju Ju Man" on it (damnit).
  21. Wow. Good question. There've been a few. Most recently, probably: Def Leppard. Not only their old catalog (at least through Pyromania), but they also released a killer record in '06 of all covers that prompted the rediscovery. They ain't nothin' brilliant, just a great straight-up rock band. At least when they want to be.
  22. The Best of Arlo Guthrie got a spin recently. So great.
