not very vegetarian friendly.
These are all restauranteurs and foodies who are focused on ingredients, technique, and flavor combinations, not veg-friendly lifestyles. But yeah, you are right. It would be nice if they had an award specifically for vegetarian chefs. Althought I don't know if there are enough of them out there (particularly in fine dining, where this is focused) to merit such distinction.
Looks like you'd just have to keep slugging back the wine, champagne, and cocktails.
poptodd lives a charmed life. And yeah, between this, the concert tickets, my MS, and the brain surgery...

My friend Josh was honored as the "Rising Star" sommelier and invited me to be there, as his guest. Very posh and a lot of fun! T'was a cocktail party-like reception, with each of the honoured chefs set up at a different station, offering 2 small plates each. Here are those offerings:

Roky Erickson - Demon Angel: A Day & Night With Roky Erickson

Dave Daviesplease, do NOT ask me to add Dave Davies to the poll.
-
I'm just thinking that Davies is (of course, since I started this thing), pound-for-pound, the best pure songwriter of the bunch.
•Waterloo Sunset
•Two Sisters
•Sunny Afternoon
•Oklahoma, USA
•Picture Book
and, yes
•Lola
and
•You Really Got Me
And dozens more are so freaking amazing that they bring me to tears, as much for the quality of the craft as for the emotional content of the song.

George Harrison.
I'll add a choice for you, as long as it's still Beatles/Kinks.
But please, do NOT ask me to add Dave Davies to the poll.
-
Now, please keep in mind that this poll is asking about PURE SONGWRITING.
Not innovative production methods.
Not influence on popular culture.
PURE SONGWRITING.
JUST THE SONG, ALONE, BY ITSELF
(I think that this is a more interesting choice and one that is a bit more fair to all parties involved.)

Pat DiNizio - Songs & Sounds
Steve Earle & The Del McCoury Band - The Mountain
The Strawberry Smell - Odorama
Blue Ruin - Flame

Seriously.
I saw him on that tour, in Chicago, and some folks walked the pig around the stadium, and then outside the pavilion. And I saw it fly away. I thought that was planned. Was that NOT planned? Did I witness The Pig Flying the Coop?
Cool.

Hop on Pop - I like ELO too, but you don't see me forming a tribute band.
You really like me?!?!
EDIT: And, really, I'm more of a Move guy than ELO, but you're in the ballpark.

Not sure if it looks good cheesy or bad cheezy, but it is certainly cheesy/cheezy.
Especially with the 70's-like funk soundtrack.

Son Volt
- Remember that time Trace was better than AM and we all thought you were the future? Then Wilco kicked your ass for the next decade? You must really hate that.
ouch.
Still, Wilco has never recorded a song as good or as timeless as "Windfall" or "Tear-Stained Eye"
(nor has Son Volt, post-Trace)
(EDIT: And, of course I say this with a ton of love for Wilco.)

As I tried to tell you once before - you are just digging a hole for yourself by posting this stuff over and over again. Most people are not going to take this stuff seriously - due to your constant self promotion.
But - at the end of the day, there is no rule about how many threads a person may start here - so I guess you have that going for you. You'll notice that I am not making fun of you, or jumping on you - but rather trying to get you to see what the deal is.
I see. And thanks.
And, I seriously do forget whether or not I have posted these things before.
My memory is for shit and I did do a search for this particular topic before posting this.
So, apologies to everyone here for, what appears to be a bombardment of posts about my music and my band. I do hope that I contribute enough in the way of other posts about other bands that won't ostracize me from the community.
Mods: feel free to delete this thread.

It took a VERY long time for Loveless to hit me, too. All I can say is, if you generally like that type of thing, keep listening. Spin it again every now and then. There are a lot of layers to sort through, but once you start to hear the little bits and pieces, you start hearing more bits and pieces and then you start to hear more untill finally you hear it all.
And when you do, it's a revelation.
I speak from experience.
So, if you feel like it, just keep listening. It will be very rewarding in the end. Or, if you feel like you've listened to it way too much already, give your copy to a friend who might appreciate it.

Guided By Voices:
EDIT YOURSELVES!!!
-
And then you'll post it again!
What you are implying, good sir, is that I intentionally bombard you with the same message over and over, when that is, in fact NOT the case.
You see...
I had brain surgery.
What is your excuse?

why not put it on youtube and then post a link?
i bet i would click on that, but be too lazy to send you a pm.
also i would be unlazy enough to post and say that.
I had it on YouTube, but the station made them take it down. So, I'm distributing it to friends for private performance.
And, sorry rareair.
I guess you could just post here that you want to see it, and I can send YOU a PM.
At any rate, thanks to y'all who have shown interest.
And now, I hope that in several months, when I get the bug up my butt to share this again, I will remember that I posted this -- twice.
