  1. Son Volt

    - Remember that time Trace was better than AM and we all thought you were the future? Then Wilco kicked your ass for the next decade? You must really hate that.

    ouch.

Still, Wilco has never recorded a song as good or as timeless as "Windfall" or "Tear-Stained Eye"

    (nor has Son Volt, post-Trace)

(EDIT: And, of course I say this with a ton of love for Wilco.)

  2. As I tried to tell you once before - you are just digging a hole for yourself by posting this stuff over and over again. Most people are not going to take this stuff seriously - due to your constant self promotion.

But - at the end of the day, there is no rule about how many threads a person may start here - so I guess you have that going for you. You'll notice that I am not making fun of you, or jumping on you - but rather trying to get you to see what the deal is.

    I see. And thanks.

And, I seriously do forget whether or not I have posted these things before.

My memory is for shit and I did do a search for this particular topic before posting this.

So, apologies to everyone here for, what appears to be a bombardment of posts about my music and my band. I do hope that I contribute enough in the way of other posts about other bands that won't ostracize me from the community.

Mods: feel free to delete this thread.

  3. It took a VERY long time for Loveless to hit me, too. All I can say is, if you generally like that type of thing, keep listening. Spin it again every now and then. There are a lot of layers to sort through, but once you start to hear the little bits and pieces, you start hearing more bits and pieces and then you start to hear more untill finally you hear it all.

And when you do, it's a revelation.

    I speak from experience.

So, if you feel like it, just keep listening. It will be very rewarding in the end. Or, if you feel like you've listened to it way too much already, give your copy to a friend who might appreciate it.

  4. why not put it on youtube and then post a link?

i bet i would click on that, but be too lazy to send you a pm.

also i would be unlazy enough to post and say that.

I had it on YouTube, but the station made them take it down. So, I'm distributing it to friends for private performance.

    And, sorry rareair.

I guess you could just post here that you want to see it, and I can send YOU a PM.

At any rate, thanks to y'all who have shown interest.

And now, I hope that in several months, when I get the bug up my butt to share this again, I will remember that I posted this -- twice.

  5. Did I post this before?

But I played live on TV with my band back in '05. PM me for the link.

Sorry if I already posted this, but I forget things. And nothing came up on a search.

Yeah, it's a download. Let me know if you like it or hate it or whatever.

I hope you like it, though.

  6. Yeah, this one is gonna be a tough one. Unless you hate Dylan (which I know may be a few of you), how do you choose from among his 1960's and early 70's output?

It's pretty close for me, between Freewheeling, Blood On the Tracks, and Nashville Skyline, but in the end...

    Nashville Skyline

wins out, just for the sheer fun of it. As brilliant as all those albums are, my choice is the only one that really makes me smile outright.

  7. I listened and I dug it.

Can't really comment on any specifics until I give it a few more spins, but I wanted you to know that there is at least one more person on here who checked it out. And appreciated it.

    Jane's Addiction - Kettle Whistle

Richard & Linda Thompson - I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight

    Merry-Go Round - Listen, Listen

    and,

A mix from my friend Al (w/ Mark Lemon, Linus of Hollywood, Bevis Frond, Aimee Mann, Manfred Mann, P.F. Sloan, "And More!)

  9. Yea, im not thrilled about the Aragon either. But I guess when you're talking about ear-splitting, feedback drenched music, does sound quality really even matter?

    I think yes.

Moreso than lots of stuff. Think about the band. Despite the bombast, there are a lot of subtleties to the songs -- a lot of nuance.

But with the hellacious acoustics in that cavernous space, you most-likely won;t even know what freaking song they're playing at all!

    DAMN! I love that record.

Gotta pick up the reissue sometime soon.

And hide it from the kids, who would probably love it and then run around singing "New York's Alright (If You Like Saxophones)" at school all day.
