Nope, hadn't heard of it - I checked and it's not available in our area. Have you looked into Verizon's FiOS? People seem to like it a lot. Seems like any alternative to cable/satellite would be worth investigating. I hate Comcast Check out this forum for info & opinions on U-verse: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/uverse

Consider "The Iron Giant" thirded - an awesome movie, and a nice change from computer animation. As for "now watching" -- on the final disc of season 4:

We just got an HD-DVD player over the holidays because our old DVD player was showing its age. We went with HD-DVD for many of the reasons stated above. By the time the format issue is decided, we'll likely be ready to replace this player anyway. Since we rent DVDs, it doesn't affect our "collection" other than the 10 free HD-DVDs we got with the player. The improvement in quality is definitely noticeable, we've done direct comparisons with non-HD and HD discs.

We have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe - good amp, but we're saving up for a Top Hat as they're hand made and sound fantastic. You might be able to pick one up used for $1K, but they run higher if new. You have to buy direct from the company (unless you can find a used one). Top Hat Amps

I use the cassette adapter for my car (Audi still includes a cassette player - the adapter I'm using is about 15 years old, but works). For home, I have 2 different adapters - a Kensington one that also charges the iPod when docked, and a bare bones adapter that doesn't charge (and was cheaper). Both work just fine with both my audio receiver and with a set of basic monitor speakers (same speakers I use for my Roland keyboard). I also have an old (more than 10 years) receiver that either works with - but I'm not sure what type of stereo set-up you have (component or all-in-one). Kensington

I liked "The Fountain" - but I didn't cry...

Shure earbuds are nice. I had a pair of Ec3 earbuds, but I lost them while traveling, which is why I now buy cheaper headphones/earbuds for traveling. -
I wouldn't say it goes the route of "What Dreams May Come" - but I can't say for sure, as I haven't seen that particular movie. It seemed like a really sappy movie, and I don't care for those types of movies. I wouldn't say "The Fountain" is sappy, but there is an underlying tragic love story. "The Fountain" is definitely no "Mulholland Drive" though. We mostly watched it because we had it on HD-DVD, and could directly compare it to the regular DVD version, which was on the same disc.

"The Wire" season 4 -- finally got disc 2, which was lost in the mail over the xmas holiday. Netflix sent out a new copy, and it arrived today, so we can resume watching. Watched Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain" last night. It has amazing visual imagery, but both "Pi" and "Requiem for a Dream" were much better films. Saw "The Hoax" the night before last. Enjoyable way to spend some time, but nothing I'd watch twice.

For travel with my iPod, I use the Sennheiser PX200 - they are fold up to fit in a small case and have noise canceling. I have used the Bose noise canceling headphones (courtesy of the airline I was flying at the time) and they are nice, but too pricey since I've been known to lose headphones while traveling. Sennheiser PX200 For use at home (ie, no chance of losing them), I prefer Grado headphones. Expensive, but worth it for the sound quality. Check out this mp3 player that's a good deal right now (thanks to a slickdeals post): MP3 Player for $10.62 1GB SD Memory Card

I wasn't disputing that Footsteps in the Dark came out first on CD - just that there's another option.

Actually, Cat Stevens "Gold" has both those tracks, as well as other great Cat Stevens songs. It's a 2 disc CD, and the inclusion of those songs is why I bought it. Harold & Maude is one of my top ten favorite films -- too hard to rank in order, but it's among good company in that list

If you aren't wed to the idea of an Apple product, you should consider another mp3 player for workouts. I have an iPod, but for running, I use one of several mp3 players that we got for almost-free after rebates. They are super light-weight (the weight of one AAA battery), tiny, and use a memory card for the music (not iTunes). What I like about them is that I don't have to worry about them at all - they were cheap, they do what I need them to do, they take a lot of abuse, and they aren't a theft target. The brands we have are Lexar and Creative, but do some searching on the web at SlickDeals.

Very much looking forward to There Will Be Blood - Daniel Day-Lewis is always fantastic, and he picks his roles with care. Plus, it's a Paul Thomas Anderson film. But, alas, I don't see movies in the theatre, so it'll be a wait. And for that reason (DVD viewing only), I can't really come up with a top list for 2007 since I haven't seen all of the films for the year

Great news. I love DCFC too, and agree that Transatlanticism is their best album to date, but I love Plans too. Looking forward to a new album, and hopefully a tour too, in 2008.

Saw Superbad this past weekend, and I thought it was great. I thought the drawings were hilarious!

Pete Krebs - Portland singer-songwriter who toured with Elliott Smith. "Western Electric" was produced by Elliott Smith, and that's how I discovered Krebs, a great find for those who like singer-songwriters. Can also find his albums under "Pete Krebs & the Gossamer Wings".

My husband's first guitar is a Japanese strat from the 80s. The paint is still in excellent condition, but he did replace a lot of worn plastic on it because the white plastic yellowed over the years. He ordered the pickguard from a guy who custom cuts them - sent in a template to make sure it would line up and fit. It's a nice guitar, we have nicer ones, but it has sentimental value for him as well

Thanks for the heads up, I enjoyed Torchwood, some eps were better than others, but overall a good watch. It just ended on BBC America, so very surprising that season 2 will start up so soon.

Maybe they should just switch to coffee

I won't take cold/allergy meds with pseudoephedrine in them because when I do, it feels like my heart is racing. Although I think it's silly that you have to get those products from a pharmacist now, and show ID to boot.

I started drinking coffee at 3 with breakfast, stopped at age 25 (but still drink tea, but only have caffeine early in the day) - I'm 5'8" and female, so above average height.
