  1. Saw the Hold Steady Friday night in Harrisburg. One of the most fun shows I've been to in a while. The venue was a local brewpub/restaurant that has a second bar and stage on the second floor. The capacity was around 380, so it was really tight, sweaty, and loud, like a good rock show should be. Two days later and my left ear is still ringing. The crowd was fantastic, rowdy but not rude. Everyone went apeshit at the start of Hornets! and never let up until the houselights came on. I haven't seen the band since Lolla 07, so it was great to be up close and personal with Criag Finn. He was havi
  2. Blink-182 in 2001 was the first concert I ever saw. I was 13. My music taste have certainly matured since then, but on a recent roadtrip I explored every corner of my iPod and still remembered every word of every song off Enema of the State.
  3. I've been listening to two songs by the Antlers ('Bear' and 'Two', both available for free download at last.fm) a ton. They're both going to be on the bands forthcoming album "Hospice", which is gona be released August 18th. This has become my most anticipated album of the year, I've played 'Bear' and 'Two' to death and still aren't sick of them. If the other 8 songs are in the same ballpark of great, I see it being a contender for my album of the year. But, up until this point, Veckatimest is my favorite album of 2009. Southern Point is the jam.

  5. This is good stuff. First impressions after a few spins: Bull Black Nova reminds me of 'Marquee Moon', and I really dig the lyrics. Maybe its because I've been watching Dexter recently, but I love Tweedy playing a part of a paranoid murderer on the run. The little guitar licks on 'I'll Fight' brings More Adventurous-era Rilo Kiley to mind, which is always good. I feel like Feist could be turned up a little bit on You and I, but seeing as this is a leak, I really can't make any judgements on audio quality. The only song I'm not big on is 'Everlasting Everything.' The "everlasting...
  6. An album that's already being tossed around as a modern classic is Grizzly Bear's Yellow House. I think it recently popped up in the upper half of Amazon's "Top 100 Indie Albums Ever" list. I cannot, for the life of me, get into this album. I love the opening track, "Easier", but after that it falls off for me. It just won't click. I'm going to see them this summer at Pitchfork, maybe that will change my mind. Or, maybe it's overrated and not that great to begin with. Or, maybe it is great and just not for me. *sigh*
  7. Agreed. When I saw Eddie Vedder this summer in DC the Burn to Shine crew was filming the show, Brendan Canty included. To kick off the second encore Eddie asked Brendan to move from the behind the camera to behind the drum kit, and the two ripped up All Along The Watchtower. My brain exploded.
  8. 9. It took me a few listens to get into it, but now I really like it. Do yourself a favor and listen to the album the whole way through. It won't be a waste of your time.
