  1. Didn't Jay Bennet co-write Jesus etc with Jeff?

In no particular order the top ten wilco songs are.

    Radio Cure

    Sunken Treasure

    Theologians

    Ashes Of American Flags

I am Trying to break your heart

    Via Chicago

    Say You Miss Me

    Hell Is Chrome

    California Stars

    Jesus etc

  2. Wait, Dave Bloomfield and Highway 65? What are we talking about here?

Nel's solo on Impossible Germany got the attention of festival goers who were not really that into Wilco at Pitchfork. He lit up the entire set as far as I was concerned.

    LouieB

Was it that late when I wrote that? I just considered not using this avatar for another 4 years.

I must've been thinking 65 as 1965 when the record was released. As for Dave well that's long day of work setting in.

  3. I hope no ones listening to that YouTube rip,

sounds like it was mixed on garage band.

    Incredible production yes.

Reminds me of the MBV record

    from a few years ago.

  4. Barring Glen Kotche he's the best thing to ever happen to Wilco as a live band. Album wise until Star Wars he's been apart of a extensive sweet period of Jeff Tweedys songwriting. Not that You Are My fave Side With The Seeds and Art Of Almost are sweet and not that most of Am to YHF isn't sweet melodies and cute lyrics. But you get the point.

His interpretations of the A Ghost Is Born material is up there with Mike Bloomfield on Highway 61 and Crazy Horse Neil Young. Basically everything just below Voodoo Child.

  5. After Sky Blue Sky and Born Again I thought Wilco now settled and with every tool would do a Sonic Youth and release SYR type records like goodbye 20th century. Release an acoustic record a Jeff Tweedy solo record etc.

Wilco (the album) was a beautiful pastoral pop country rock record a solid B+ for me. The Whole Love was where I saw them finally veer into festival rock and baring One Sunday Morning was not interested (tho I was impressed as was Wire magazine interestingly enough) Still another B record but a record is an open wound you need something new to let it find its place it won't sustain and grow on its own if it's very understandable in one sitting.

Yet it had three years to live breathe and be performed on stages around the world.

This is a major difference between music and other mediums like film and painting where one can jump from one thing to another and have it be that thing. In music particularly "rock" a latest record or album begins to define a band/performer as a singular thing until the next thing arrives which may come years later. While someone like Jim Orourke can make squiggly sounds for 5 years then release a singer songwriter record out of the blue as he doesn't use his music for his own personal income Wilco has to oil the machine and tour each record.

With this record I believe they have realized a new power and freedom, it's a record worth making and something that's worth seeing live

I also think this is s big FU to the shadow of the great Wilco record that their audience casts over them anticipating each release with shrugged shoulders. What can you say to this? Don't think it's as good as Via Chicago? Well it's a completely different thing. Very bold as clearly they could have done this anytime instead of the last three "song" records. I won't be surprised to see more releases soon to finally blow the cap off their perfect didcorgraphy which was ruined for some people by two less interrsting records.

In other words this is The Departed.

It's a solid A record, something worth revisiting.

Anyone think the title is only for promotion?

  6. "The game is changing. This country is not a dumb, white country. It is a smart, multi-ethnic country"

In my view its a dumb multi-ethnic country that has been duped and is insanely polarised. Now let me be nice about this most people in the world are good people when they can be, america is no diffrent, it is full of good hearted people who love there family and friends, now human nature is not that pretty but like I said I am being nice.

Now let me be honest when it comes to Politics America has been raped and pillaged over the last centruy there could not be a more ignorant and easily divided bunch in the western world, this is seriously alarming to me. Observing this election was insanity , two men with no ideas spreading hate and lies while there zombie-like followers ate it up spending a billion dollars each ( I wonder what they promised to those secret money men no one cares to think about) leaving the independents to choose the lesser of two evils . So they chose the guy who made them feel good about the future four years ago, who infact turned out to be a hated arogant domestic leader and a foreign warhawk, they chose him over the creepy mormon who told 47% of the country to fuck off, yeah that was a hard one to call.

Considering all the video evidence out there showing without a doubt that Mitch Romney is a phoney a liar and crook, that he will say anything to get people to like him, I beilieve it is good that he lost. It is good for our collective unconcious that we did not slip into further insanity. But remeber that the only reason that mass of footage does not exist with Obama is because of the fact that he was only a state senator for a single year, its because he was pushed right through into the white house as a blank canvas for the masses to project anything they wanted unto him , hope they screamed change! they screamed, that actaully happend, fucking bizzare man , strange days. Since then he's become a real politician he's seen the light he knows who's boss.

Bush was the preisdent people felt they could have a beer with, who didn't drink and is infact an elitist brat. Obama is the president who people feel they could smoke a joint with talk about you know life , except he wouldn't like you, he would never understand you and he thinks he's better than you. He only participates in all this nonesense to climb the social ladder and feed his ego he dosent care , he's not special.

..... but that picture of him hugging his wife still adorable

  7. Romney is the Dukakis of Republican candidates he was never going to win , any decent Republican candidate would have beat President Obama considering unemployment . Congradulations To Obama he beat a crazy old man and creepy mormon who told 47% of the country to fuck off. People don't rememebr the losers Obama will go down as a legend regardless more so than Clinton I think.

  8. Wilco are certainley in a neo Phase but so what? To consitently judge new work against that which has already been examined to the enthhh is pointless and creates a conceptual basket around the work that the artist did not intend to create, with Wilco the album maybe that was exactly the context intended (wink nugde camel). As a songwriter Jeff Tweedy has been mister positive for about six years now and I feel this is what long time fans bemoan rather than some supposed loss of form. They want to see him suffer through his songs because they are suffering they want to relate through pain not through joy because this is what is intresting to us the mass consumers of art. Sky Blue Sky is great I felt that the first spin , conceptualy and contextualy its a majior succeses and yeah the songs match the vission. Wilco the Album is one of Jeff Tweedy's best attempts at a fully realized work it flows it molds it breaks your heart and it wraps it all up for you nice and easy , great great great record, the problem is that the context is childish or rather it is simple and its hard to get past this to see the brilliant record beneath. The Whole Love is a Massive chunk of gooey folktronica ha ha .. its very much there second attempt at an expansive piece infact it very much mimics A Ghost Is Born . While it's not as compelling as AGB with its dramatic appeals towards pain love and glory in its individual pieces as a "whole" it presents a similar effect . It took me a while to realize this but its true if you want to listen to The Whole Love front to back its hugely succesful and will leave you shaken and I was not a fan of its excessive fluorishes and melodic candy at first second or tenth listen.

If there is a wish I'd present to Wilco it would be one thing attempt to capture you're live form with these players on record something they simple havent tried to do and the sole reason I was initialy dissapointed with the last Two records aside from Art Of Almost and Bull Black Nova nothing on those records do justice to Wilco in real time LIVE!

  9. oh, i know this. it's just i'm afraid it's going to have a completely different atmosphere/feel to it than your average jeff show. there's also no details as to how long he'll be playing. if i'm paying 85-150 dollars to see a 30 minute set i'm really not going to be the happiest person alive. it may sound dickish, but i'm a broke college kid. ideally, i shouldn't be spending that amount on anything, but due to the amount of love i have for jeff/wilco i'll jump at any opportunity to see him and i'm foreign to how he is with this type of show.

thats completley diffrent , yes, your inclination is probably right, im sure it wont be the intimate jeff tweedy expirence no banter that only fans would get etc probably not a long set if there are othher acts, and yea 80 dollars thats steep. Sorry for my brashness I thought your conflict was political and you see i just find that sort of thing absurd, though hillarius.

  10. i am really sitting on the fence about this and i don't know what to do. i'm so torn. i really wanna see jeff (mostly out of paranoia that there won't be the annual fundraiser show this year in chicago. anyone know anything about that?) but i don't want a bunch of political mumbo jumbo shoved down my throat.

In reality you paying 80 dollars or w.e isnt affecting much isnt shaping the world , if you feel real bad give ten dollars to a homless person before you walk in, you know do something thats real, rahm emanuel dosent need your money thats real, it makes no diffrence.

Maybe Jeff Tweedy knows his fans and thinks this is funny , being real though probably not.

  11. It's a Canadian thing.

They have to pretend like they don't like us, although, they secretly want to have our babies.

now thats a generalization boy , and besides Im from Toranta not Canada , you see.

besides Canada is as American as Mexico , dont you know, I love my continent, youus are the ones who think ur diffrent. The only diffrence between us is you all got a deep deep seeded culture of violence . Your violence is only undercut by your pastoral landscape . Canada has a deep unified culture just no one knows about it because its desimated by our pastoral and empty landscape.

You see if America was a piece of art you could call it Pastor'al Violoncee, while Canada is Pastor'al Hockey

  12. That's how many Americans pronounce it?

Yea sort of but I dont mean to be insulting its just a cliche for certain red states as ya'll call them, and them red states that are alwas uh red aint gonna uh change by uh the next uh election . poor Barry I really had uh hope for him.

I much prefer to insult POTUS Obama's phoney and real accents , he does that serious hopeful tone in speechs, check 1236 " that world has changed"httyoutube.com/watch?v=kl2g40GoRxg. or the classic Uhh Uhhh , this is usually the boring stuff

  13. If Rahm were a real sport he would just go ahead with this as a regular show and can the political stuff. I mean why ruin a perfectly good reason for a Wilco/Jeff show?

Or is it now a benefit for his lawyers....oy vey!!!

    LouieB

Jeff Tweedy two years ago strongly supported the current president Rahm Emanuel was part of that presidency for 2 years , and an integral part I might add. Whats the suprise? whats the outrage? whats the moral or character diffrence between Obama and Emanuel? Seems about right to me, seems to make sense.

Jeff Tweedy is proably living out one of his Dylan fantasies, this situation is very similar to Dylans christian period when he met and anounced he was freinds with Jimmy Carter, and like Carter Obama will be out of office soon to b replaced by a real amurican.

  14. dBpm... decibels per minute. It says "loud!" It a friggin ROCK label name! I think I like it.

dBpm was the working titile for A Ghost Is Born, John Stirrat even painted a cover for it, you can find it in The Wilco Book.

Seing as how A Ghost Is Born is Wilco's most art rock avant rock record or as i would refer to it their best record I am now slightly intrigued at the possible sound of the new record.Seems like Wilco may be upon a new age? a new evolution? The Nonesuch years pair down to this, YHF illi-NoisePoPAmericuna record AGISB aVANT rOCKamurika record SBS ROCKAMERICA record WTA PoPAMERICA record .

    m I write?

  15. Oh come on, there were more dives in there than that.

I do agree that he is becoming that rugged player. He out did himself getting to the net this playoff season and was taking it for the team.

He is MOST certainly targeted as much as Lindros.

EDIT: I looked for a bunch of videos today of him diving, and tried to find the best one. Maybe I am putting dives from other videos into the one I posted.

Russia Moves Against US In Kyrgyzstan, Thailand As World War III Nears

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers

Early reports circulating in the Kremlin today from the Foreign Military Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (GRU) are showing that Russian forces have successfully engineered government coups against the American “puppet states” of the United States, Kyrgyzstan [photo 2nd left] and Thailand [photo 3rd left].

To the dangerously chaotic situation now existing in Kyrgyzstan we can read as reported by London’s Times Online News Service who are reporting:

“More than 100 people were feared dead tonight after police fought street battles with protesters attempting to storm the presidential palace in the former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan.

The opposition claimed that the Government had been driven from power and President Bakiyev had fled the capital. That assessment was contradicted, however, by the US State Department, which said that the Kyrgyz government was still in control.”

To the equally dangerous situation in Thailand we can further read as reported by the LA Times News Services:

“After weeks of demonstrations that saw glitzy shopping malls blocked, blood splattered on the prime minister's residence and tourism dented, Thailand's leader on Wednesday declared a state of emergency in Bangkok, handing the army broad power to restore order.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva made the move after anti-government protesters broke into the parliament building, leading some lawmakers to make a rooftop escape aboard a Black Hawk helicopter as other parliamentarians scaled compound walls.”

Fueling Russian anger against the Untied States were this past weeks series of terrorist attacks against the Motherland masterminded by CIA-linked al Qaeda terrorist forces that included the catastrophic bombing of Moscow’s subway system leading to the loss of over 40 innocent lives and which President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin vowed to find and “destroy”.

Also angering Russia has been US President Obama and NATO’s refusal to stem the devastating Afghan heroin drug trade run by the CIA and which to date Victor Ivanov, head of Russia's federal drug control agency, has estimated has claimed over 30,000 Russian citizens lives.

[Note: Important to note about Afghanistan’s heroin drug trade was that by early 2001 the Taliban had totally eradicated its production thus depriving the CIA of tens-of-billions of dollars of drug income necessitating the 9/11 “charade” which then allowed the Americans to regain control and re-start this vital component of their vast illicit Global drug empire under the “protection” of US Military Forces.]

According to these reports, Russian Military Forces are attempting by these Great Game “shadow wars” in Kyrgyzstan and Thailand to deny the US and its NATO allies the use of critical airbases [Don Muang Royal Thai Air Force Base: Thailand and Ganci Air Base: Kyrgyzstan] needed for their, the Americans, attempt to seize control of the vast oil and gas deposits in Central Asia, and which both Russia and China have vowed not to allow them to accomplish.

[Note: For the reader to fully understand the enormity of these latest Great Game moves more research and information needs to be acquired than this one report, or any single report for that matter, can do. Suggested reading on this subject includes: “The Great Game”, “The Great Game: The Struggle for Empire in Central Asia” and “The New Great Game. Blood and Oil in Central Asia”.]

Important to note is that the United States and its NATO allies began this latest chapter of The Great Game with their devastating attack upon the former European Nation of Yugoslavia in the spring of 1999 under then US President William Clinton in order to secure for the West the vast Central Asian pipeline transit routes needed to terminate on the Adriatic Sea.

Since the West’s deliberate destruction and breakup of Yugoslavia only the Motherland has been able to counter their moves, that is until 8 weeks ago when the Chinese entered the fray, and as we can read as reported by the Diplomat News Service in their report titled China Enters the ‘Great Game’, and which, in part, says:

“When the leaders of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and China gathered in the desert of eastern Turkmenistan in December to inaugurate a new 1,800-kilometre natural gas pipeline running from Central Asia to China, it marked China’s dramatic entrance into a battle previously dominated by Russia and the West over access to the region’s natural resources. It also was a measure of Beijing’s increasingly confident foreign policy, and its growing ties to–and interest in–its neighbours of the former Soviet Union.

‘This project has not only commercial or economic value. It is also political,’ Turkmenistan’s president, Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, said at the time. ‘China, through its wise and farsighted policy, has become one of the key guarantors of global security.’

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, when the five ’stans’ of Central Asia became independent countries, China has for the most part taken a back seat to the United States and Russia in this strategic region. In the 1990s, the United States began trying to gain influence largely to secure access for US companies to the oil and gas reserves that were just starting to be discovered, while also, through various democratization and human rights efforts, trying to get the authoritarian governments to liberalize their political systems. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, the US focus turned to military cooperation as it set up air bases in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The region was a useful gateway into Afghanistan (which borders Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan) and was also thought to be susceptible to the same sort of radical Islamism that vexed Afghanistan.

Russia has viewed all of this as an unwelcome intrusion into its backyard, and a threat to its own interests. The Soviet-era oil and gas infrastructure oriented all the export routes for Central Asia’s petroleum resources through Russia, from which Russian state-owned companies profit handsomely. US democracy promotion campaigns look, from Moscow’s vantage point, to be stalking horses for the sort of anti-Russian ‘colour revolutions’ that took place in Georgia and Ukraine. And US military bases in Central Asia compromise Russia’s strategic depth in the region–Russia has its own large military base in Tajikistan and smaller facilities in Kyrgyzstan.

China, meanwhile, has carried out relatively quiet diplomacy in Central Asia, focused on narrow issues like delineating borders between it and the newly independent states, and in gaining cooperation on shutting down networks of dissident Uyghurs, a Turkic people closely related to Central Asians who were using the ’stans’ as rear bases for anti-Beijing activities.

For most of the past 20 years, China’s presence in Central Asia was innocuous enough to allow both the United States and Russia to believe that it benefited them. In US eyes, the primary goal was to loosen the grip that Russia had on these territories for centuries, and China would help in this. In addition, especially after September 11, the US welcomed China’s cooperation in fighting terrorism in Central Asia.

Russia, too, cooperated with China in Central Asia, especially in trying to thwart a US military presence there, in both of their backyards. They formed the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a regional security group originally billed as a ‘NATO of the East’ and including all of the ’stans’ except Turkmenistan, which in 2005 called for the United States to leave its military bases in Central Asia.”

Interesting to note in these reports is their asserting that Obama upon becoming aware of Russia’s planned assault in Kyrgyzstan and Thailand “begged” United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to go to Asia to try to prevent his, Obama’s, Asian allies collapse. UN leader Ban, however, upon his arrival in Kyrgyzstan 4 days ago sided with the Motherland and slammed the United States “puppet” leader President Kurmanbek Bakiyev by openly declaring to the Kyrgyz Parliament, “Quite frankly, ladies and gentlemen, recent events have been troubling, including the past few days. I repeat: all human rights must be protected, including free speech and freedom of the media.”

UN leader Ban today expressed his “shock” at the violence taking place in Kyrgyzstan, but by all accounts he was instrumental in furthering Russian and China’s interests against those of the United States and their allies.

Important to note about these “puppet” rulers of the US are that they all came to power in what are called the “colour revolutions” engineered by the CIA, and include Kyrgyzstan’s “Tulip Revolution”, Ukraine’s “Orange Revolution” and Georgia’s “Rose Revolution”. The “common thread” connecting Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Georgia are their all being major oil and gas pipeline conduits for Central Asia, only one of which, Georgia, is still controlled by the West, but after it’s disastrous 2008 war when it tried to invade Russia will, without a doubt, be the next “domino” in the Great Game to fall against the Western Powers.

Equally important to note is that while just about everyone in the World has full awareness of the potentially catastrophic import of these events, the same cannot be even close to being said about the American people, and who continue to live under one of the strictest propaganda regimes seen since the Axis Powers of World War II and rivaling that of the Soviet Communists of the Cold War.

And no where is this more evident than in the events occurring in the US war zones of Afghanistan and Iraq…where in Afghanistan, US Special Forces Troops after a killing spree targeting women and children tried to cover up their crime and were supported by their military leaders and lapdog press…that is except for one British reporter, Jerome Starkey, who refused to “toe the propaganda line” and exposed the truth; and in Iraq where US Forces savagely massacred 12 innocent civilians…which came to light only because the actual video of this atrocious attack was leaked, and not by the American propaganda media who would never report on it anyway.

So as our World today veers ever closer the abyss of Total Global War, the American people continue to live in denial of what their monstrous war leaders are doing in their name and the consequences they are going to ultimately suffer because of their deliberate ignorance, the cost they will all be paying much sooner than they can ever imagine.
