I have certainly curtailed my concert going over recent years, but in most of the Wilco shows I've been to, a good portion of the audience is extremely chatty. I can't understand people who are *fans* going and being more into their own inane chatter rather than listening.

So my thread was undeserving? Good thing I deleted it then.

I can see Everlasting being a great show closer (at least before the encores). I like the soulful feel of "Country" but part of it reminds me of "I Can't Tell You Why" by the Eagles.

I was one of the guilty parties of starting a separate thread. After 34 pages, I was getting lost in it all. I apologize for confounding things. I also apologize for getting too analytical. Certainly didn't intend to be pretentious.

What the *( are you looking for? Snuff films? Exploring, developing your craft -- pushing out your own boundaries -- that's being edgy. It's not saying outrageous things, or doing outrageous things. If you simply want outrageous, run naked through the shopping district, hire the guy behind the dumpster, develop an aneurysm, drink heavily, lose your job, knock yourself out! Majorly agree with this. And with YHF, I would wager Kotche had as much -- if not more to do with the positive development on that album, just based on what's on the tracks, and seeing the direction the band has taken since (including AGIB). Who knows how many headaches and obstacles Bennett created on YHF vs. any positive influence. He tried to control it by building up barriers, hiding or cryptically labeling tapes so no one could come in and do any work. The scene in IATTBYH wasn't some trumped up, spliced scene designed to make Bennett look lost and fumbling. The camera simply took it in.

Says who? Tonight's movie on Lifetime? The latest drunken rehab autobiography? It's simply bullshit. I have personally and seen many creative bursts come from an uncluttered life, from peaceful, contented people. What you say is blather. Nothing more.

The whole "tension" argument is pure fanzine pap. It's something so-called rock afficianodos babble about when they can't come up with honest criticism on what's actually on the grooves. It's spin, the "tortured soul" struggling for his/her music.
