I think he's speaking from the heart but sometimes the fingers get in the way of what you're trying to say. I think what's great about this argument is to listen to the different perspectives, and agree to disagree.

Band got a later start in Charleston because it complained about the PA being too loud in Jacksonville. They spent extra time trying to set levels. Someone told me last night that Bon Iver was not supposed to play at Cary which seemed odd.

Music is subjective; preferences are a result of experience. Albums that are popular are accessible either through a "push" or "pull" approach -- the music industry "pushes" people like Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus upon the world. People who don't venture beyond pop radio never move beyond that range of experience. Bands lik Wilco are pulled into public consciousness by word of mouth, people who actively seek to broaden their experience. From a technical standpoint, differences in the three albums: YHF -- band wrote developed and recorded songs, then deconstructed them and rebuilt them using Pro Tools, adding the sonic texture and "noise" AGIB -- band developed and constructed songs using Pro Tools, then broke down what they had created and figured out how to recreated organically. SBS -- band created the songs together organically and recorded them. Then gave them added lift through performing live.

It was a great show, but a notch below their performance in Jacksonville, particularly Nels. He seemed to be into the music but not as crazy as Jacksonville, where he was pogoing and pretty much a maniac by the end thrashing around -- John was not quite as energetic as he was in Charleston. Pat was his usual rock star self. Jeff talked more at Charleston than Jacksonville, though he seemed more laid back in Jax -- we talked to the soundman afterwards and he said the band had complained that the PA in Jacksonville was too loud. They set up way in the back on the right (facing the stage) -- you'll be able to see the small monitors for the horns' ear buds. I got to wander up front before the show, nozing around the stage setup. With Bon Iver set up in front of the Wilco stuff you couldn't squeeze a muffin between the gear.

John got his chance in the spotlight in Jacksonville and nailed it! The crowd roared.

Spiders (Kidsmoke) has been played at every show thus far in the tour. Shot in the Arm and Handshake Drugs too.

Wilcoworld.net's shop is showing a "tour" poster for all of the shows. IMHO, the poster sucks. Dunno about individual shows -- someone had a link for a poster for the Indy show.

My wife and I are heading in about 5 to Chas. Hopefully we can wander over. I'll either be wearing a Fender or Levon Helm Band ballcap. You won't be able to miss me. Really. If I could have scored the first tickets that showed up on Music Today back when the date was in Feb., would have been sitting behind you, enough to give you noogies during the show.

I appreciate your views of SBS. Tweedy admittedly takes great pains to select tracks from among the bands recorded work, painstakingly sets the order of those songs that make the album (Let's Not Get Carried Away, for instance, didn't). My point is this is the album that he chose to make -- true some decisions are forced due to circumstances -- but this is the album he chose to release -- and in interviews talked positively (said at one of the home concerts that he thought it was their best album). It was most assuredly a joke. If you are fans -- fanatical -- about this band, it is because who they are. And as artists, if they make something that they feel is worthy to put before their fans -- it is important and meaningful to them -- that is who they are. That is your band. You can like or not like particular songs, particular albums, but you can't deny who they are or who they have become.
