  1. Injuries to Youklis and Ellsberry and the inevitable letdown they always experience after a Yankee series. A couple of hits in the first few innings when the Sox had plenty of baserunners would have helped too.

  2. "Grown ups" weren't the new audience that YHF reached. They were already into Summerteeth, Being There and the MAs, no?

If anything, the new audience that YHF reached was the kids who listened to Radiohead and Pavement, and didn't really have a background in the Flying Burrito Brothers and CSNY. Said audience are Pitchfork readers.

I agree with you there.......I got into UT around the time they broke up and got into both SV and Wilco's first albums......Eventually I took to Jeff's singing more than Jay's and pretty much went with Wilco after Being There......YHF was a chore for me to get into until much later, actually after SBS and seeing them live.

  3. You're right; media presence in 1930-1940 was exactly the same as today. Pardon my error!

Did I say that? He was the first to use the media to get his message out and did a good job of it.......He was a master at it according to most historians......Anyway, back to the swine flu.......By the way the DVD's of the ACL shows were great......I didn't realize they were the uncut performances.....what a treat.....thanks again......

  4. How would he have fared in today's media-saturated climate? It's impossible to say, and in my opinion comparing the tact of someone from seventy years ago and someone from today is apples and oranges. Biden is clearly more likely to mouth off than FDR, but it's still pointless to say FDR was restrained in an age without microphones up everyone's nose.

FDR saw his fair share of microphones and is credited for the starting the weekly president's address to the nation........In my opinion the greatest president we have had........That's besides the point, I would take FDR's guile and tact over any of the current crop of politicians.......I don't think we need another fear monger in the White House, we just got rid of one of the all time greats......

This speech could be given today don't you think? I think he could handle it.......

  5. Wow, Biden's a dope.

This guy wasn't.....Why don't we have leaders like this anymore?.......

    President Franklin Roosevelt

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.

Here are the odds of dying in Mexico from the disease compared to other risks......
