  1. Well, sounds like we won't be dealing with the stress of presales for some of the venues anymore.
  2. I heard "One Wing" at my local grocery store Friday night (Food Lion in Hillsborough, NC). I heard it a year ago at the local Home Depot, too. Slightly off-topic: Sunday afternoon I heard Son Volt "Medicine Hat" at a Lowes Foods in Raleigh, NC.
  3. Yep, that U2 show (2nd night - Dec 11, 1987?) ranks as the best coliseum show I've ever seen. Springsteen in '85 is a close second. Re: Ticketron - yes, I remember them writing down how many tickets the first couple of customers wanted (along with verifying that we had the cash to cover the purchases). And after I finally befriended one of the guys, I got a few of the against-the-rules "advanced reservations" tickets, though not at the same place that I camped...and I still feel a tinsy bit guilty about it.
  4. I've been following the saga of the movie and/or mini-series, and I really hope it all comes to fruition. Some of the references to King's other works were transparent enough in The Dark Tower - especially since they were pointed out by the characters and author - but I didn't realize just how many were related. Dang. Looks like I've got a few more books on my summer/fall reading list.
  5. That does suck. I wish I could've seen them on that tour - I was 11, and War and Under a Blood Red Sky were in heavy rotation on my boombox. Stones '89: I camped one night for a different show, and people were talking about the Rolling Stones possibly coming to town. They said the announcement might come that morning, along with an on-sale date. So I stuck around the next day for a few hours, and sure enough, we heard the announcement on the radio. There were only a few of us, and I was 3rd in line. Within minutes of the announcement, the line snaked around the building. They didn't have roo
  6. Exactly! It was fair! Granted, there were still ways to work the system...I remember being near the front of the line and hearing the Ticketron machine cranking out tickets before the first person was let in. I later made friends with someone at a ticketing outlet and used it to my advantage - I'd show up a day or two in advance, give him my cash, then go back a day after the on-sale date to pick up my tickets. I felt guilty doing it, and only did it a few times, but absolutely loved the seats. (does that make me a schmuck?)
  7. Book VII is definitely far from my favorite. I kept thinking, "C'mon, get there already!" I still have a few pages remaining - The Coda. But Stephen King said that we shouldn't read the Coda...wtf?! But at least there's more to look forward to: The Wind Through the Keyhole ("call this one DT-4.5") to be released sometime in 2012
  8. I miss camping out for tickets. When U2 came to not-really-nearby Hampton VA in 1987, there was a limit of 2 tickets per person. TWO! My kind and generous neighbors camped out for tickets and gave me a pair; I was 14 and mom wouldn't let me camp (yet). As soon as I turned 16 I started camping out for my own tickets. Dad went to all the shows with me, so he was more than happy to write a sick-note for school (and my part-time jobs) for me. I made a lot of friends camping behind Visart News & Video in Chapel Hill. Ah, the good ole days...
  9. I'm less than 100 pages away from finishing Stephen King's Dark Tower series. It's been an exciting and emotional read, and ~4000 pages later I don't want it to end. If you're not familiar with the series (7 books), it's probably best described as a cross between The Lord of The Rings and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. And while it isn't horror, it does incorporate characters and places from King's other books (though I've never read any of his other works).
  10. Indeed. It looks like night #1 has only single-seats remaining. Thankfully we got good seats for both nights. And it's possible that we'll have an extra pair of lower level seats for Saturday night. If so, they'll get sold here for face value.
  11. Yup. Right there with you...
  12. Thanks for the tips! It looks like the Courtyard by Marriott might be walking distance, too.
  13. Got our tickets for Raleigh and Nashville night #2...hoping to find two tickets for Nashville night #1 later this week. Hotel room in Nashville is booked, but still need to figure out the flights. I don't expect anyone to post a password here, but has there been any word of a venue presale for the Ryman tomorrow?
  14. Yep. But we're all excited (and nervous), and as always, the board is a good place to vent. I decided to be generous and get enough tickets for a few friends. It might have cost me a few rows, but I'm happy to have gotten in for Raleigh.
  15. Indeed! Moderator edit: Because Wilco doesn't allow taping of their live shows, Via Chicago doesn't allow direct links to videos. Edit: Yes, I know this was posted on another thread, but I couldn't resist cross-posting it...
  16. Charles, you're the best in the business. We'll have to get Gabe to join us next year!
  17. Uhhhh....no. That describes the role of Nils Lofgren in the E Street Band, not Clarence.
  18. I've heard Scott Pelley and Kevin Spacey...I'll go by either one.
  19. We drove up from NC for the weekend (1500+ miles round-trip) and overall it was a fantastic weekend. It was great meeting so many VC folks for the first time. One of the highlights for me was hearing "Simple Twist of Fate"...I never thought I'd actually get to hear it live. There were a lot of things about this festival that were done the right way: the number of volunteers and security, parking, the variety of merch, food and beverage availability, etc. The music that we were able to see was great - the sound was well mixed and at a good volume. But, like any first-year festival, there ar
  20. Not yet, but I'm keeping an eye out for the two other [known] recordings. http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/43416-wilco-2010-03-27/ The Section 2 Row B seat 108 (or so) recording will probably be posted on bt.etree
  21. One of the audio sources was just started: http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/43416-wilco-2010-03-27/
  22. Absolutely ZERO complaints here. Sure, there are songs I wish I could've heard last night, but I don't think I've ever been to a show where I've heard absolutely every song I wanted to hear. As for artists with deep catalogs who like to mix things up, throw Springsteen into that group. Sure, you're bound to hear "Born To Run" every single night, but a large portion of his setlist changes from night to night. He even left blank spaces in the setlist for requests ("audibles") during the summer 2009 tour. http://brucespringsteen.net/live/2009setlists.html#20090502
  23. There were at least three tapers in Durham, and two of the sources will be uploaded sometime soon. (one to bt.etree, the other probably to DIME)
