Yea, but no more than what we already gathered. That being said, this seems official. Sad day. It's a real shame that him and Wilco were at about as bad of a place as they could have been.
-
Oh no...
-
This thread was started before the Jay thread. And it's a pretty decent question.
-
Complications from surgery?
-
I think, if Jay was off of that label, them posting that picture is even stranger, unless this is all true.
-
I hate to say this, and I mean no offense, but, if true, this must be an odd situation for Jeff. Obviously it's a sad story, but that lawsuit is still out there...
-
If official word gets out soon, I am grabbing my copy of Summerteeth, and driving around blasting the hell out of it. And I totally agree with it being awful if a friend finds out via this board. Sadly, it wouldn't surprise me if it happens.
-
Ditto. It seems strange for them to just post that picture out of the blue.
-
It doesn't reflect well on a legitimate news site to publish a death rumor, so until there's some official word from someone related to/friends with Jay, I wouldn't expect to see it on any of those sites.
-
I think the management site's changes could say a lot. And again, I doubt that any music news site is going to publish this story now. It's a holiday weekend. And it's a very young rumor/development.
-
His myspace page was myspace.com/jaybennett It's still up.
-
Oh god. THAT looks bad. This could very well be awful. Still awaiting more news...
-
I highly doubt it. If it was Jeff, maybe there'd be an MTV bit, but still unlikely. I don't think anyone expects Jay Bennett to be seen on MTV for any reason. Did they even cover the lawsuit, on air or online? I didn't see anything. Jay would get mentioned on many websites that deal with indie music news, but MTV seems a bit farfetched.
-
But, as it's been said, I don't believe a major news outlet will scramble to publish this story as soon as they hear about it. If word gets out now, I think this is a story that would easily wait until tomorrow, or after the holiday, to be published. Jay Bennett is not a celebrity, folks. I hope it isn't true, but if it is, don't expect MTV to do a breaking news piece.
-
Exactly. The lawsuit involved WILCO. A much more publicly known entity. Wilco is not involved in this, if it is true, so it will take longer to get in any big news outlet, if it does at all.
-
It's also the Sunday of a three day weekend. Major news outlets are not exactly going crazy to distribute news of a relatively obscure musician's possible death, especially without any real proof.
-
This is true. But I'm sure word of it will still reach Jay relatively quickly. Who knows?
-
Well, if it is all made up, word of this will soon reach Jay, who will post an "I'm alive" blog or something.

23rd May, Tenerife (Spain): Wilco tour kickoff
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to jarenas's topic in After The Show
I thought the same, but I guess the album technically isn't out yet, so maybe it'll be a few shows before we've seen every W(TA) song played. As long as they play almost all of the album in July, I'll be good. -

Bits and pieces, pleasures and disappointments
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Ghost of Electricity's topic in Just A Fan
I think, as someone may have already said, this album will quiet a little bit of the "Nels contributes nothing but guitar wanking" shouts. There really aren't that many outright "solos" in the Impossible Germany/Side With The Seeds vein on this album. I think Nels still contributed a lot to this record, adding comparatively minor guitar bits here and there that really help the songs grow. It's one of the things that struck me as strange at first, but grew on me in a big way. -
I don't know if this belongs here, or in SES, but I've wanted to check this band out for a while. Which album is a good one to look for?

Best Buy re-vinylized
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Central Scrutinizer's topic in Someone Else's Song
It depends how good of a system you want. I'm only casually into vinyl, mainly exploiting that you can find great albums for a few bucks at thrift stores and such. The turntable I use is one of those "CD/Tape/Phonograph" things you can get at Walmart, or wherever, for not much at all. It's definitely the low end of the scale, but it sounds good enough. If you go all out, $300 is nowhere near enough. But if you just want to get into it as a hobby, you can get a decent enough system for $300 tops. Overall, it depends on whether or not you want to best system possible, or a passable
