A friend turned me on to Fear recently. What a fine frickin' record. nice to see this getting some love. My Own Jo Ellen is way better than any Olsen-less era Jayhawks stuff. Mansour Seck's 2 solo records Freakwater. Luna -

Jay Bennett's Pedalboard - Name that pedal!
Ghost of Electricity replied to pmancini100's topic in Solid State Technology
if you pause the video at 40:12 you get a different angle of Jay's board which shows in profile the shape of some of those pedals. at 42:03 or so he hits the white boss pedal three or four times in rapid succession- my guess is that he's using the tuner bypass as a kill switch in the noisy bit- can't really hear it though. He definitely makes extensive use of tremolo in the song, i don't think it's amp trem, so that points toward the tremodillo (or at least a different trem unit) -

I'll have a watch/listen to that ACL again when i get a chance and see if my ears can help me determine if there's any obvious candidates (like phaser). I din't know he'd used a blue box. that things are quite often maligned in the gear-snob world. Some slapback delay makes sense, and so does some compression before it, for those country moments like Forget the Flowers. If the Boss is a tuner, the "Arion" probably isn't. And the Boss definitely looks like a tuner (white, no knobs) if anyone starts a thread on a gear forum could you post a link here please? -
Didn't Jeff once cover "3 is a magic number?"

lots of people i've had similar conversations with say "across the universe" but i'm actually ok with it. -
Not a band, but Johnny Cash's American Recordings are among the best stuff he ever did.

Interested to hear about that Squier Jazzmaster...keep us informed! Yesterday at a flea market I scored a great deal on an old (70's?) German made stand alone delay/reverb unit. An old 70's combo organ also on the way. -
So I've had this idea for a while now but based on the discussion in another thread (which incidentally I also started), I decided to finally articulate it. It comes from the ideas of Isaiah Berlin and the Greek poet Archilochus before that, who said "The Fox knows many things but the Hedgehog knows one big thing." Basically I view the AM through SBS years as the "fox" years when each record broke into previously unchartered territory, and was accomplished by a different lineup. The band ran quickly from alt- country through lush pop through dissonant noise to 70s soft rock. But start

Frank's Hard Drive
Ghost of Electricity replied to Ghost of Electricity's topic in Someone Else's Song
So the radio interview will be broadcast tomorrow (tuesday) 7pm local time, which is noon Chicago time. If anyone is interested in hearing the singer, the drummer and myself BSing with a very pleasant Polish radio announcer (who claimed her favorite band is Calexico), you can catch the link here: http://www.radiokrakow.pl/www/index.nsf/OnLine/ incidentally, we've also had another review, but I'll stop boring you with those. -

I wonder how much of this has to do with me growing up in Chicago in the 1990's -

Thanks Todd! The reviewers all seem to be scratching their heads, not knowing who to compare us to. Who are some of those bands? 20PLN at the current exchange rate is $5.80. -

#65 Camper Van Beethoven Pictures of Matchstick Men is a cover of a Status Quo son from 1968(?) and therefore belongs much earlier. But that's nitpicking. Pretty impressive. I wonder hor many it takes it took him to nail it. -

I'm bumping this for the simple reason that I want to check it later when there's a guitar in my hands and am too lazy to use the search button again.
