I haven't been following the solo tour thread, so apologies if it's being covered there. http://pitchfork.com/news/55244-wilcos-jeff-tweedy-announces-tour-new-solo-album-coming/ Ok, good news. Immediate questions: Is this a break from Wilco or the, ummm, next thing? There have been rumours of a Loose Fur record this year too. What's the status of that? I have to say i wasn't expecting this...

Most ((Groundbreaking)) Song Ever??

good ideas above. I'll add: Kinks - You Really Got Me (use of distortion) Link Wray - Rumble (broke so much ground it became the only instrumental ever to be banned from radio) and something by Velvet Underground as that opened the way to the whole "alternative" thing (or whatever you call it) maybe I'm Waiting for My Man or Heroin -
New record? That's some good news:)

More Medeski, Martin and Wood With Nels Cline Hinted At
Ghost of Electricity replied to ditty's topic in Just A Fan
Yeah, I try to avoid the place though. It's run by depressed snobs. How do you know about it? Give me a shout when you make it this way, I'll show you around. MMW and Nels are playing at the Museum of Japanese Culture. Go figure. -

So i was walking my son to preschool this morning and there's a poster: Medeski Martin and Wood and Nels Cline. In my town, in two weeks. Holy $#!t. This doesn't happen here. What a great day. -

Yeah, you're right. Maybe if we give him the Sudetenland he'll stop. That's all he really wants anyway. -

Have The Wilco ever smashed their instruments??
Ghost of Electricity replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Just A Fan
if anyone can find that whole show, post the link. i've looked, and can't. But i know it's there because i saw it once. -
i've considered a rat before. What's the difference between a rat and a turbo rat? Todd, what are you playing that beautiful tele through? (i vaguely remember this being discussed, but i'm feeling too lazy to go looking for it)

I managed to swap the Trower for the FD2 today, left the phase at home, tried some trem. I've decided the Swollen Pickle is not for me. Also, the slapback sounds fine on it's own, but muddies up the band arrangement a bit...that might get left home next tome too. And the ehearsal was much better than the last one. maybe it wasn't the pedals after all.

in my own defence, the board was thrown together at the last minute, using a 2nd od borrowed from the bassist (fulltone robin Trower, didn't like it). which i had to do because the other guitarist, who had previously been very much a stright into the amp purist, started using my FD2 (because I wasn't). and now he's sold on it, it'll be hard to get back. the main questions now are: "how much does the phase add in those 2 or 3 songs where i use it?" and "do i really need slapback on the country stuff?"

wherever it is, I'm pretty sure that folks groan and roll their eyes on the rare occasion that Ction stormed in to booze grouchily, and faces light up with glee on the equally rare occasion when Lotti makes a grand entrance.

My hopes are rapidly fading that this can be peacefully resolved. The Ukranian people are dvided it seems, but leaning towrds Maidan. Putin may be an asshole, but he has balls, and like you say won't let go easily. US and Europe, who have no balls, aren't willing stand up for the ideals they claim to hold dear. Sad. http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2014/mar/20/fascism-russia-and-ukraine/ -
After I had a board I was reasonably happy with, I stopped going to the gear page for a long time. The GAS stopped. Eventually, I got sick of lugging the whole board to rehearsal (i walk there), so put a fuzz, od, and tuner in the gig bag, and that was that. stopped worrying so much about my feet; more about my hands. my playing improved. had a couple of great gigs that way. then, a couple of weeks ago, i started going back to the gear page again. gas came back. pedal board came out again. first rehearsal with it back yesrday. And....it was a crap rehearsal.
