I finally picked up this album over the last weekend, and I have to say I was very impressed. I hope we see some of that same noise and experimentation on Wilco's next record.
-
Just thought this would be an interesting poll. I'm pretty sure most Wilco fans would consider Impossible Germany their favorite song on Sky Blue Sky (although I'm probably wrong). So I was just wondering what Via Chicago's favorite song off of Sky Blue Sky was besides that masterpiece?
edit: You're only allowed to add 10 answers to the poll, so I left off Leave Me Like You Found Me. Sorry to anyone who liked that song.

I wasn't much a fan of HMD originally, but have grown to love it. Originally, I didn't like the feel of it mid-album. I thought it kind of ruined the flow of the album. Now, I couldn't disagree more. I think it's perfect where it is.
That said, it's still probably my second least favorite song on YHF, in front of only War On War. But that's no knock on either song, more so a testament to the greatness of the others.
I always thought Jesus Etc, Ashes and HMD fit together real nicely and they were almost like a suite. I couldn't imagine the album without any of those songs on there.
-
I've seen it a lot here, people saying HMD is a bad song because it isn't as 'deep' or artsy as the other songs on YHF, which, while I agree, I still think it's an amazing song and one of my favorites on YHF. Is there something wrong with me or am have I just been misunderstanding people's attitudes about this track?
-
The Pixies for sure. And Phish's comeback was pretty swell.
-
Give Me Strength by Neil Young
Or Homefires. Most of the Homegrown album actually. Shame it was never released. There are some really great songs on there.
-
Heard Jesus etc. on NBC's show Mercy a few days ago. I don't even watch that show but was presently surprised when I heard that song while channel surfing.
-
We can thank Mr.O'Rourke for that.
Yeah, I really wish he would work with the band again.
-
^^Agreed, although I prefer all the versions on Ghost, with the exception of Late Greats. I really like the production of all the songs, and haven't heard any live versions that compare to the originals. They were all perfectly captured in the studio recordings. Though HD and Hell is Chrome come close.
-
He nor they have played it live actually (according to wilcobase records at least), not a Jeff Tweedy & Jay Bennett show, not a Wilco show, not a Jeff solo show. It's pretty curious.
Jay's played it live a few times, it must be a Bennett song. Bad memories I suppose.
My List:
Impossible Germany
I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
She's A Jar
Spiders
New Madrid
When You Wake Up Feeling Old
Passenger Side
Gun
The Lonely 1
Muzzle of Bees
War on War
Too Far Apart
Hotel Arizona
break
The Late Greats
Jesus Etc.
I'll Fight
Box Full Of Letters
Poor Places
Hell Is Chrome
Theologians
encore:
Misunderstood
Airline to Heaven
Either Way
Hate It Here
Acuff-Rose
If only...

So if Glenn Kotche's on it does that mean that O'Rourke will be on the next Wilco album? I hope so.
-
So, what's the chance of getting another album?
These guys are great so I'm pretty excited.
-
There's a good number of artists there that I'd like to see but I'm pretty sure there's going to be a couple more headliners or so. In my opinion they have a really good lineup already though, I would definitely consider going.
M. Ward, DMB, Tenacious D, Medeski Martin & Wood, Flaming Lips, Jeff Beck, Calexico, The National, They Might Be Giants, to name a few. Although I kinda wish it would be a normal Lips show, maybe they'll play some other songs along with Dark Side.
-
Cool, Mumford & Sons will be performing. Always wanted to see them.
-
Yeah, there's still a lot to be announced. There's already quite a few I'd like to see. And there's still a few headliners that haven't been announced yet.
-
I'm surprised there aren't any threads about this yet, the organizers for Bonnaroo have been announcing the lineup for 2010's festival all day, and so far it's been incredbile! Here's what's been confirmed so far:

That's the list so far, they're announcing acts all day.
Last year's lineup I thought was unbeatable, but I think this one's about beat it by a mile. Plus, there's rumors of Pavement, MMJ, The Stones, Stevie Wonder, and Neil Young attending. And a lot of rumors concerning this year's lineup have been true. I can't wait to see what else they announce.
-
I can't believe nobody recorded the whole thing on their cell phone.
-
ALTWYS
Spiders
Monday
Via Chicago
Muzzle of Bees
Hell is Chrome
Handshake Drugs (KT)
Impossible Germany
Kingpin (live)
I Got You
I like most of the live versions, but the ones from ABIG have that classic take feel, so I prefer the studio versions of them (except for Handshake Drugs, which absolutely rocks on Kicking Television).
-
I saw some good footage from the event on youtube, unfortunately none of it was of Wilco.
-
Dave Matthews - The Needle and The Damage Done:
Starts about 1:42 in.
Anyone have WILCO?
-
Cool, I just made a contribution.
Thanks, Wilco.

Heard Can't Stand It on the radio earlier to day. It made my day, first time I've heard something from Summerteeth on the radio
-
1. A Ghost Is Born
2. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
3. Being There
4. Summerteeth
5. Sky Blue Sky
6. AM
7. Wilco (the album)

Yes, this always has been in the back of my head since it was announced.
NBC kept boasting about the low cost of a single episode of the Jay Leno Show as opposed to a scripted hour long drama's episode.
"Each airing of Leno costs about $350,000 to $400,000 versus up to $3 million for an hour-long drama, saving NBC $13 million each week without the network needing the show to beat its competitors."
Let's get Chevy Chase back on late night.
Give Chevy another chance!
Lol, NBC.

Honestly I was a little surprsied to see You Are My Face get so many votes. I would have figured Side With The Seeds and Hate It Here would have taken the top spots. That's all right though, it just shows how Wilco's work can be interpreted many different ways.
