  1. surely everyone has heard although i do know (like a lot of these people) they seem to get more respect from the uk than america - for some strange reason. edit: oh, and maybe listening will help you make up your mind -
  2. I think, whilst everyone goes on about Dr. Ebbett and Purple Chick, I think you really have to hear them on vinyl to appreciate them. Because, whilst those versions are sourced from vinyl - I personally think you lose a fair bit in the transfer from analogue to digital, and really you have to treat the digital transfer differently to bring out the best in it - rather than trying to be faithful to the analogue source. I do still think they sound better than the official cd transfers, but I think these new remasters are going to be a massive improvement - with the stereo as well as the mono. I'v
  3. They are all really good artists, but I'd say that Lambchop have put out the better albums, in general. Nixon and Is A Woman are a couple of the best modern country albums ever made (although I'd call them country/soul really). Bonnie Prince Billy is perhaps more naturally talented, but recently he's not so hot on the quality control (not to Ryan Adam's levels, but not great either). M Ward, too is good, but he's not quite in Lambchop's league when it comes to song craft. So, get some Lambchop, and start with Nixon - then go from there in which ever direction you see fit.
  4. you can hear clips from all the songs here now so, it turns out that there are going to be 2 good songs on this new album. 'this dream of you' and 'i feel a change comin on' - still, many people can't even manage one good song, so it's not so bad if you feel like looking at it from that perspective.
  5. well you've got to get yourself paris 1919 immediately, as it's one of the greatest albums ever made. but, apart from that can i recommend you pick up this at the same time. it includes the three albums following paris 1919 (fear, slow dazzle & helen of troy) plus a few bonus tracks too. all of those albums are essential listening, and so it works out a great package for the price. as for the john cale/lou reed debate. i think cale is a better musician, better lyricist, better arranger, brilliant producer, released more great albums, nicer person, and most importantly - doesn't look like
  6. i just looked on amazon.com and they are $18.98 - which works out a lot more than the uk price which is
  7. before madonna women were press-ganged into girl groups and solo artists slots. they weren't paid. they weren't ever allowed to write their own songs. couldn't dance. weren't allowed to be liked by young people. influenced nothing. 22nd June 1981 saw the last public hanging of a female recording artist, and within 2 weeks they were given the vote. before madonna there was no such thing as music. before madonna sex didn't exist. before madonna there was no madonna. before madonna everyone got beaten for everything always. madonna can fit the rock and roll hall of fame under her tongue. i could
  8. listening to it now. it sounds absolutely great. garth hudsons mad organ parts are incredible - you can't even really hear hm much on the official release. thanks.
  9. i read today that that is how many letters paul has in his surname MCCARTNEY (count them - 9) and that is clearly why he is dead!
  10. but i want them in stereo too! what's so wrong with wanting everything for nothing? this is the modern age!
  11. brilliant, thanks that definately warrants a kiss from me.
  12. waahh! if anyone gets ahold of this in mp3 or something, could they please pm me.
  13. i think abbey road is the only album that was mixed and thought about in terms of stereo, by the band - that's another point about how the albums should be represented how the band intended at the time. who exactly would trust modern day mccartney over 1960s paul mccartney over choosing what's best musically?
  14. the white album was mono too - it's actually the best sounding of their albums in mono. i think it's abbey road that was in stereo. basically, and i'm sure this has been said before, the beatles made the albums in mono and then let someone else mix them in stereo - i don't even think george martin got involved in the stereo mixes, although i could be wrong. they sound much punchier in mono and fuller sounding and the levels are better, plus often it's much more than just the music being mono or stereo, they used different takes, faded stuff in and out, and generally did different things from
  15. yeah, you can cancel right up until the point they package them. i thought that was the case with most online shops - i think it's probably the law, in england as least.
  16. they are listed on amazon.co.uk and hmv (i said it a few posts back) i bet you there's loads. they're lying to us! just take that recent revolution take 20 - that was better than virtually everything on Anthology 3, so why wasn't it on there?
  17. they should've mixed up the release dates of those rolling stones albums a bit. a bit like van morrison's reissues are doing at the moment. cos like solace said, their sales figures are going to drop off quite conciderably after the first and second batches.
  18. they can put them on two discs - that's fine with me. even if it meant paying a bit more. really the price of cds is nothing though, it shouldn't even really effect the final cost. or if it does then loads of recent reissues must be running at a loss. i can't see how you can look at this as anything other than a ripe off really.
  19. that's a bit different. plus you can buy pet sounds with mono and stereo mixes of the album. if they want to release box sets as good and extensive as the pet sounds one for each album, after the normal mono/stereo reissues come out, that'll be fine with me. i can't think of any other band that have released mono and stereo versions in this way. they either release only mono or only stereo, or if they release both they put them in one affordable package.
  20. no, it'd be the same price, but with mono and stereo mixes. like everyone else does.
  21. yeah, that's the issue i have with it. the fact that you have to buy the mono versions as a boxset - and it's not even all the albums. every other band seems ok with putting mono and stereo, plus bonuses, in one package - i'm not entirely sure why they think they're above all that. i don't see how anyone can look at this and not see it as money grabbing, and screwing over the buying public.
  22. what a total bunch of bastards! i was so happy when i preordered my albums, and now i hear this news. looks like i'm never going to get these in mono cos i don't want to have to buy a whole bunch of albums i won't listen to very much for the 5 or 6 that i really want. these people really need to team up with George Lucas. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! i'm actually in 2 minds whether or not to cancel the preorders i made and just download all the albums for free, out of spite.
