  1. Definatley, it's all Sven's fault, the man just sits down and crosses his fingers when the whistle blows. He should be up shouting out his orders like any half qualified manager would. The man is appalling. Everything else is right about the team and yet he finds a way to mess matters up, how are the team supposed to motivate themselves with him behind them?
  2. The problem with that is that England has probably the best midfield in the whole world, and David Beckham kicking the ball over their heads every time is a bit of a waste. It kind of makes sense when Crouch and Owen are up front together, but that's not going to happen now. He won't be able to do that if England maintain this new formation though as it'll be pointless kicking the ball up to Rooney on his own, so maybe Beckham's place in the team will be redundant. They are never going to drop him, but after seeing Carrick in midfield with Hargreaves in defence (which worked very well), Beckha
  3. Oh right, as in to seize hold of. I've never heard the word used in those terms before I don't think. I understand now though.
  4. I actually think he was ill, rather than the fact that he puked from working too much. I could see how nerves might do that, but I'd assume he'd be used to those sorts of stress levels already, so the fact that he was feeling ill and still played is interesting. Apparently Sven didn't know, so if we'd lost all hell would have broken loose after finding out that a sick man was on the pitch. All credit to Beckham though, he wanted to play so much he'd even do so whilst being ill (still think he's one of the worst players on the pitch). The mistakes in the Sweden game were totally due to his inab
  5. Well the last time he scored for England before that was 2003, so take from that what you will. What are clutch kicks? Is that the American for free kick? If so, where does that term come from, it sounds interesting.
  6. Lambchop - Damaged. (The Decline Of Country And Western Civilization is bloody brilliant!)
  7. Did they mention Beckham threw up after he scored? I don't know if he was ill or was nervous/excited, but he did. You wouldn't want to slide through that stuff if you could help it. Apart from that goal, which was a great free kick, he really shouldn't have been playing though, if he's not on form and crossing well he is pretty much a waste of a player on the pitch. The only thing is that he seems to deliver when it's needed. It was a fairly boring match. Good that we won, but Ecuador were never even in it, apart from that mistake in the first half. Rooney looked like he was getting back on
  8. That was a sitter though, if he can't score them then he shouldn't be playing in a club side let alone international. He doesn't look happy still though. It's a shame because he seems like a person who takes playing football (normally anyway) in the spirit it should be played.
  9. I've backed the Croatians in this tournament (besides England), so I hope they can hold on (not that it'll save them , but they'll save face at least). As for Jap v Braz - Japan have just scored! I haven't thought to much of Brazil this World Cup - they don't really stand a chance of winning playing at this level, but then the same can be said for England, so things can change!
  10. Basically, we need a new manager. Finally we've got a world class team, and we get stuck with a third rate manager - I'd rather have Glenn Hoddle or Graham Taylor or Kevin Keegan than him. He won that trophy for his haircut I think.
  11. I think Walcott has more chance of playing than them dropping Beckham. I agree about the midfield approach though, I can't see the logic behind not playing to our strengths - and Lampard & Gerrard are our strengths, so a change in formation will suit them better. I think that Lennon could still play with Beckham on the pitch, it would just involve Cole or Beckham dropping back slightly to play the role Hargreaves as adopted (who is certainly not bad by any means, but nor is he a match winner). We need Lennon to really run at the other sides defence, last night I was screaming at the TV for
  12. Where has it leaked to? I'd like to hear this. NP. Heart Food - Judee Sill
  13. Is that a soundboard recording? I don't have that and I was there. If it's not soundboard I'm not bothered about finding it, but if it is then I'm all over that thing.
  14. I think it's let down quite a bit by the time in which it was recorded. The production sounds a bit dated, and at times the feel of the album and arrangements are very mid-90's sounding (that's cos they are, I guess, but it sounds stuck in that time too much for my liking). It's that damn drum sound that came out the 80's and still slunk around until the late 90's that does it. He's also showing off a bit too much at times for my taste, unlike his dad who has got some far better albums and is far more expressive a singer (not to mention a whole lot more fun) in my humble opinion. Check out Gre
  15. Terry Butcher still wins on the blood front. The amount of blood is just insane!
  16. Looks like S&M are getting a good whipping! (ba-boom chaaah!)
  17. It's called "playing the offside trap". Basically as long as they (they being the defence) push out at the right time before the ball is passed forward from the attacking side then you don't need to mark the player as he will be offside when the ball is struck. Equally if the player is already offside before the ball is struck he can be ignored. It was a good goal, shame that he was offside.
  18. I thought it was a little dull myself, not terrible, but it never really seemed to offer anything but a Brazil win. I hope you recorded the Spain v Ukraine game because that was incredible. Surprise! Surprise! After everyone saying that Spain always promise and never deliver, this time when nobody expected much they look like they are playing really really well as a team. From the matches so far they look the best side by some distance, although this could easily change in the games to come judging from past tournaments.
  19. Today has been the worst day of football so far. South Korea v Togo was kind of fun, but nothing that special. And the other two games were pretty dull. I hope France get knocked out, I've never liked the French side, a bit like the Italians, when they won it in 1998 they were pretty dull until the final if my memory serves me well and the players on paper always seem far better than they do on the pitch altogther. As for the Brazil game, I was hoping Croatia would win, but never mind - they certainly put up a good fight even though the Brazilians looked only running on half power most of the
  20. F. off I'm backing Croatia too, or I was until mthomp told me they are all ill with food poisoning. I actually still wouldn't put it past America to beat Italy and Ghanna and then go on to the next round. In a game between Italy and America most people will be behind the Americans I am sure.
  21. They've only got that rating due to the teams they have to play in their qualifying rounds, really it means nothing when the European and South American, and even the African groups are far more competetive. I think it's wrong to say the American's are terrible, cos they're not, but the Czechs are a very good side and some of their best teams would have a hard time playing them I am sure. America can still qualify, so don't go giving up hope on them just yet.
  22. 2-0. absolutely brilliant goal too.
