That is a very good live album, you're right. Have you got the MIU/La cd? That is the only 2 albums from the 70's I don't have, but I am not too sure if it is worth owning. What do you think?
-
Exactly. Plus, really they weren't all about singles by this time - you have to hear the albums as a whole.

I wasn't really including 15 Big Ones in my list of over-looked post Pet Sounds albums, but certainly Love You (which you can get as a 2-fer cd with 15 Big Ones) is the last album they made that is worth listening to. Johnny Carson (that's on Love You actually) is definately a very weird track, but it shows how they are prepared to do anything in their music. Actually one of my favourite things about the band is that they can be totally corny and incredibly inventive often in the space of one song. Personally my favourite Beach Boys album is Holland, but certainly Sunflower, Surf's Up, Frien

The thing about The Beach Boys to me which offers more than The Beatles is that by the time I was 8 I knew all there is to know about The Beatles & Simon & Garfunkel for that matter, because my parents played all the albums all the time, as most other parents probably did too. However, with The Beach Boys most parents (and mine included) only used to play their early music reguarly (basically it was a Beach Boys comp or John Denver comp on every holiday trip or long car journey) and it wasn't until I was a bit older before I heard Pet Sounds (from my parents record collection, but they

I think you're missing my point. I know you didn't say you didn't like them, which is why I never said you didn't in the first place. Neither did I ignore vocal groups from the past - what I actually said was that The Beach Boys were original in how they brought these various elements together in their music - they brought together old elements and made them sound new, in the same way The Beatles did - they weren;t the first to mix styles obviously, but neither were The Beatles, what they did do though was make the music sound original and their own. Also, I have made it pretty clear that I pr

All music in the 1960's 'built on some popular forms of music that already had quite a bit of history', nobody works in a vacuum. If you're trying to imply that The Beach Boys music is less important to some of the other major acts of the time because of this, then at least apply the critism across the board. Fair enough, if you don't like them as much, but you seem to be implying that they aren't as original as other acts of the time, when I believe they were original in the fact that they brought together various musical forms and put them together in a wholly original way - in much the same

You should include Carl & The Passions and Holland in that list too. If you haven't got them, I highly recommend them - both those albums sound very modern to me in a lot of places. I also think those albums you mentioned stand out above most other albums of the times too, and I can't really understand why they never really sold so well. I also think that the flowering of Dennis and Carl as song writers during that period made them a better band because they had far more sides to them. You had Dennis's heartfelt ballads, Carls's soul sides, Brian still making great tunes, Mike doing the

I am with you. The vocals of The Beach Boys (not just on this album, but others after it) are in a different league than any other band. The lyrics fit the music perfectly, you are right. Also, The Beach Boys (not this album, but the late 1960's early 70's band) influenced Super Furry Animals massively, and seeing as how they are my favourite modern band I hold The Beach Boys in higher esteem than The Beatles (no doubt Super Furry Animals like The Beatles too, who doesn't?, but that doesn't mean they had the same influence on the types of bands and music I like). It's also worth baring in mind

I was including him in the whole 'bad ref' thing too.
-
If that were the case then normally (and the way it should be done) is that the ref would have instantly shown a yellow, then he would have shown another yellow for the push on Ronaldo, then a red because he had given to yellows. That's the way it should have gone. Here is what Ronaldo said about the incident: "People will say that the referee gave the red card because I spoke with him. This is not true. I spoke with him to say it was a foul, but I only said it was a foul, not a red card," said Ronaldo. "I think the English press will say Rooney was sent off because of me but it is not t

From the close-up of his foot it looks intentional, but from a bit further back I'd say it wasn't. He had two of their players around him and he'd scrambled around on the floor to keep the ball twice, so his balance was poor - I think if you fall over on the floor in front of any player (especially Wayne Rooney) in that sort of situation you are going to get your leg trodden on, or in this case your balls stomped! Rooney is like most other footballers, and is unable to hold his tongue at times and keep his temper checked, and that's why he got a card. To be honest, we played better with 10 men

For the band, it's significance was that it meant everything they did after would be unfairly judged against it. As a result, some brilliant albums of theirs are totally over-looked. Apart from that, it's very good.

I love Boris. If it weren't for him appearing on occassion on Have I Got News For You, I think I would have given up watching that show long ago. Going head first into the groin really is a classy move by Boris, it's moves like that which won us 2 world wars and 1 world cup!

Thanks to everyone for talking about this in the last few pages. I've now downloaded a copy, listened to it, found out that i think i'll like this an awful lot, and then ordered a copy. I'm now playing my illegal copy until my legit one shows up. Oh, and Second Guessing is just as good, by the way (although that's from a quick listen)

If you haven't got the album that the original version comes from, I think you'd like it. There are quite a few other great numbers as good and interesting as Brimful of Asha

They've just released a double cd of her two albums, plus a whole bunch of live & demo recordings in the UK called - Abracadabra if you find that you like what you hear. It's only about

I wouldn't say that; they've won it three times. Now, we've had some bad luck (Maradona's Hand Of God for example, Penalties against Germany). I wouldn't mind the Italian's winning so much if they were actually enjoyable to watch, but they aren't.

I thought it was a conflict not a war. Her sort of talk in England would just result in a lot of pointing and laughing at her, so I can't really take any of this stuff as anything but funny. However, I can see why you feel worried by what she says, and she certainly is far far more offensive in every respect than someone such as Michael Moore.

Sorry, I just got the impression you were taking the piss, and dismissing him, by doing what you did; and I thought that was only going to lead to him doing the same back to you. I agree with you, by the way, not that I know who this woman is - thankfully she's not impacted on my life in England yet, and hopefully never will. . . . continue, the arguement (I can't add anything cos I don't know her) ...
-
Totally agree. Rooney shoulder barged one the Ecuadorians in the last game and the bloke went flying, I think that there is nothing wrong with that, especially as Rooney is built like a brick shit house, and he's never going to get barged off the ball. None of these FIFA rules fit into the British style of football though, they want to kill off the fun of the game, clearly.
-
We've had 2 poked in against us, in the Sweden game. I agree with you on people being too negative toward England, but ultimately they have to prove they are better - I think they will, but clearly other people don't.
-
Both of you are too dismissive of each other to argue; surely. Changing a quote into [bunch of quotes] is not going to lead to the other person debating properly. Asking for proof of a statement, then boiling that proof (whether you believe it to be proof or not) down to [bunch of quotes] is not going to lead to the other person spending the time to back up their views in the first place. This, I am sure, goes the other way too. So, why argue?

Well at least, whatever happens, he'll be gone by the end of the World Cup and we'll have an English Manager again with at least some knowledge of the game. I still actually think we have a good chance (I don't want my posts to sound like me being negative about England). The fact that we have played so-so and not burnt ourselves out with great football will be to our advantage as the tournament goes on. I think we actually played our best football so far on Saturday, so we need to just keep improving and we'll keep winning.
