  1. all of what you said. What a joy it was.
  2. I agree that this ripper was a huge highlight...so fun. And california stars with Woody's granddaughter was sort of tear inducing for me (in my old sappy way that i seem to have now) I couldn't go last year, so this was my first. What a joyous experience. The rain was a challenge at times (stayed at Solid Ground campsite), but who cares. I don't even think about the rain when I think back on the memory of the experience. So well run. Family friendly, yet still experimental/avant gard, and envelop pushing. That's a tough thing to pull off!
  3. i hear you, but i'd keep at it for a bit (for as long as you can take it i guess) I *like* how this time the songs have more room to breath and open up. But in terms of something more immediate (and later in the record), i really find "Lorelei" to be one of the best things they've done. Also - really give "The Shrine/An Argument" a try. That's one of the ones that open up into new avenues. I really love when it seems like there are two or three songs in one (and say what you want about the weird acid jazz freakout at the end - it's...interesting).
  4. great stuff...great photo! did you ask him how he felt the tour was going? hope they're enjoying it... like you said, want him always coming back and feelin' welcome Boston is here if the spirit moves ya
  5. also, if you're really jonesing, come on up to Boston - ticket awaits you I won two (in addition to the two i already had) from Turnstile when they did a twitter promo to win tix to any show. i think this will be my 4th Gruff solo, and i've seen the Furries 4 times. 4 and 4. Feel fortunate on that - only became a fan in '06, with he/they not touring a ton here in that time.
  6. yes I remember you! That was perfect - like it was part of the show. It was classic Gruff - fumbling, dropping, looking for stuff, and without missing a beat you grabbed what he was looking for. The timing was good. We were right in very front as well, one table over. so i also presume you're on Citizen's Board as well. I bet i'd recognize your handle there. That is AMAZING that info - thanks! really really excited about anything Bunf. Glad you got that info out of him - did he just pop out onto the the main bar area after the show?
  7. yeah, i was there...i love the looping solo version too...it was interesting hearing it enter that rock-groove territory with Y Niwl! I wanted to get some of their merch. Cool stuff. Gonna have to in Boston.
  8. yeah, it was fun the other night in Brooklyn! wild seeing him with a full backing band. "Gwn Mi Wn" is just such a killer starter to the show...and as you saw in this live version it just locks into this awesome groove. "Skylon!" with a full band is just ridiculously good. Good crowd in DC?
  9. I liked their first record enough, saw them at ACL in '08 (and found it a little awkward).....so i was never a fervent follower, so i think i can approach Helplessness Blues from an objective standpoint. This record, in my opinion, is gorgeous. And it it's a huge grower. It took a number of listens to really sink in. It's much better than the first. Saw them the other night in Boston, and it was rather epic. Started off slowly, crowd seated (theater show), and suddenly pockets of people stood up, and the whole place followed. Crowd was amazing - loud, raucous and appreciative after songs,
  10. love that little sunny tune, too...Too short!
  11. sweet....i'm hitting the Brooklyn show Wed....luck would have it, my wife is there for work (we live in Boston), so with free lodging, it was a no brainer.. and will be hitting the Boston show. I hope Separado! soundtrack is released soon (i think i read it will be at some point?)
  12. cool replies - glad i found SFA/Wilco fans.....thought i'd share this....this is the end credits song to Separado! - Gruff's south american roadtrip film. It's typical of SFA/Gruff to just toss thing like this out, almost as throwaway, and yet it's one of the more gorgeous things he's done solo (IMO). SFA does it with B-sides that are sublime - you wonder how they didn't make the records... http://www.4shared.com/audio/dVHXu8v8/Trofannau.html Make sure everyone sees this guy on his tour starting next week!
  13. Shakespeare (and other SFA fans on here) - I should have done an SFA search before a post i just made, regarding Summerteeth and SFA. You sound exactly like me Shakespeare - got into SFA in 2006 for Love Kraft, via The Lips (specifically Kliph!), and never looked back. Remain as obsessed as ever, and love every little thing they do. Hard to say faves, but I'd tell Wilco fans to start by easy-vibing it with Phantom Power (quite possibly my favorite - brilliant)...and of course "Rings" given its ginormous, expansive sound...unreal stuff. Went to the only "Dark Days/Light Years" US show in NY
  14. Hi, this is highly random, and could be a good candidate for "0 replies," but....I'm a rabid SFA fan - i love that sweeping, melodic, laid back yet adventurous neo-psych stuff, etc - the strings of the High Llamas that complement many of their records. Anyone on here a fan of both SFA and Wilco? I see Summerteeth being the most "SFA-like" Wilco record - ie, it's got more of an orchestral, Beach Boys-ian, harmony laced feel over most of their records...it's just always struck me that i get this SFA vibe when i hear the record. Anyone else?
  15. saw these guys a few years ago ('07 maybe?) open for Dr. Dog, for their first record (which was good)....second one, i wasn't loving
  16. first post in some time...big Wilco fan but i never come round! I never, for whatever reason, gave The Autumn Defense a spin. I did so yesterday, and couldn't believe how gorgeous the music is...totally up my alley - sunny, Laurel Canyon-esque psych folk/pop. Wow... I suspect i missed their stop through Boston due to my complete and utter ignorance. Bad job by me.
  17. Silvertone around the corner is a very funky place for dinner - not expensive, and really good. It's usually packed though. Then - Beantown Pub for pre show drink. Anyone know approx time of show starting?
  18. so my question is, as a Frontgate/Wilco pre-sale newbie - about how many tickets are made available for pre sales, generally? when general sale happens, do you still have a shot at good seats? my last couple of Boston area Wilco shows i feel like i didn't have this trouble.
  19. ahhh...i remember those days. I remember doing mailorder for a string of CA shows, getting amazing mail orders (yes, gorgeous tickets)...only to have Garcia fall ill and cancel that tour (jeesh, that would have been '92, right?) ugh. oh well, i give up on this.
  20. the automatic "logging out", is fucking ridiculous. WTF? does Wilco management really know about this rinky dink ticket co operates?
  21. i've only seen a couple of Wilco shows, so i guess i'm not used to Frontgate, but what kind of bullshit is this? Did they really go on sale before 10:00? I was in right before 10, and all i could see were singles, and they wouldn't even let me buy those. Wilco ought to do business with someone who can get their shit straight. This is a disgrace.
  22. hi, sorry, newbie here to this forum, but big Wilco fan. And sorry if this doesn't belong here. Just curious if there has been any talk of this October tour expanding at all. After the Lowell, MA show, i need a quicker-than-usual fix! hopefully some Northeast dates added?
