Maybe time to request Jeff play a solo show in Australia - probably a much better chance of hearing some of those rarer tunes. I'd certainly be willing to chip in for a Letters to Santa/Living Room style show.
-
I think it was just that Jeff was annoyed that the couldn't extend the listed end time for the set. It kind of tied into some earlier comments he'd made about Springsteen (including that Pat had gone to the show the previous night).

The setlist as played: One Sunday Morning Poor Places Art of Almost I Might Sunken Treasure Spiders Impossible Germany Born Alone Laminated Cat Radio Cure Handshake Drugs Shouldn't Be Ashamed Jesus, etc Whole Love Box Full of Letters Always in Love Heavy Metal Drummer Dawned on Me Shot in the Arm The Late Greats Walken I'm the Man Who Loves You Unfortunately, Jeff came out at the start of the encore looking a bit annoyed and made a comment about there being different curfew rules for them compared to Bruce Springsteen (who was also playing Melbourne that night). I'm assuming this was a r

Just got back from the first Melbourne show. Will post setlist in the other forum, but here are a couple of (very poor) pics of the merch. Looks like there'll be posters for each city (I'd guess a combined Auckland/Wellington one).

Bang on - the official times are: Boomgates - 8.00 - 8.30 Wilco - 9.00 - 11.00

Hanging Rock will be absolutely amazing! I already had a ticket to Bluesfest otherwise that would be a must see. I haven't even started processing the second Bruce show and have two nights of Wilco then flying to Byron Bay, but I'll try to find time to sort it out and put it up by this weekend.
-
Yeah you aren't the only one, a bit gutted that Wilco is clashing with night three of Bruce. I recorded the two nights I went to if you're interested - night one will be up in the next day or two, not sure about night two.
-
Anyone seen any set times for tonight? The Arts Centre usually puts them up, but the only time I can see listed is 8pm, without an indication of what that is.
-
Still to hear anything off AM. Going to five of these shows, so surely I must get at least one right? Otherwise, a nice surprise would be great - an interesting cover, or something they haven't played for a while. Really I'm just glad to see them after three years.
-
No word on tour specific merch then? Particularly keen to see the poster.

Not sure if you're only looking at studio material, but there are some nice live versions of stuff from Down with Wilco that Jeff sings (Family Gardener is on Sunken Treasure, but I particularly like Dear Employer which is on some good quality bootlegs (I've got it on 9 January 2003, but there may be better versions). Nikki Sudden's album Red Brocade has Jeff singing on a really nice track titled Farewell My Darling (he also plays on other tracks, but adding everything he plays on would make your playlist much longer). There was a vinyl single a few years ago that had Jeff singing Deerhoof

If you want it, Bob Mould is Wed/Thurs, Neil Young is on Friday. So no clash after all.
-
Nobody has any interest in a ticket to Neil Young? I'll consider any offers, but I've got to get it sorted by tomorrow or it'll go to waste.
-
Thought I'd mention this here too since Melbournians aren't as likely to look in the tickets section: I can't go to the Neil Young show in Melbourne on the 15th anymore because of a bit of a family emergency. I'm leaving Melbourne on 12 March, so will need to have everything arranged by then (can either arrange to meet up in the CBD before the 12th, or make a payment and I'll overnight it). Looking for $125 or make an offer (original cost was $165 incl fees).

I'm planning to be at both Melbourne and Sydney shows, plus the first Bluesfest appearance. Planning on doing some recording too.

Wilco: "Sounding bad is really fun" - JT interview in The Vine
BeShakey replied to Albert Tatlock's topic in Just A Fan
Dash 7 must be on the list. -
A couple of hints about album progress ("demoing and messing around in the studio" before the March Australian tour) and the new album direction ("I don’t ever want to use the words that people have used to describe us like ‘experimental’ or ‘weird’, because I never have thought of us as being anything like that – but whatever that side of the band is, it feels like that’s an itch we haven’t scratched") in this interview teaser - http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/news/local/34913/Wilco-getting-prepared-to-make-another-record

Weird/obscure/strange covers you would like to see Wilco perform?
BeShakey replied to auburn's topic in Just A Fan
I'd love to hear them to an Otis Redding song, maybe Hard to Handle, That's How Strong My Love Is or Shake (I know its a Sam Cooke song, but I prefer the Otis version). I know JT is a big Otis Redding fan, but when I've heard him talk about Otis he was comparing his own voice unfavourably to Redding's, so maybe he wouldn't want to do it. Still, I think they could do a great version of an Otis tune, ideally with horns and Jeff dancing like Otis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gQOulwEjiE -
Huh, was thinking about that too today (boring day at work). I guess the problem would be what the casual fan would buy. I was thinking a box set of shows through the website, with a single disc 'best of the box' for retail might work. I guess the issue might be that there are so many good quality recordings freely available how much there is that people would be willing to pony up for (I'm sure hardcore fans would buy anything, but that probably wouldn't make it economically feasible).
-
Was just thinking it must be getting close to time for another live album/DVD. Can't see why you wouldn't want that, particularly given it shouldn't require much input from the band, so shouldn't hinder producing a new album.
-
Amazing how productive the guys are. I expected a break between W(TA) and Whole Love, but there was pretty much none and now news of a follow up this year. Not sure how they keep it up, but I'm glad they do.

Bought this before the Wilco dates in Sydney were announced and now I would rather attend them than this (particularly since I'm seeing him at Bluesfest). Ticket is roughly in the centre of the floor (O17 I think, but I can confirm if necessary) now sold out. Cost me $150 plus fees, asking $130 plus postage (if any, can organise a meeting around Melbourne CBD).
-
Really want to go to the second Sydney night, but I've already got a ticket to Robert Plant in Melbourne on 3 April. Anyone want to buy it for $149 (face value, no ticketing fees etc)? It's roughly centre in the middle of the floor (sold out now). Figured I'd be more likely to have some luck here than in the tickets section.

Is this definitely an extended 'Evening with' show (the last tour was billed as an Evening with, but was regular length shows)? I'm going to have to make some costly changes to flight bookings to make one of these, but it'd be worth it if there was some confirmation that this was going to be a chance to hear things I'll probably never hear otherwise.
