Brand Spanking New Election Thread
quarter23cd replied to mountain bed's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I haven't gotten a single survey call this election season...although, come to think of it, a lot of "Uknown Name"s have been popping up on the caller id lately and I generally don't answer those. -
I like this: Strangely, I'm not all that disheartened. The freedom of low expectations, I guess. My wife got me tickets to an O's game in August for my b-day--it was my first time back in Camden Yards since--well, since they were good. Brought the kids. Gorgeous night, and a relatively good fan turnout. The O's won something like 9-0. If I closed my eyes, it was almost like the good ol' days. Then they went on to lose something like a million games in a row after that. Seriously, why can't this team ever at least close out the season with some dignity intact? Oh well, I'm reading

That's not balance!!! In other news, I'd just like to go on the record as saying I am against Senator's McCain's war on Spain. Edit: That second part there is one of the weirder things I've encountered in my insomnia-fueled surfing. Doesn't look like the American press has really picked up on this yet and maybe it won't. At best, McCain appears to have had a "senior moment" and forgotten who the Prime Minister of Spain is (and possibly its geographic location). At worst, he just declared Spain an enemy. Wha?? This is the "foreign policy expert" in this election? -
I'm eagerly awaiting the Baltimore 2012 schedule, myself. That'll be our year! (to break .500)

Irrational? Did you see the offensive line the other night?

Yeah, what we're dealing with here are mostly pretty minor inconveniences when you put it into perspective. Major vibes down south, though.

Agreed. Heacock falls into a predictable zone D any time they face an opponent they can't just overpower. Its like watching a team play Prevent D for 60 minutes and wondering why it doesn't work. Just terrible. This defense is supposed to be the team's strength, but they're not aggressive at all. Writing that long post was cathartic, and above all, it really made me realize how much I miss Dantonio (or Fred Pagac, for that matter). Heacock gets more recognition than either of those guys ever got, but he's mostly done it against mediocre competition. I think of that defense in '02 and t

Wait? How many hours now? I lost track! Not 72, I think I meant almost 48. Shit, I lost track. But I'm not that far from you, so we're probably about the same. Campus is still out? Really? I would have thought that would have been one of the first areas back up. My wife works at COSI and says that most of downtown appears to be up and running. AEP is going to get to the rest of us "hopefully before Friday". Thanks, guys. Its not so bad, though. Some neighbors lost trees and shingles, but we made it through ok. We've got running water, so having no electricity isn't so bad--I

Heck, I'm in central Ohio and we haven't had electricity at my house for 72 hours and counting thanks to high winds from Ike. I think that really puts it into perspective for a lot of people around here--if we're seeing this kind of effect from the storm, its hard to wrap your head around what happened where the storm came ashore.

I have tickets to OSU's game vs. Troy this weekend. I'm taking my 5 year old daughter (following her soccer game, which means we may miss the first quarter or so). Seemed like a neat bonding thing and hopefully it will be a nice afternoon to chill out in South Stands and let her soak in what all the fuss is about in this town. I never dreamed this game might be more competitive than I anticipated. They better bounce back this week--she's too young to learn the fine art of couch burning!

I agree that Wisconsin is the safe bet, though I haven't really watched them closely yet. OSU, at best, I think, will be scrapping for a runner up spot with Illinois, Penn St, and Sparty...and could easily come out in the back of that pack the way they are playing right now. I think they'll rebound somewhat as the season goes on, if only because the Big Ten still isn't that strong this year.

No room for arrogance around here these days. OSU's performance the last 2 weeks was appalling. The defense is especially disappointing. With so many returning starters, its hard to imagine how this whole team got worse. It is evident in attitude more than anything, this team is sagging. They claim there will not be a QB controversy this year, but I don't see how you can avoid it. Boeckman doesn't seem to have his own team's respect (let alone opponent's)--there is a palpable uptick in energy every time Pryor enters the game. It looks to be a bumpy season, anyway, so why not get some ex

I feel like there has been a stange silence on the Dem side since the GOP convention. Its hard to argue that the GOP has the momentum when it feels like the Dems aren't even trying. I was watching the OSU/USC football game Saturday night, and the pain of actually watching that wretched game was only intensified by seeing a McCain/Palin ad during every commercial break. I don't remember seeing any Obama ads. You know, its not like this is a battleground state or anything. And its not like this was an event that you could guarantee a large percentage of Ohio residents would be watching TV f -

Indeed, that sounds like something Quint would say. RIP. This dude sounds like a badass. -
With a day or two now to gain perspective on it, this ugly loss might be the best thing for the OSU program. Time to go off the national stage for a while and get their shit together.(or at least go have a complete breakdown elsewhere in relative obscurity) This is a team with no identity. The reason it was a big deal when Beanie went down is not just that's he's good (he is), its that he is the only player on the offense with the confidence to carry the team. Without him (and until Pryor is ready to go, full time, and hopefully has somebody to throw to) they got nothing--and everybody kno

Aw, man, these last few days have just been one bummer after another. I hadn't heard about this until now. Hats off to you, Mr. Wallace. Maybe someday I'll make it all the way through Infinite Jest, but even when my endurance for 50,000 page novels sags, I've always been a fan. He was a bright guy in a world that could use a few more of those, not fewer. I liked that commencement speech that was posted. Damn, he will be missed.

The moderators say they'll follow abusive behavior to the Gates of Hell, but they won't even follow it to the cave where Sarah Palin hides from the media. I dunno, that didn't even make sense, did it? Carry on.

Meh. Speaking from experience with my kids, soccer moms can be kind of intense, but not too scary. My daughter takes skating lessons, so I have only had incidental contact with the hockey-moms at the rink, but most of them seem to watch tv in the lobby and seem disinterested in the actual hockey. You want nasty? Go find yourself a ballet-mom. No kidding, I had no idea what I was getting into when I signed my daughter up for introductory dance lessons last year. Dance-moms are are worst, hands down. They could melt Putin with a disapproving glare from 500 meters. Heck, they could proba

Ok, I'm breaking my own rule for one post. In watching just a little bit of her "interview", I was reminded of the time when I was just starting out in my career and I tried to make a huge leap from entry-level web developer at a little marketing company to basically running the show at a high-profile e-commerce site. I passed the initial interview with flying colors thanks to keen BSing ability, but the follow-up technical interview conducted by one of the lead developers remains, to this day, the single most devastatingly brutal smackdown I have ever received in my professional life. Ever

We've all spent two weeks speculating about her without her adding a single additional word beyond rehashing a speech that was mostly written before she was a candidate. Let her go have tea with Charlie Gibson. Until she has something legitimate to bring to the table, I'm done with her.

I liked their chances better before the season actually started. I'm not feeling so confident about this team right now, Beanie or no. But, then again, Tress tends to coach better as an underdog. We'll see. Boeckman just doesn't seem to have grown into his role at QB yet. Especially if Beanie is on the bench, use Pryor more to open up the offense. If it works, go with it. Let him run wild and use Saine as a receiver out of the backfield and they've got a fighting chance.

Beanie now 'doubtful' for USC game The bad news is teh Buckeyes are likely to get eaten for dinner. The good news, if you're a fan of schadenfreude, is that the Buckeye is a poisonous nut and likely to give Trojan Man a bad case of the runs, at the very least. So we've got that going for us.
