  1. See, I had the opposite reaction: thank you, Illinois, for choking for me!
  2. Tennessee obviously ate their Wheaties today. I didn't get to see any of that game, but something tells me there wasn't a lot of defense being played.
  3. It was more fun when they had 9 points after like 15 min of gametime.
  4. Wait, say that again. How far do you have Winthrop going? Then again, you may be right...
  5. All I was saying in my original point back there somewhere was how it is just interesting--using Bonds and Rose as reference points here--that what Bonds almost certainly has done which DID have a direct impact on his performance and career is seem as a somewhat lesser offense than what Rose did which is a big deal because it has a potential effect, though to my knowledge nobody has shown he was actively involved in actually rigging games. Its the comparison between the two--the concrete vs the hypothetical--and the fact that the perceived severity is the inverse of what one might expect. D
  6. Too early to be concerned. Still...that could throw a wrench into just about everybody's bracket. I'm suddenly much more interested in that game.
  7. Could be. I kind of felt that way at first, but after a few listens it started flowing smoothly for me, so I think you may be onto something about us being introduced to these songs one at a time rather than as a whole.
  8. I considered doing this for Summerteeth at one point, but I'm too lazy and don't have nearly enough live shows to pull from. In the end it was easier just to keep listening to the studio album until I warmed up to it.
  9. They need to hurry up and start the season so we have something else to talk about.
  10. I'm in a pool with 66 entries. After day one I'm already middle-of-the-pack and I didn't make any radical picks for my Final Four that are much different than what a lot of other people picked, so I'm gonna have to be perfect from here on out to have a shot. Lotta dough on the line with that many people in the pool, tho, so one can always hope.
  11. I hear ya. My kids are 4, 2, and T-minus 1 month and counting down. And I can attest that "my music" rarely gets played in the house (esp w/ the wife not being "on board" with many of my tastes), so under normal circumstances I typically play most of it in the car on the way to/from work (or on headphones while there). Lately I've had more time for listening since we're in the process of moving partway across the country and I've spent a fair amount of time alone at the new place since I started the new job (and on planes/drives going back and forth), so I've binged on music a lot more lat
  12. Maybe they didn't leave, they just got beamed on board the Mothership. You missed out, my friend.
  13. I owned Supernatural at one point. My thinking was, "Hey, I dig some Santana. (who doesn't love Abraxas?) Why not give it a shot?" Not really one of my better purchases.
  14. Yeah, I'm 12-4. Not fantastic, but no real damage done. Just a handful of upset picks that didn't pan out. No biggie. And, indeed, correctly picking Duke's first round exit makes it extra nice.
  15. I just tried wiping the dust off my copy of AGIB and re-trying it to see if the drone was still there. It is. That's funny, tho, Louie.
  16. Seems a bit on the high end to me. How are ticket retailers there about adding on extra fees? Is that a final price or a base price that will get added on to? I just bought a ticket for the Hold Steady here on Saturday night--a $15 ticket--and TM online wanted to add an additional $10 of fees, nearly doubling the price--which is remarkable considering I'd be printing my own ticket and parking is not included. Cod bless capitalism.
  17. I think there's a fair chance Pete will get in posthumously, but I don't think it will happen in his lifetime. The lifetime ban was instituted partially to use him as a warning to others--its harsh, but I don't think we'll see them back down from that. But I do wonder if he'll be granted a bit of forgiveness once he's gone. After all, if part of the Hall's job is to record the history of the game, it would be a glaring omission to go on pretending he never existed.
  18. I don't have 'em going anywhere after tonight. Beating Duke was enough for me.
  19. Good to see at least one of my upset picks panned out. This is the one, as a fan, I was really hoping for, anyway. Nice job, fellas. That was some clutch shooting there at the end.
  20. Yeah, I get that. I just like playing devil's advocate sometimes. Sometimes it seems weird to take such a hardline stance against potential harm, you know? Certainly Rose's betting didn't have the same effect on the game as the Black Sox scandal--you could make the argument that we have little or no evidence that it had any, at all. But there's something to be said for making an example of him to warn others. Like you said, its not like he didn't know the rules. (and he most certainly has acted like an ass for a couple decades now, which has only hurt him) Oh well. Them's the rules. Ga
  21. So much for that one bracket where I had Old Dominion winning it all. There's $1 I'll never get back again.
  22. So, by this logic, is gambling a more serious offense than, say, steroid use? One holds the potential to undermine the game on a large scale (via temptation to alter performance to suit ulterior motives), while the other can still be regarded as more of an individual offense.(even if it can undermine the game on a larger level if widespread) Which has more bearing one's legacy? I understand wanting to make an example out of Pete, yet on some levels the "sanctity of the game" argument becomes hard to swallow. I'd much rather see him in the hall than, say, McGuire. Chances are neither will
  23. I think Pete's HOF issues have less to do with the actual betting than the fact that we still don't know what his winning % was with his bets. These are important stats for the Hall to consider!
