  1. Joy Division - it's not a very fun / joyful subject matter that it refers to.
  2. Did you just make that one up? I'm pulling up blanks when I try to Google it.
  3. Who knew Christopher Cross could "shred" on guitar?
  4. Margaret-Tiger Rug is up now - Jeff sings a verse and harmonizes with Beck. It sort of sounds like country hopped on amphetamines.
  5. Has this thread really made it to page four with no one mentioning Limp Bizkit, which refers to a cracker covered with semen? One of the ten worst band names used by one of the ten worst bands.
  6. SBS was nominated for Best Rock Album, up against: · Daughtry - Daughtry · John Fogerty - Revival · Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace · Bruce Springsteen - Magic Foo Fighters won it.
  7. Is Bull Black Nova "Americana"?
  8. Aren't we a bit spoiled as Wilco fans? I think even people who aren't huge fans of W(TA) would still take it over 21st Century Breakdown, all things being equal... (which is likely to dominate most of the categories and probably win a few trophies, too...)
  9. I happen to like this album - it didn't kick my ass all over the place, but the mellow vibe makes for good driving music when I'm fighting traffic and my road rage meter is well into the red. And this is from someone who was never a huge fan of SBS. I think the sort of rootsy / bluegrass-lite feel is a bonus for me, also Plant is a lot lower key (i.e. mostly mannerism-free) and that also makes for a good listening experience from time to time.

  11. The point of my argument is that there are upsides to getting away from oil that have nothing to do with global warming and everything to do with geopolitics, the wars we fight, the countries we invade, the pipelines we try to build and protect, etc. I don't know about anyone who is calling for a complete halt of oil usage, either. You may be the first - congratulations.
  12. I see, so it's better to not do anything when there is an ample amount of evidence that suggests we should start taking initiatives, and better to wait 50 years until our coastal cities start to flood and every accredited scientist in the world is proven correct?
  13. If singing and playing along with the disembodied voice of a dead man recorded on crappy tape recorder constitutes getting a band back together, then I've personally jammed with Jimi Hendrix.
  14. Even if you believe global warming is bunk, is it still not a good idea to research alternative fuels? At the very least to diminish our dependence on oil-rich yet not very trustworthy (nor historically peace-loving) regimes in the Middle East and countries like Venezuela.
  15. Not that I have any qualms with giving it to Wilco, but its kind of odd that neither Radiohead nor the White Stripes merit an honorable mention.
  16. I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet, but UT did a sweet cover of Everybody Knows This is Nowhere on their final '94 tour. Both Jeff and Jay sang on it. They played it their final show, too: 05/01/94 - Mississippi Nights, St. Louis, MO No Depression/ Chickamauga/ Watch Me Fall/ Grindstone/ Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down/ Fifteen Keys/ Long Cut/ Anodyne/ New Madrid/ Slate/ Atomic Power/ Postcard/ Gun/ High Water/ Acuff-Rose/ True to Life/ We've Been Had/ Give Back the Key To My Heart/ Everybody Knows This is Nowhere/ Whiskey Bottle/ Truck Drivin' Man/ Looking for a Way Out (w/ Mike H
  17. What song(s) did you play for them? I kind of see a 6th grader responding well to I'm a Wheel for some reason.
  18. Death Cab gains an additional molecule of street cred, and some teenybopper New Moon fans will actually hear of Wilco for the first time when they watch this on MTV? http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1626689/20091119/death_cab_for_cutie.jhtml?rsspartner=rssFeedfetcherGoogle Death Cab For Cutie Channel Wilco, 'Saw' (But Not 'Twilight') On Next LP Chris Walla says the album's 'timeline is sort of getting pushed into the future' because of 'New Moon' hoopla. By James Montgomery Death Cab for Cutie already have some experience with the whole "original song for a movie" thing (by now you are s

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I think the little heart is Nels's thing when signing anything. For example: http://www.delawareonline.com/blogs/uploaded_images/100708-24ll.grandfund.rc008-748438.JPG It's pretty awesome how he signed right by the selector switch on mine. :guit
  20. Cripple Creek is up now - pretty stellar, though no Wilco this go around.
  21. This has been discussed a bit here: http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/42193-wilco-to-play-neil-young-tribute-show-in-l-a/page__view__findpost__p__1380120
  22. It seems like some of the things that Jay grew wary of towards the end of UT's run - Jeff getting increasingly more attention, becoming more of a fan favorite, etc. - would be amplified 50,000 times in a reunion situation. I don't Jay's ever been comfortable with sharing the spotlight, let alone sharing it with someone who has completely eclipsed him in every career-milestone type way you can think of. Farrar's reminded of that every interview, where he has to field questions about a UT reunion or his relationship with Tweedy, as opposed to Jeff, who rarely gets asked these things and has peop

Haha, no, I did not win the Haiku contest. This guitar was handed out on an earlier giveaway and the poor girl (a huge Wilco fan) needed the money right now to make ends meet, so she put this axe up on eBay. She needed the money, and I really needed the guitar, so it seems like the arrangement was in good standing. The guitar sounds wonderful, too. SGs are apparently known for having incredible sustain, and this is the kind of guitar you can play a note on, go out and order a pizza and come back and the note will still be ringing. I've played I'm Always in Love, She's a Jar, Spiders, ALTW
