  1. It wouldn't work on any level, I wouldn't want him kneeling before me. Unless I were General Zod - then I'd both order him to kneel before me and sing all the songs off Summerteeth.
  2. Great story, and I'm hoping for a similar response when I sheepishly tell Jeff I play his music. Think he'll get on one knee for a 37-year-old dude?

True. It's like the thin societal line that keeps everyone from tearing eachother apart.
  4. Strangely enough, there is a Blu-Ray listed on Amazon with a December 31, 2010 release date. I wonder if there is any validity to it: http://www.amazon.com/Trying-Break-Heart-Blu-Ray-Blu-ray/dp/B001GJ4TTM

See, here's what I don't get - if there's plenty of space, why did the OP and his girlfriend need to be so close to the front? Generally speaking, people claim a physical spot when the doors open and generally stay there, and this is a good thing. Imagine if EVERYONE felt they had the right to cut ahead towards the front, how much of a mess that would be. There are unwritten rules that sort of maintain order during a show, and one of those rules is everyone gets a spot to watch the show from and that is generally a static thing that doesn't change from set to set or song to song. If you were

The added benefit of getting to the venue a bit early (not even 8 hours necessarily... more like 3 for me) was getting to hear Pot Kettle Black through an open door during sound check on Sunday. Several years ago (9:30 club in DC) when me and a friend showed up early, the band was even nice enough to let a bunch of people in to see the entire soundcheck, and the band played She's a Jar, Via Chicago, Just a Kid before it was even released and several other songs. It was an incredibly cool experience, and it never would have happened had we not been off our anti-psychotic meds that day and

hahah.. it was all a bit creepy, like a scene in a David Lynch movie. I half expected Drunk Pink to tell me she was in my house right now and hand me a phone and have me call her there.
  9. Monica Lewinsky showed up at a show in NYC several years ago. Unfortunately, Wilco passed on the opportunity to cover Pink Floyd's 'Have a Cigar'.
  10. Remember when Caliber used to do those Ask Caliber style posts? That was the Golden Age of Via Chicago. I think we are in the Rusted Age now.

I also would like to add that Drunk Pink (as I fondly nickname her) had to pick the most devastating, gutwrenching moment of Poor Places to caress / scratch my lower back with her nails as a way of getting me to turn around so she could sneak past me. Any other moment, I probably would have let her past but not during goddamn Poor Places.
  12. A little, but it's a great little interview, especially this part: Q-When will you guys be heading back into the studio? A-We have a big session in January and start on the new record. We’re trying to get on the ball as fast as we can because the touring has been pretty much non-stop.
  13. Is this your audition for being a moderator around here?

There were a few weirdos last night who wormed their way to the front. One was a 50-something year old drunk lady in pink who felt like walking from the far right edge to the far left edge of the stage, touching everyone along the way. God knows why or what she was doing. Another drunk lady was screaming for "Lincoln Avenue" songs on the right end of the stage.
  15. He offers up decent analysis, but I'm not sure it applies to all the characters in the movie.
  16. Totally. When Glenn stood on his kit, he was mock furious, swearing and cussing, but it was obviously played for laughs.

On top of portraying the defanged, cuddly Wilco of The Thanks I Get, the commercials themselves had nauseatingly cute plotlines that really didn't do the band justice (or the cars, for that matter). Now, if they had used "I dreamed about killing you again last night and it felt alright to me", THAT would have made for an innerestin' ad.

  19. We were wondering if you were on your way, sorry you couldn't make it.
  20. Yeah, Pat tore through the Box Full of Letters solo like a buzzsaw in a Kleenex factory.
  21. Incredible show, so many highlights... Poor Places > Spiders, Can't Stand It, VC, Far Far Away, Nothingsever, Passenger Side, Casino Queen > Outtasite, Kamera, Country Disappeared. Hummingbird was great, too. I hadn't heard them do that full band in a while and Jeff completely nailed it, down to doing the little Hummingbird jog, with mic swinging in hand, then tossing it 15 feet into the air and catching it with one hand. It was pretty impressive, especially since it really didn't look rehearsed. It kind of captured Jeff and the band's "we can do no wrong" mentality tonight. Indeed, th

It's worth noting that there is a promo single printed for it that has probably been distributed to the radio stations that you hear playing the song: http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=484931 Note the irony in the fact that it says it's not for sale, but the person is still attempting to sell it.
  24. They sounded good, but they've never really grabbed me musically and last night I kind of felt the same way. Jeff dedicated Just a Kid to the "kids in Tortoise... those up-and-comers" which was pretty funny given they are widely regarded as a seminal band.
