Well you did also get to see them August 25th at the Troxy, which means that between the Leeds and two London gigs, Wilco has played in England more than they've played in Illinois this year.

There's a lot of great albums in that category, though. No one discusses Sgt. Peppers without mentioning the Summer of Love, the White Album mentioning the Beatles' pulling apart in four different directions, Bon Iver's For Emma mentioning the fact it was recorded in a cabin in the woods, Exile on Main St. mentioning the tax exile in France, Richard and Linda Thompson's split impacting Shoot Out the Lights. And don't get me started on Fleetwood Mac's Rumours... If YHF is another album with a well-known, oft-repeated backstory but with great music that's stood the test of time, it's in pretty

Cool! As I recall, Ken @ Wilcoworld sent out an e-mail urging fans not to spread the mp3s around, and within a few days / weeks, realizing there was no point putting the toothpaste back in the tube, the band had their own stream up.

Great setlist. That's pretty crazy about the power failure, although the conspiracy theorist in me says the venue cut the power to enforce a curfew.

It sounds like the guy had a camcorder and was shooting the entire show, not a cellphone / iPhone / small digital camera that he was shooting video with.

Backstory or no, YHF was the first album I ever downloaded off the interwebs, September 2001. I had been avidly following the Wilco drama -- the one two punch of Bennett officially leaving the band and Reprise dropping them were both stories in the Chicago Tribune that hit me in the gut. I felt what had become my favorite band was imploding before my eyes. Then of course, 9/11 rolled around and further added to my general sadness and uncertainty with the way things were headed. I had tickets to see them September 24th at the Roxy in Atlanta - would they even bother showing up? Would there stil

I half thought about attending this show when they were in Waukegan, IL, but I had a lot of work to do that weekend. Arlo Guthrie concert a family affair BY LYNN SAXBERG, THE OTTAWA CITIZENOCTOBER 29, 2009 OTTAWA — Woodstock-era folksinger Arlo Guthrie returned to Ottawa on Wednesday with close to a dozen members of his family joining him on stage in the magnificient surroundings of the Dominion Chalmers United Church. Three daughters, a son, a son-in-law and a handful of grandchildren sang and played instruments, demonstrating the prodigious musical talent that appears to run in the G

What you see as brave and poetic, I see as lazy, not fleshed out and half-assed (from a character development / dramatic standpoint). There was mention in interviews with Jonze that the script was sort of a living breathing entity up to the day they were shooting, and that they were continually throwing new things in on the fly, even some of the actors getting involved in writing dialogue, and to me a lot of that shows. I loved the first third of the movie and thought it was wonderful, when there was very little dialogue and all the moments and beats were well-paced and hit me emotionally. Eve

I like it when they make a fetish out of album titles, too: -

Exactly. I didn't need this movie to be packaged in a neat little bow, or even follow a traditional narrative arc. I appreciate what the movie attempted to do as far as portraying Max's inner turmoil. However, I don't think the movie succeeded - I don't really feel I knew that much more about Max at the end of the movie than at the beginning. I don't feel Max really learned that much more about himself, either. There wasn't a really hard won epiphinal moment in the movie, where Max comes to some important self-realization in the process of all this. A lot of the lessons Max does learn are sor

How long before someone starts comparing the mods to Hitler and VC to Nazi Germany? I won't feel whole as a human being until someone somewhere does that.

The band's official cutoff for petitions is actually 5,000 replies to a message board forum thread. Then and only then will they do whatever it takes to release material in any format that fans demand.

This thread isn't even a drop in the ocean of embarassment that is VC.

Wasn't CBC Q where Billy Bob Thornton had a meltdown? God, that was riveting stuff.

I have a Wilco the Shirt without an iron on, but with Alfred as "the fan" on the back. I'd never wear it out in public for fear of having random strangers call me Alfred.

It's both the best album and one of the worst albums you've heard all year then, huh?

You tell 'em, brotha. If you can't stand the Wilcheat, stay out of the Wilkitchen!
