  1. I wonder if he showed up in a raincoat wandering around the Guthrie yard mumbling to himself.
  2. Apparently he was murdered by his former manager who was eager to cash in on an insurance policy: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/news/hendrix-murdered-by-his-manager-says-former-aide-1693583.html
  3. There's a little interview between Jeff and Fred Armisen where he talks about Googlebating himself: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=3425517
  4. Ticketmaster doesn't just want to monopolize ticket sales, they want to monopolize reselling too, dammit: http://news.digitaltrends.com/news-article/20877/ticketmaster-finds-another-way-to-cut-out-scalpers Of course, this hurts the scalpers, but it also hurts anyone unlucky enough to buy tickets from Ticketmaster who has legitimate reasons they can't attend the show and just wants to sell the tickets for face or give them to a friend.
  5. That seems like a case of good cop, bad cop then. The artist wants to charge a higher overall ticket price, but doesn't want to appear greedy. So they charge a lower price and beef up the fees. Ticketmaster knows they will get a majority of the complaints, but the company clearly isn't that concerned with winning any popularity contests with consumers.
  6. Obama's administration may block the Ticketmaster / Live Nation merger. One more reason he's The One: http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1903447-1,00.html
  7. Purchased a Pixies ticket for one of the Aragon Ballroom shows this morning. Here's how the fees broke down for a single GA ticket: Ticket Price - US $44.75 Facility Charge - US $2.75 Convenience Charge - US $7.50 Additional Taxes - US $0.38 SUBTOTAL US - $55.38 Tickets/Items US $55.38 Order Processing Fee - US $5.60 TicketFast Delivery - US $2.50 TOTAL CHARGES - US $63.48 That's $18.35 in fees for a $44.75 ticket. That's nearly half the ticket price in fees. Ticketmaster's monopoly has annoyed the hell out of me over the years, and I know I'm preaching to the choir here. God know
  8. Like Kyle (solace) said, if you convert the wavs to Apple Lossless, you won't lose any quality (why it's called "lossless") and you will have some compression. I think the compression ratios between Flacs and Apple Lossless are about the same, too, both around 60%.
  9. Seems to be this: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/09/09/apple_to_debut_itunes_lp_alongside_launch_of_itunes_9.html Apple to debut iTunes LP alongside launch of iTunes 9 By Sam Oliver Published: 11:55 AM EST iTunes LP, likely the official name of Apple's "Cocktail" project designed to spur sales of full albums, is expected to be officially unveiled at today's media event along with iTunes 9. A new listing on iTunes for a deluxe edition of Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited," as discovered by AppleInsider reader Cameron Phillips, has revealed both new products. The description s

    Wilco Vinyl

One of my happiest childhood memories - indeed, before you were born - was when my older brother checked out the Blue Album from the public library and we spend months listening to it (it was way overdue). It was the first time I heard the vast majority of those songs, and to this day I still think of hearing the Blue Album on vinyl when I hear 'Old Brown Shoe'. But thank you for the "welcome".
  12. I honestly think Beatles for Sale is massively underrated and a key transitional album. Every Little Thing, What You're Doing, I'll Follow the Sun, and No Reply are all stellar. I Don't Want to Spoil the Party is totally underrated (love the middle 8), Eight Days a Week can go head to head with just about any of their early singles. I'm a Loser and Baby's in Black are good songs, too. A few great covers like Rock and Roll Music and Words of Love (amazing harmonies). A ton of great Rickenbacker 12-string all over this - the Byrds were huge fans and started a band because of it. Yes, it also

    Wilco Vinyl

I've been somewhat obsessed with why the Summerteeth vinyl sounds better since scoring my copy this weekend. Is it the so-called "vinyl warmth"? Is it a different mix? Something was clearly different. So using the USB output port on my turntable, I ripped Via Chicago as a wav file to my laptop to do side by side comparisons to the CD track. The biggest, clearest difference is the compression, or lack thereof, it seems. As we all know, Summerteeth is ridiculously loud - anyone who has had Can't Stand It come on in a iPod mix after a much quieter song can attest to this. It's like being woken
  14. I think the nature of the song is Odd Job Jack's inner thoughts, but that's about as much as I can figure out. I vaguely recall when this was aired (I think it started off as a webisode...?). Most may already be aware of this but Jeff also provides the voice for Lil' God in the animated show Lil' Bush. And I thought that was a lil' funny, not a lot.
  15. Thanks Mike, and my inner stats geek definitely thanks you.
  16. Mr. mpolak21, can we see the point totals for the top 20? I'm curious how much of a lead the songs had on eachother, i.e. if Poor Places was an overwhelming #1 or if it barely sneaked past Ashes, etc.
  17. Did he notice that the light had changed?
  18. There is always this... Scroll down to around midway through the page to Inner Voice - you can click on it to download the mp3 for free. This is the episode it was in -- unfortunately, it just has a preview clip, not the full episode:
  19. Revolution 9 must have been a hoot under those circumstances.
  20. That sounds quite believable. I always thought that Pearl Jam's name was essentially a joke about seminal fluid, given that they were the product of Mother Love Bone. The band denies this, even to the point that they made up a total lie about Eddie Vedder's great grandmother making a Pearl Jam.
  21. I wonder if the band Phoenix rose from the ashes of another band. That would kind of make sense.
  22. I glossed right past that. I guess 'ashes', 'alt.country' and something regarding how influential / seminal / stalwart / seaworthy UT was are all mandatory.
