  1. Sorry I don't have much advice for that. I used Audacity, which is free software, and sang through my 45W keyboard amp. I ran a line out into my Line 6 Guitar Port. This is my first attempt at digital recording besides a Cream cover I did as an instrumental.
  2. Holy cow! It's looks like some douchebag has made off with J's prized guitars. Incredibly freakin' lame.
  3. Thanks alot, yes it was me on everything.
  4. Hmm I guess I'm somewhat surprised people have liked it, so far. I posted it on guitar forum I visit and didn't get much response, my guess is it's not metal enough. I'm new to digital home recording so I've been experimenting the last few days. It's kind of fun. Thanks
  5. Okay feel free to crucify me, or laugh or whatever. It's just something I threw together for fun a few mornings ago, It's a cover of When The Roses Bloom Again. I was kind of going for an Eddie Spaghetti vibe. http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_pl...;q=hi&ref=2
  6. People rave about that GFS stuff but I've never heard what they can do. But for the money it's worth looking in to.
  7. +1 on the Faded stuff, most play and sound great. All mine needed was a fret dress and it was ready to go. I don't have it anymore, I sold it after I bought my '61 reissue, but it was a great guitar.
  8. I'd start at the beginning, get Ride The Tiger and work forward. They are one of those bands where listening to their musical progression is a very cool thing. Not that you couldn't do that later but I feel it will yield greater musical joy to check their stuff out in chronological order. YLT has a great catalog.
  9. I'm sure some here already know this but for those that don't. www.guitarbt.com It's a large library of classic rock and metal bt's.
  10. Of all the Korean stuff made these days Tokai makes the nicest Gibson style copies, so they say. People complain the pups are muddy but I think that's what you get with any budget model guitar. Easy enough to fix. People are saying good things about GFS pups and these can be bought real cheap, less than $100 for both the neck and bridge. They make some pups modeled after the original PAF that is supposed to be great. I don't have any hard core experience with either Tokai or GFS but the guys at the guitar forum I frequent do. Most there are the "modder" types so they usually have the scoop
  11. One more thread jack . Another semi hollow that can be a great guitar is the Tokai 335 copies.
  12. The problems I had had with mine and what others have complained about are with the new and used recent Korean made Casino's. People rave about the construction of the Artcore. But most that rave about these guitars are "modders". They usually only use the body as a platform and completely replace the electronics and the hard parts, bridges and tuners etc. The Dot is Chinese made and reviews have not been favorable. Most prefer the higher end Korean made semi hollow Epi models like the Sheraton. You may want to check out Musicians Friend from time to time. A few weeks back they had a sa
  13. Not similar at all, especially in the Casino. I'd stay aways from the new Epi Casino, I had one and it was pretty bad. The pups were weak and not very P-90-esque and the guitar had a rattle I could never find. Read the reviews on Musicians Friend or Harmony, most will share my opinion. It sounds like you're after a semi-hollow body. However, so you know the SG I posted is only $699 and is a real USA Gisbon, the P-90 in these scream. The reviews on these are great. However it is somewhat limited being a one pup guitar.
  14. What was a 15 year old metal kid to do . We did a lot of stupid stuff with nice guitars back then and beyond. During the Nirvana craze I traded a 1984 Gibson Explorer for one of those Univox Mosrite copies Kurt was fond of. I'm pretty happy with my current collection. Affordable guitars are much better now than before. All of my Fender's are vintage reissue imports, though some have been modded with USA CS parts. My Gibby's are as good as any I've previously owned except were much more affordable. I doubt I'll part with the guitar I have now unless something really gets to me. If I get anyt
  15. I know what you mean about wanting previously owned guitars back. Sadly I've sold and traded off some pretty nice stuff. Back in the 80's I had several vintage pieces that I really miss now. Including a 1964 Strat that me and a friend ruined by scalloping during the Ynqwie craze.
  16. I agree that certain woods exhibit different tonal qualities, but like you I'm not sure that more wood equates to more or better tone. The purists tend to swear to it but I'm not convinced. Only because the guitar's I've personally owned have proved otherwise. For example my '61 SG reissue resonates and sustains every bit as much as my Les Paul. The SG has significantly less wood. However the tone is definitely different. IMO with guitars and gear I think finding what you like is the most important thing. I'm done listening to people tell me what gear they think is thebest other than for the
  17. I like all of them. I head out to Borders to grab as many as I can once a month. Usually I buy. Guitar World, every variety. Guitar One, DVD, Acoustic, Legends etc. I'm not big on Guitar Player because the don't have regular monthly sheet music. The others, the Brit mags etc. I only buy these if it has a feature I'm interested in.
  18. Personally I don't think it makes a huge tone difference, not enough to have back problems. IMO it's a weight issue. Les Paul geeks will argue that unless a LP is '59 Standard specs, long tenon, maple cap, PAFs etc. it isn't a REAL LP. I say bah to that. IMO the largest single tone factor with electric guitars are the pickups.

  20. I bought one a few weeks ago and haven't had much time to experiment. It took me a while to do anything but screech. I did manage a cool version of Beck's Bolero, it was the only song I could think of at the time that was ebow friendly.
  21. Not usually as heavy because the body didn't feature the carved maple cap or any cap for that matter, with it's slightly contoured body it was more like an SG. The Paul was a budget model Gibson akin to the Sonex and Spirit. Not a bad thing just not a Les Paul, replacing Les with The was definitely some creative marketing. They made a The Paul II that featured an arched top that was a little more like a LP and similar to todays Vintage Mahogany models. The Paul is really a single cut Les Paul Special by a different name. Back to the weight thing. LP's can be pretty light depending on the con
  22. Can't say I'm all that sad he died, not nearly as sad as I am that he was as tortured as he was. Not nearly as sad as I am that drugs and mental illness stamped out his music career and creativity. By all accounts much of his life was pretty bad even if recent reports mention he had recently felt better. Sometimes death sets people free, IMO this is one of those times.
  23. So you listened to a concert from outside the venue? Through a wall? Was the sound muffled? That's dedication, I don't think I would subject myself to that.
