  1. Aha - I didn't need to know about the underwear. LOL. Anyhow - I guess I had high expectations - I was thinking Devil in The White City. But the Churchill book was not that. I think you are right though. It's a look behind the curtain. And you find out who was sleeping with who along the way.

Agree with you that there was sometimes too much inside information.

And it's a tough task - there is so much written about Churchill/WWII/the Blitz that it is hard to come up with something fresh.

  2. The Camden, Maine show from July 3, 2000 has been added today to Nugs.net

Most notable about this show is that it features the first band performances of Ashes Of American Flags & I’m The Man Who Loves You, if Setlist.FM is to be believed. The liner notes are not showing up on the app right now.

Also notable that it was my first Wilco show!

I have a recording of it but I'm guessing this one is better. I'll give it a listen.

Rhino has announced a reissue of Lou Reed’s 1989 album, New York. The 3xCD/DVD/2xLP deluxe edition arrives September 25.

New York: Deluxe Edition features the first-ever remastered recordings of the album, 26 unreleased studio and live tracks, and a DVD of the long out-of-print “The New York Album” concert film, which features Reed performing the album in Montreal at the Theatre St. Denis. The reissue also includes a hardcover book produced by Laurie Anderson, Don Fleming, Bill Ingot, Jason Stern, and the late Hal Willner, with new liner notes by music journalist David Fricke and essays by archivist Don Fleming.

The Grammy-nominated New York, Reed’s 15th solo album and first for Sire Records, featured the singles “Dirty Blvd.” and “Busload of Faith.” Read the Pitchfork feature “These Are the Best Lou Reed Books.”

  4. I read that a while back. I'll tell you what I thought about it after you are finished.

Analogman - love your take on The Splendid and the Vile.

I'll say, I liked it quite a bit.  I appreciate that it was focused one a single year and that it focused on the details and the people rather than just the big picture.

  5. Inspired by my own comment in the Grateful Dead thread, what was your first concert?

Mine was the Jerry Garcia Band in Boston 40 years ago tonight.

If nothing else, I heard Tangled Up in Blue for the first time and bought Blood on the Tracks the next day.

  6. I do like the new one Quickies.  (And yes, it's 28 songs over 46 minutes with the shortest being 17 seconds and the longest being 2:35.)

I'm mixed on the 50 Song Memoir.  I think it has some of their best stuff ever but it also has some filler.

  7. From the Replacements FB page:

Following up last year’s DEAD MAN’S POP, PLEASED TO MEET ME (DELUXE EDITION) will be available as a 3 CD/1LP set and digitally on October 9! Pre-order your copy and listen to six previously unreleased “rough mixes,” including “Alex Chilton,” here: https://Rhino.lnk.to/pleasedtomeetme
Several exclusive bundles can also be pre-ordered now at www.Rhino.com, which include a variety of limited edition items including a t-shirt, tote bag, iron-on patch, bumper sticker, placemat, and a cassette featuring a previously unreleased interview with Paul Westerberg recorded just before the release of the album.
  8. I read that a while back. I'll tell you what I thought about it after you are finished.

I bought a bunch of books recently. It may be a while before I get to them.

I'm about halfway through the Larson book so I'll check back.

I'd love to hear what you think.  My dad is a big Churchill guy and thought it was well done.
