  1. It was a great night! I thought Mick, Charlie and, in particular Ronnie, were great. I'm a Keith guy. He had a terrible night playing wise and looked terrible. Hope it was just a one night thing.

Calvino - the songs you chose as highlights - so interesting! The deepest cuts of the night.

Mick Jagger commenting on Ed Burke - what?

  2. In what way(s) are they a nostalgic act?

They played albums that were 22 and 16 years old straight through at SS, they sell merch based around their most well known album, setlists on recent tours were heavily concentrated on material from their 2 best known albums with new material mixed in dismissing about a decade's worth of newer music, they don't play developing markets anymore - just the places where they can make money, they reissue deluxe versions of their albums. Also, as seen previously in this thread their fans would rather hear their old songs rather than their new ones. That's off the top of my head.

  3. Maybe they figure those seats are going to sell for that much regardless, and accepting that reality, why should a re-seller on Stubhub be the one to make the money and not the band?

I get what you are trying to say but I don't agree - they are pricing most people out of their show by setting a $750 ticket price. There are people like me who would pull that seat for $100 or even $150 and not think about selling it because sitting in the first row to see Wilco is amazing. I wouldn't resell it.

I worked a long time ago in the concert industry and back then we paid the band a fee then it was up to the promoters pricing the tickets. I don’t think the band can put a ceiling on the prices of the tickets but I believe it’s the promoter/venue maximizing their return and not lining the bands pockets.. I might be wrong though ‍♂

I don't buy that the band doesn't have input into the pricing. Jeff has mentioned in past interview their decision to move from $30 tickets to $50.

  4. If I take my (vinyl) copies of Warm and Warmer to Solid Sound will they let me swap them for the snazzy new double LP with better packaging and bonus track?

Yes - they did say they are offering that which is really generous.

  5. Long time Radiohead fan. I stand by the belief that they have the best b sides and non album tracks of an band with Wilco not far behind. Their output in 94-00 was unbelievable. I was fortunate to see them twice on the ok computer tour

blasphemy here, I don't feel that way about Wilco. To me Wilco has two gems in Cars Can't Escape and Magazine, but it falls off from there. Springsteen and Petty non album/b sides are great.

  6. So they going to push three years since the last Chicago show then? Can’t imagine they’d wait until 2020.

Given Jeff's August solo (or TWEEDY? looks like it is back to solo?) show in Evanston they likely can't announce anything until after that and midwest isn't on the docket at this point.

  7. I'm cool with there being no shows near me for now. They are obviously doing Midwest/West another time. Can't be everywhere always.

I also think the password for these presales is interesting: Casino Queen. Not referencing a new album. In fact referencing their oldest material.

  8. Now that is a great idea (that will likely never happen). I’m struggling to think of any artist that does that besides Uncle Neil.

REM's fantastic New Adventures in Hi-Fi was almost entirely recorded at soundchecks.

  9. Great recap by Paul as usual. I was happy to be able to make this last show of the tour. The Warm/Warmer songs might not get played in any serious way for a while and they are too good not to make the drive.

The observation about Jeff seeming happier to talk than play is on point, but when he played he hit his marks. His guitar playing was incredible, he nailed all the lyrics and, even while professing to have caught a cold that day, you couldn't hear it in his voice. While this tour may have been long, a well rehearsed Jeff is a real treat to see. There just aren't many performers at this caliber.

We heard some nice seldom played solo songs like Dawned, Ashes, and Impossible even if those, especially the latter, are frequently on a Wilco setlist. My 33rd proper Jeff solo show and the first time I've seen him do Impossible Germany solo for example. On each, there was an amused look on Jeff's face when he was approaching the Nels Cline guitar takeover part of the song which I really enjoyed observing.

I think the 'send more Warmer records', while likely said with the best of intentions, moved Jeff into the a less positive head space. I don't get yelling out "Jay Bennett" at a show, but half of that interaction "was you, half was me" - Jeff had 99% of the audience on his side and it is too bad that a few comments took the atmosphere to a real low.

One line in Jeff's songs that always hits me is: "The best life never leaves your lungs" and I think that was a good way to end a tour in Jay's hometown and in support of two fantastic records heavy on mortality lyrics.

  10. Any rumors about when the wider release of Warmer will occur?

In addition to Solid Sound, Bbop reported the following from the Chattanooga show in his write up:

"he also took a moment to comment on how they had pressed 5,000 copies for Record Store Day because they thought it would be nice for people to actually go out to an independent record store and buy a record, but then "everybody complained (about not being able to get a copy)," Jeff said. "Oh, I'm so sorry we conservatively estimated how many people would buy our record. ... Didn't you hear that nobody buys records anymore?" Then he conceded what those who didn't manage to track down a copy this weekend surely were hoping to hear — that Warmer will be available more widely eventually, likely packaged with Warm. The exact quote from Jeff: "Warm and Warmer belong together, and they'll probably be out together at some point.""

  11. For those of us lucky enough to score a copy...it's weird only having it on Vinyl, right? I would like to listen to it on my commute/at work but it is on my turntable at home! Of course, I'm sure, smarter people than I have converted it to digital by now...

It will be interesting to see what the Warm + Warmer package ends up looking like. Will it include additional tracks? Will it be Warmest?
