  4. It's a very interesting history behind this record, with Peter Buck of Athens housing the band at his place and reducing some of the production costs, then the overall sound of the album going against the prevalent loudness of nineties grunge all recompensated at the very end with the CD resulting in a huge sales success. An exemplary case study from beginning to end, a jewel and a fundamental album for decades to come.
  5. Thanks, for some reason I was thinking of the devil, it's Satan Your Kingdom.
  6. Great news, great album. My favourite tracks are the devil song, coalminers and Moonshiner, but the whole CD from beginning to end it's a pleasure to listen to, it sets a mood and an atmosphere. I'm planning on buying the vinyl as soon as it releases in may.
  7. A few years ago I visited the Polish American Museum in Downtown Chicago. It was really interesting. I remember some of the exhibits offered information on Lithuanian history.
  8. "-And there's bass player Pete, always fast on his feet No home team, then for sure He stays fast and loose but if he had to choose... -It'd be the Washington Senators" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y93iXsge35Q
  9. Multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone will perform alongside Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M. during a rendition of Big Star's 1974 album Third (Sister Lovers). The event occurs tomorrow during this year's South by Southwest and features a stellar line-up of musicians. For more details, visit Big Star Third's website at www.bigstarthird.com or read this brief article at Spinner: http://www.spinner.c...tar-third-sxsw/
  10. Great news that these are being re-released on vinyl. A bit pricey though.
  11. Nice to hear they visited Croatia, although I would have loved to see them play in Belgrade, I hope the band had their fair share of burek. Did any local band open the show?
  12. This was mentioned earlier in the discussion (see post #20). In a related topic, I bought New Multitudes today. I'm really enjoying it.
  13. This is the only UT album you will ever need.. Eventually you´ll buy them all... or not. Enjoy!
  14. It's much a Wilco song as much as it is Bragg's. This, however, had been posted before: http://viachicago.or...ilco-song-ever/ In any case it's a nice upbeat song I agree.
  15. Woody Guthrie’s Back Pages: A Q&A With Jim James, Jay Farrar, Will Johnson and Anders Parker By Evan Schlansky March 9th, 2012 at 7:45 am American Songwriter http://www.americansongwriter.com/2012/03/woody-guthries-back-pages-a-qa-with-jim-james-jay-farrar-will-johnson-and-anders-parker/
  16. There's an interview Billy Bragg gave to Billboard magazine, I'm not sure if this is news here, but Bragg told the magazine that the initial sessions with Wilco spawned 47 songs.
  17. This movie features a lot of Icelandic country music. I'm not into any the the music they export (Bjork, Sigur Ros) but ever since I heard these local bands in this film I have taken an interest in their country music.
  18. There's a mention of Uncle Tupelo here: http://new-vinyl.blogspot.com/2012/02/record-store-day-5-april-21-2012-rsd12.html

  21. Two foreign movies that have been likened to The Godfather, the first is Mesto Vstrechi Izmenit Nelzya from 1979's Soviet Union and the second is Denmark's Pusher, whose trilogy was released between 1996 and 2005.
  22. I stayed away from the Baseball Project, for a long time, the reason is, I don't care much about the sport so I was reluctant to listen to this music. I was wrong. I have yet to find a song I don't like on "High and Inside". Literally, it rocks. 1976 has a beautiful riff. Fair Weather Fans is very upbeat (I like the female vocals here), Don't Call Them Twinkies is a rocker of the finest class while Tony (Boston's Chosen Son) has a darkness that reminded me of Nick Cave's songs. Here Lies Carl Mays is a slow ballad that makes a perfect closer to the album. I like the lyrics of Twilight of M
