  3. At precisely 10:00 there were no tickets available for the WXPN pre-sale. How may do you think they actually make available - less than 10?

WXPN & Live Nation totally crapped the bed on this one. There was nothing on the Live Nation site that would explain what had to be done (you just go there & there are no tickets available- I was there at ten, had abother screen open to the WXPN website too)...which was you had to go to the WXPN & go through a link there...that is a link that never appeared...

I was on the phone with XPN before 10:00 this morning & they assured me that a link would appear on their home page at 10:00 a.m.. It didn't. It was a five star mess with their phones totally tied up with angry calls from other folks who were having no luck. They said that too many people were trying to access their site at once, & that Live Nation was supposedly providing the link that didn't happen...or at least didn't happen for most folks. I refreshed the page constantly while at the same time calling them over & over...finally got through after 15 minutes & a manager emailed me a link to get tickets...when I got there all the orchestra & pit tickets were gone. Total crap left.

I did talk to Live Nation today & they said that the three pre-sales only involved some of the best tickets & that plenty of great seast will be available at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. So I'll be driving an 1 & 1/2 hours round trip & waiting in line for a couple of hours (since "Drake" tickets go on sale the same day- ugh!) to see if I can upgrade. Right now I've got tickets in Row V (20th row), section 100, seats 1-4 (closest to the middle)...so not bad, but I think I can do better, and am willing to try to make that happen.

I wouldn't be in this mess in the first place if the good folks at the official Wilco website had actually sent me an email about the pre-sale. I've gotten other ones from them for other pre-sales. There was nothing in my spam, or trash, no email whatsoever from them about this show. Oh well...onward & upward for the next round!!

  4. This got me thinking how I found out about it. I scrolled through my email and I see that the email came to me on 3/27 at 5:51Pm, from Wilco Ticketing. I'm not sure whether it came from Front Gate or just from signing up on Wilcoworld. Can't hurt to do both, plus anything else you can think of (Facebook, Twitter) Hope this helps.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm signed up with both, I don't know how my particular ball got dropped...but it's Wilco ticketing that sends out the emails. Oh well...still got 20th row tickets, on the side, but closest to the middle on the side...and maybe I can get something better at the other pre-sale, or when they go on regular sale...worth trying...&...I also signed up with a second email address to both Front Gate & Wilcoworld...that ought to do it for the rest of the east coast dates...

  5. It was the Front Gate presale (at 10:00 EDT) before the Avett Bros presale (at 12:15 EDT).

Wow that totally sucks! I've been signed up with them, precisely for this very reason, & never heard the first thing about this.

I would have loved to have known about it! I'd have been there at 10:00...on the phone with them now to find out about how to not have this happen int the future.

  6. Got two, trying to get some for kids...

How are you getting tickets before any known pre-sale?

I don't believe there is a password. Just sign up at Wilco Ticketing.

There is a presale for the Avetts at noon today, in case you get shut out there.

You still need to sign up and the site is a little glitchy, so I would review it before noon. Details below.

Below is the presale information for the following show scheduled to go on sale, Wednesday March 28, at 12 p.m. local market time:

7/21 - Susquehanna Bank Center (Camden, NJ) - XPoNential Festival

300 Res. Seats - single day tickets ONLY

    All Will Call

To purchase tickets please go here:http://tixx1.artistarena.com/theavettbrothers

    Username: theavettbrothers

    Password: wxpn

THANKS!!! They sold out lightning fast!! I got Section 100 seats V1-V4. Right now only me & one other person are going from my area. These are will call only tickets, so it will be very difficult to get them via ticket brokers. 4 ticket limit. If anyone here wants to be on a waiting list for my two, potential, extra tickets, personal message me here, or email me @ "HareDurga@yahoo.com".

I can't gurantee someone here won't use them, but they may be available & I'd MUCH rather they go, at cost of course, to a true fan.

  9. Wilco occasionally sounds like various eras of The Beatles...but more so they feel like The Beatles to me. So both dodging the question & speaking in Beatlese...not an exact science, but a rough roadmap...

If Uncle Tupelo is like earlier era Beatles ("Please Please Me", "With The Beatles", "A Hard Days Night" & "Beatles For Sale") where their roots are on display at the same time they are reshaping things, then "A.M." is the bridge between the past & future- meaning it's essentially most like their version of "Help"- elements of the past are there, but it's not only improved, it's expanded into areas that are about to take off into realms previously unanticipated & unimagined. "Help" is my fave early Beatles album, but from "Rubber Soul" onwards I couldn't pick a fave. I prefer "A.M." to any Uncle Tupelo & to the best Son Volt (I'm much less of a Son Volt/Jay F. fan...& much more of a Jay B. fan) & it'd either be "Help", or whatever other later early era fave you'd like that came after the first couple ("Please Please Me" & "With The Beatles")

"Being There" is where things become pretty much "Rubber Soul" worthy, and like "Rubber Soul" there are still some kinds of elements of the earlier work there, but it's morphed and/or morphing in a major manner, & it exists alongside totally new vistas of wonder...it could also be viewed as an amalgamation of "Help" & "Rubber Soul"...

"Summerteeth", "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" & "A Ghost Is Born" are all albums I, generally speaking, tend to prefer to the first two. With "Summerteeth" being maybe more "Revolver" than "Rubber Soul", but either one works & then full blown next step into "Sgt. Pepper", or "Revolver"/"Sgt. Pepper" with "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"... & then "A Ghost Is Born" probably feels a bit more like "The Beatles (The White Album)", but you can also toss in the other non-Pepper '67 Psychedelic era works (since The White Album still carries some of that feel as well) collected on "Magical Mystery Tour" & the loose tracks from before & around the time of The White Album. The main point being that The Beatles later era music was not the same as the early era because they were shot through an extraordinary prism of changes, and Wilco's sound had the same thing occur.

My personal favorite era of Wilco is the most recent trio of albums, & these feel, & occasionally sound, essentially like the later era Beatles of "The Beatles (The White Album)", "Let It Be"/"Get Back" & "Abbey Road"...if pressed I'd put "The Whole Love" as my fave, "Wilco (The Album)" as my second fave & "Sky Blue Sky"in third...but...a caveat...like The Beatles albums, my favorite Wilco album is mostly whichever one I'm listening to. I could generally say that "The Whole Love" is pretty much at the top & that "A.M.", while still great, is probably, usually, at the bottom...but keep in mind the distance between top & bottom (let alone anywhere in between there) is very little indeed- they are all great works.

Though I didn't include "Kicking Television: Live In Chicago" & examined just their studio albums (& not even the non-studio works- which are numerous & great- like The Beatles on the two volumes of Past Masters...wish Wilco had a similar collection, or collections...), let me just say that I think Wilco is the best live band on the planet right now, and that this album is a great example of that. My fave live event ever was probably The Beatles rooftop concert from Jan. '69 & that material on "Let It Be"/"Get Back" is a large part of why I'd contend that's it's probably the most underrated album ever. The now classic already live double from Wilco is as great a live album as has ever been released, bar none.

  10. From another Via Chicago thread:

"I have a Google alert set up for Solid Sound 2012 and just got a link to an interview with Joe Thompson, the head of Mass MoCA. It's a pretty long but interesting article, about the economic realities of the museum and the impact of the Solid Sound Festival, etc., but buried within the article is this little nugget:

'Wilco is coming back to play a concert this summer in late July or early August.''

That's the first I've heard of any specific timeframe information. We know they'll be at Forecastle on July 15 and at a Swedish festival on August 10, so I guess we should stay on the alert for maybe some northeast shows after Forecastle."

And...From a mid-March post on facebook from Wilco's official page there...

Pam Fradkin When will you be at Mass MoCA?

Wilco still working on Mass MoCA date. hope to have that for you soon....

  12. i know someone already got to at least one of these, but in case anyone is still looking for them, i ripped both in 192kbps CBR mp3. here's the link to the whole collection, and you can pick out the individual folders from there.

Thanks again, as I am working my through these, but a few heads ups as there are actually four shows with missing tracks...

    1) On the show from Tuscon 6-18-09, there are 3 tracks missing #3-"I'm The Man Who Loves You", #11-"Poor Places", & #24-"Handshake Drugs".

    2) On the show From Tulsa 5-8-11, there are 2 tracks missing #21- "Heavy Metal Drummer" & #23- "I Got You (At The End Of The Century)"

    3) On the show from Prague 9-28-10, there is 1 track missing #20- "Handshake Drugs". And it's worth noting that track #6- "One Wing" took incredibly long to download & a few tries to get it to work- just an FYI.

    4) On the show from Seattle 2-10-10, there is at least 1 track missing, what would be #7- "One Wing"...and...between #9-"Pot Kettle Black" & #10-"Handshake Drugs" there was supposed to have been a version of "Happy Birthday"- maybe it's on there under one of those songs, I haven't listened to the show yet.

Any chance of getting these up there? I assume you had them, but that during the huge task of doing all the downloading that got lost in the shuffle. Thanks!!

  13. I have a Google alert set up for Solid Sound 2012 and just got a link to an interview with Joe Thompson, the head of Mass MoCA. It's a pretty long but interesting article, about the economic realities of the museum and the impact of the Solid Sound Festival, etc., but buried within the article is this little nugget:

That is VERY exciting! We were just discussing this on the facebook Wilco page. At last something for the east coast...well we knew they were doing a show there, just no idea when...I'll be happy once tickets have gone on sale & I've got mine...and...once the rest of the east coast shows get announced!!

  14. Thanks!! I just downloaded them! Anyone know about the downloads from the "Sunken Treasure" DVD? That didn't work...maybe I'll email the good folks at WilcoWorld myself about that one...if I don't hear anything here first that is...if I don't hear & I hear anything useful, I'll certainly post it here...thanks & Blessings!

  15. Thanks, all. I should have known if I asked it here, eventually every album will get a vote! :-D

I think I will start with Anodyne.

@Analogman- I am a Mennonite when it comes to downloading music or torrents off the interwebs. But perhaps if you have time you can let me know where I can find UT albums to listen to for free?

Truth is, it's easier to spend money and have things sent to me. (Maybe this is also why I am broke.) I am a dork and plan to buy CDs rather than itunes download so I can look at the liner notes and have a tactile experience. (Not hip enough to own a turn table to avail of the upcoming UT rereleases and 7" boxed set.)

    (null)

Spotify is an easy place to hear all the albums streaming.

BTW I'd go with "Anodyne" too. It's my favorite & close to where things went with "A.M."- though I prefer "A.M." (& prefer "A.M." to "Trace" by Son Volt as well for that matter).

I can say, without hesitation, that it's worth seeking out the non-Wilco cousin projects...the Uncle Tupelo & Loose Fur albums being the primary ones (most Tweedy action), followed by the Golden Smog albums & the one by The Minus Five ("Down With Wilco")- some Tweedy action.

After that there's some high points of the Jay Bennett solo albums (you can make a pretty great "best of" CD-R), and while I don't yet own anything by The Autumn Defense, or Laurie & John, I can say that I've heard them & I'm very impressed. They are right up my alley as well. Finally Nels Cline is one of my favorite musicians ever, and he has a vast catalog of both solo work & guest work on others albums. I've totally dig what I've heard, but haven't had as much time to dig into the whole shebang just yet...very intrigued & looking forward to hearing more in the future though. Wilco may work off the pivot of Jeff Tweedy, and that is primary, but it has been, and is, a truly talented collective of talent.

  16. Yes, the first one if the single b-side version. Not sure about the origin of the second version, but it sounds like a demo.

My bigger question is...and I'm thinking that you're the man who is most likely to know this...what is the version that is on the Japanese import version of "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"?

  17. MIght I add that I'm not a "completist" either, well not in the severe sense...however I do have a passionate/obsessive nature...and getting all the non- regular release material is something I'm working on...

as well as lots of great live stuff from each era/tour...

and compiling "deluxe" versions of each album with all the lost/extra non-regular release material- which relates lots to the first point here...

Trying to finish up "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"- easily a regular release, then another album & then some of extras & this is the final sticking point for me...

  18. I'm a recovering Beatlemaniac (if pressed & I had to choose a fave, they'd still be my first choice), and as I've said before, I love Wilco partly because they most certainly often sound like various different eras of Beatles, but much more so because they feel like The Beatles...in that they are mind bendingly eclectic, but they always sound like themselves as well...and while they have influences a-plenty that I adore, they don't sound derivative, they transcend their influences.

I love McCartney, both with The Beatles & solo. I've seen him fairly recently...in '09 in Boston, great seats at Fenway Park & the threat of not knowing if/when he'd be near, or still as great, forced me into a stadium situation, but...like I said we had great seats & it was Fenway (my fave baseball stadium)...then I saw him in much better circumstances in '10 in hockey arenas in Toronto & Pittsburgh, again with killer seats, and he was amazing again.

He's still often amazing, but can have some off moments that I've heard...and the 2011 tour was all huge stadiums...thought about Yankee Stadium, had great seats & ended up selling them...as I'm just not into stadiums & the setlist was over 75% the same.

So unless he goes back to smaller venues...or...if Wilco were open for him!!!!! These are the only ways that I'd ever probably see him again.

Wondering if there is even a vague chance of them opening for him, since he does only a couple dozen tour dates a year...also wonder if Wilco might open for Neil Young & Crazy Horse at all this Summer...know they've opened for Neil before...

I'm seeing Wilco as many times as I can this Summer (anything within 6 or so hours from Rochester, N.Y. area- Toronto, New York City, Philly, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Akron, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, maybe even Boston etc., etc.) & would love it if I could add seeing them with Neil & The Horse, and/or Macca to that list!!

  19. Here's what I'm pretty sure is the "engineer demos" version up on youtube also, and these two (the earlier one posted above, which is the b-side to the "War On War" single) & this one are definitely different...but both great! Just curious as to what is on the import...a finished studio version? same as this one? different studio version? or just the live one that's on the b-side of the "War On War" single?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsvDrNGqiJU

  20. Can anyone who owns the Japanese Import version of "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" here help me out please.

Is the version that's a bonus, 12th, track on that import version of the album the same as the version of the B-side of the "War On War" single?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O57VOmyRLBg

I know there is the "engineer demo" version floating around as well...

Is it one of these, or something else entirely? Like a finished, different studio track?

And if so, where, pray tell, might I find it?

The Owl & Bear Archive is incredible & extensive, but focuses on live stuff, and very oddly I must say, doesn't bother to be complete with non-album commercially released material.

I know "it's all out there, if you just google", but I don't know which sites that offer all sorts of downloads are safe & Kosher & which aren't.

Thanks to anyone who can help...and to everyone here for helping to make this such a great resource & community.

And for extra-cirricular help, feel free to email me at "HareDurga@yahoo.com". Thanks!!
