  1. I was on the rail on the right side, and I couldn't hear Mikael at all.

I'm loving the Roadcase #47 release of the all acoustic show!! It's certainly a step up from both the kindly released previous sources (NYC Taper & the WFUV Broadcast), & I'm extra thrilled as I was up close on the right side fence myself (with some friends who I didn't want to leave, but was tempted to...because...) and I pretty much couldn't hear Mikael at all either.

I loved the all acoustic show, & was glad I got to see it. It was a little difficult sound wise though, & while a unique success, not quite as rousing & thrilling as the all-covers show (hope they bring that one back too!!) at Solid Sound 2013!! That said, varying levels of greatness & pleasure, are nice things to be thinking about...

  2. There's 1 hour 40 minutes (a few songs are missed out) of this on a certain online video site with good steady fixed camera angle and good sound.

I particularly enjoyed the guitar nerd interaction described in Banter Corner above. It goes on for quite a while and JT's comic timing in reeling of a seemingly endless list of guitar nerd facts was top notch.

Wouldn't have looked it up without your tip. do you recall where the guitar nerd banter was? I have a friend who adores that guitar & would love to direct him to it. Thanks!

  3. They're definitely Roadcasing Friday's set, but Saturday's recording had some issues. The rain caused some sizzle on a couple of mics, apparently. I really hope they can work with it, because it was an amazing show.

Looking very forward to what I hope will be all three shows (Wilco Nights 1 (Fri.) & 2 (Sat.) and Tweedy/Jeff Tweedy Sunday closing set) in Roadcase format...really hoping night #2 makes it as it was just amazing!!!! It's wild to think that there was a second encore planned as well ("Be Not So Fearful", "Thirteen", "Spiders", "Dreamer In My Dreams") that the weather thwarted!!!

  4. This is from another thread here... posted by "Pop Quiz Kid" (thanks!!)...
"Here's a link to a tracked out and labeled 192k mp3 quality version of the WFUV stream from last night. This sounds pretty darn good except for several dropouts during Company In My Back. But is better than nothing until they release it officially and we'll all purchase a copy

You'll have to unzip it once you download it.

The link will be available thru July 3rd.

  5. Wish I didn't know about that second encore.... damn. Still, one of the best Wilco shows I've been to.

This SSF was a different experience for me. I usually attend w/ my father, who wasn't able to make it this year. I was not feeling my usual excitement leading up to the festival, but once the band took the stage on Friday night I really got lost in the experience. The acoustic night was a blast, but it had been nearly 2 years since my last proper Wilco show, so I was really itching for the electric stuff. Saturday did not disappoint!

Oh man! I wonder if the weather knocked out that second encore? What a great foursome that would have been on top of an already amazing show!!! On well, it was still pretty incredible, as always!

  8. OK folks I had a friend who was there last time & is too sick to travel. He's assumed all financial responsibility, realizes it's late in the game & is willing to take the "make an offer" route.

My friend Stan's son cancelled last week & we've been unable to get any takers for that ticket & Stan is also good with the "make an offer" option.

And finally, my friend Dan's son did a last minute bail out, but he wants $75 minimum.

  10. I wasn't there but he did that the other day in Boston.  His opening act had visa problems and couldn't be there so Thompson played an opening acoustic set and then came back with his band.

I saw that! I'd been hoping that this would somehow or another happen...like those concerts in MassMOCA... but at this point I think it'd be a great idea to just to go ahead & have him play a full acoustic set as a replacement on Sunday.

  11. From Facebook:

We regret to announce that due to US State Dept. Visa issues, King Sunny Ade must cancel his performance at the Solid Sound Festival this Sunday (as well as numerous other US dates).

Download the revised three-day schedule here:http://bit.ly/Schedule_SSF15

With the Taj Mahal cancelation, that's two of my must-sees down the drain. :(

I'm still thrilled to be going- with Wilco, Tweedy/Jeff Tweedy & Richard Thompson alone, it'd be plenty enough for me...but...

Ouch!! King Sunny Ade was way up there was acts I was the most excited about! And I'd have to love to have seen Taj Mahal again too! That's some really tough last minute breaks for all concerned.

Just get Yo La Tengo to fill in!!! :)

  12. I'd recommend getting in line very very early for Nels Cline and Wisdom Norton's Stained Radiance show!!

I saw this show in Chicago a few months ago in which Glenn Kotche also performed and it was Incredible.

Nels Cline and Wisdom Norton's combination of superb avant garde jazz guitar and brilliant impromptu painting, albeit temporary, makes every performance seem totally unique!   (Although I've only seen this show once).

    See this show!!!

I'm hoping for an acoustic Richard Thompson solo performance!

I'm hoping for acoustic Richard too!!! Maybe we'll luck out with something not on the schedule, impromptu & in one of the MassMOCA buildings. Didn't this happen with a few acts last time too? I didn't make any of them, but am I remembering wrong or did Lucius, & maybe someone else do this?

  13. I wonder if they in fact filmed the full Wilco performances on both nights? It would be incredible to have a 2 show release of both nights of Wilco from 2013!!!

While I doubt this....wouldn't it be something if they were getting together something with that? You know those Solid  Sound shows from 2013 (Roadcase #18 & #19) are the only two Roadcase shows that are no longer available? I wish they'd surprise us at Solid Sound with that release! A DVD/Blu-Ray & CD Box Set of the 2013 Wilco performances for continuing 20th Anniversary goodies goodness on the occasion of the Solid Sound of their 20th Anniversary!

That would also provide great future continuing publicity for Solid Sound itself- as the film itself clearly is. The film highlights that there was initially money lost, & only recently just a little money made. It's nice to hear the 3-day passes are likely to sell out this year, along with the single day Saturday night tickets too. Things like Solid Sound (and that they do it to share an amazing experience & not to make money) are why I've tried, during times of more abundance, to really support the larger artistic project of Wilco (giving out merch to folks who are like minded as gifts etc. ... maybe buying another Roadcase show that only has one or two songs that are repeated at other show...now an even harder/rarer enterprise after the string of 20th Anniversary releases)- I love the vision & the heart.

Well, one can hope & dream! I'll settle for an announcement about a forthcoming new album (they apparently did that at the 2011 Solid Sound), & it would be amazing to hear any new songs... or maybe close the Fest with the song they closed the film with...or to have them finally do "Sunloathe" live ;)

You know, I probably won't. I would have bought an extras film of rehearsal/DVD footage - I did see the extras trailer and that looked great, but I can't get too excited about the actual film. I think you had to be there for it to be a nice souvenir since there is a lot of stuff I am not that interested in.

Someone offered to PM me the answer to the last cover, so that will put me out of my misery later :-) Just curious about that in case it was something I requested and/or why it did not make the cut depending on what it was.

What is "the extras trailer" I'm not sure I know about any "extras"...curious....

  14. Just downloaded it. Will be watching in an hour or two, but I just previewed it by skipping here & there with it for 10-15 minutes.

File Under- Happy Synchronicities. And I won't spoil the ending, but... The front vestibule/entrance area at my acupuncture office is an "L" shaped area, with a mural on the wall & the acoustics of the stair well of your dreams- echo-laden & lovely. You sound better than you ever have when you play there. I practice acoustic there all the time (inside it's like a bunker &  absolute electric heaven).

I had a friend over this week to jam. We'd never played together before & had limited time, so I said- "Just name off a few artists, & we'll pick some songs, download some lyrics, print them off & have a go at it.". She named the first band & I suggested the song. It was the first of about a dozen we worked with. That first song I suggested is the song that closes "Every Other Summer". It apparently was rehearsed for the Friday night covers show, but didn't make the cut & has never been been heard until now. It's absolutely beautiful & I couldn't think of a better ending for the film. Perfect timing...as if I wasn't already excited enough about Solid Sound. Can't wait to watch the whole film very soon!!!

  15. After pissing away close to a grand and a week's vacation time on a fiasco of a Replacements tour, I have made the tough decision not to attend Solid Sound this time and would also like to give my 3 day early bird pass to someone here. I realize most people that can attend will already have tickets but maybe there's a friend or relative you could bring along? PM me or post here if interested.

PM'd you that my friend can't make it...so please give it to whoever is next in line! :)

PM'd you. Just called a friend in Acton, Mass. & hope to hear back from him tomorrow. Either way, bravo to you for doing this & sorry to hear The Matz were goofing off on the tour to a detrimental degree...

  17. At Solid Sound 2013 I was most excited, & impressed with Yo La Tengo (to be fair they were already my other favorite band in the world besides Wilco & have been for many years), & I was thrilled to finally, believe it or not, catch The Dream Syndicate for the first time.

Having Parquet Courts there is going to make me miss those guys much less than I otherwise would have.
    Here's the sampler: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5CvZTIoir8

And if you dug that, dig into the whole KEXP performance (the smapler was the closing song): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rEwOhbSbeI

  18. Wow I'm overwhelmed by the plethora of awesomeness y'all!  I've never been to a SS before so I feel like a kid awaiting the unknown wonders of Disneyland for the first time.

Joe's field, isn't there a nice hill you can post up on with a blanket?  Is this too far out for an obsessive Wilco fan?  Should I plan on arriving pretty early for both Wilco sets?

Better than Disneyland...I'm fond of saying it's like having Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory located in the middle of Pepperland.

Joe's Field has plenty of places to toss down a nice blanket, but... from what the veteran's have said about it's development (my first time was last time, 2013), & I concur that it's getting to be at about capacity size wise & I hope it doesn't grow any. I don't think it can really (think there are probably legal limits they are reaching on Saturday at least) & it's still good size wise, but with Saturday sold out & Friday being acoustic/unplugged getting a place down front involves some issues with folks bringing chairs etc.. not arriving when they start seems wise.

There appears to be two pretty decent acts in Joe's Field right before Wilco, so my plan is to get down there, at least, before they do on. The sound is pretty awesome, so even being back farther isn't a big deal....but... being it is a larger crowd it kind of felt better to me when I was up front more. The biggest issues for me last year involved hydration & going to the bathroom. There are ample places to get fresh water, for free, all over Pepperland/Wonka's Factory, but... having a longer show & the bathrooms far away did cause a breakdown for all of my team at various points on Saturday as the temps were sweltering & in the 90's (the more difficult side of beautiful I guess)...Hope all this helps! It's gonna be great!!!

  19. ~Richard Thompson: First & foremost. I've seen him, in both electric & acoustic incarnations, loads of times over the last couple decades & he's on my highest top shelf of loved artists. I"m as excited about him as I was about Yo La Tengo at the 2013 SS. Especially hoping he does what YLT did in '13 & what he did with Wilco on the AmericanaramA tour...sit in with Wilco. Richard Thompson & Nels Cline were just amazing (got to catch that twice on that tour) & I'm hoping that Richard sits in on both Saturday & Sunday for the finale (which would seem certain).

~Nels Cline & Norton Wisdom's Stained Radiance: Anything involving Nels Cline!!!

~King Sunny Ade & His African Beats: Caught them once in NYC & was blown away. I'm a big fan & totally thrilled they are here.

~NRBQ: Well I really think of this more as The Terry Adams Band, but that's fine. Terry Adams is about as fave a keyboard player as I have in the world, & about as great a songwriter, so I'm just thrilled to get to catch him/them too. It's been way too long...

~Charles Lloyd Quartet: Like with King Sunny Ade & His African Beats, it's a thrill to get something more "left field" with Festivals & this one is really delivering with these two acts. I've never seen him/them before & I'm very excited.

~Bill Frisell: Love his playing, never seen him, hoping to catch at least one, if not both of his performances...

    After those acts...
~Parquet Courts, Real Estate, Mac DeMarco, The Felice Brothers: Dug what I've heard for any of these acts, not a real fan of any of them in any major way, but excited to catch any of them live...
~Cibo Matto: Seen them before, always cool & unique- hope Nels and/or Jeff sit in maybe..
~Jessica Williams & John Hodgeman: Love The Daily Show & hope to catch the end of their set after NRBQ
~Shabazz Palaces: Like Cibo Matto, King Sunny Ade & Charles Lloyd, another exciting curve ball, but the one I'm least excited about...dig some of what I've heard & interested to catch them live...
~Glenn Kotche & Jeffrey Ziegler: Glenn is as fave a drummer/percussionist as I have in the world, do always glad to catch anything he does.
~The Autumn Defense: Will be sad to miss them involving schedule conflict with King Sunny Ade...
~Mikael Jorgensen: Probably the first act I'll catch...adore him as a keyboard player & curious to hear his work on his own for sure...

  20. Post-Schedule Thoughts...
    1) I REALLY hope Richard Thompson sits in with them on Saturday night & we get to hear he & Nels Cline do what they did on the AmericanaramA tour (caught two of those gigs where they did)...and if not on Saturday, then at least on Sunday during the Tweedy/Jeff Tweedy/Jeff Tweedy & Friends set... still wish they'd been able to book Thompson as both solo acoustic & electrio trio, but maybe he'll play some acoustic with either Wilco or more likely, if at all, with Jeff & friends on Sunday...

    2) Friday is almost all about getting down front as far as possible for the unplugged/acoustic Wilco show.

    3) I agree that I think the visual is off... probably about 2 & 1/4 hours/135 minutes for Wilco each night, which is pretty much been the norm for the past few years (shorter sometimes if they are limited by scheduling at some other Fest that's not their own)..wonder if there's any chance of the finale running even longer than 7:00?!?!

    4) Tricky time management spots:
~Will see NRBQ but really did hope to catch Jessica Williams & hoping it won't be so packed (the indoor venue isn't that large) that I can't get in for end of that...
~Depending on how packed it is I might miss Parquet Courts (who I'm really interested in) to get down close for Wilco on Saturday...
~Sunday is smokin'!!!- Get there early to catch Nels Cline's Stained Radiance set, then should be able to catch most of the Charles Lloyd Quartet...
~King Sunny Ade gets the nod, but I'll try to catch the end of The Felice Brothers before the finale.

  21. Funny--I'm driving back (well, stopped for a break) from Richmond to Norfolk after St. Vincent and am listening to night 6. :-)

Love St. Vincent!!! I've seen her a number of times myself...

And... recently still listening to the 20th anniversary shows... various Port Chester & Winterlude shows...and my own custom virtual Wilco unplugged double CD mix, culled from the acoustic performances at those shows... Check the link below for the how to, to easily make your own...
