  1. "Star Wars" by Wilco & "Stuff Like That There" by Yo La Tengo (which is streaming on NPR's First Listen at the link below- release date is Friday August 28th)... (two album released by my two favorite bands in the world, within a week of each other... seeing them both twice in September: Wilco in Cleveland & Ithaca and Yo La Tengo in Toronto & NYC.

  2. "Totty says that in the course of a 30-year career, Yo La Tengo's music has covered a lot of cultural contexts, making the band a go-to for music buttons between stories. It also doesn't hurt that "they sound like six bands at once," he adds, using everything from the country twang of "Pablo And Andrea" to the heavy hard rock of "Big Day Comin.'"

That's why the long-running group will take a train from Hoboken, N.J., to NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C., to be the in-house band for Morning Edition on Tuesday, Aug. 25, playing all those music buttons live between stories."

  3. While sadly my own copy won't arrive until Monday...now that's it's been released, I'm betting this will open up a spot for a Roadcase show spotlighting them performing all of "Star Wars" live soon.

What I think would be a great idea is to find the best live show version (or versions if you'd like to cherry pick & have them culled from various shows) & completely mix it (a la "Kicking Television: Live In Chicago") & release a Deluxe version of "Star Wars" towards the holidays with both the studio & a live version of the album. I hope that would get them to play "EKG" at least once. It'd be cool to close the set with it, like a bookends of sorts or a "Finnegan's Wake" finish- where the ending is a circular begin again one (start with the recorded version, end with it live). I do dig the look of them coming out to, like their theme music, & then going right into "More"- that works really well.

So this tour is tending towards- the full album, roughly 15-16 songs from the back catalog electric & then usually 4-5 hootenanny encores (sometimes electric encores) & hopefully the continuation of some all acoustic gigs (like San Francisco & KEXP benefit) along the way too (come on NYC area, or Toronto unplugged!). Looking forward to the shows in Cleveland & Ithaca, that forthcoming first Roadcase release with the full album played to open & getting my copy of the CD on Monday.

  4. Hi,

what were the acoustic instruments used? Not sure if I heard a mandolin...and I also heard another voice...who was there? Didn't read a lot online to grasp who was the guest.  Thanks a lot!

  7. Wilco posted a pic... hoping we get lots of KEXP video from it (they are great with that) & that they continue to do these acoustic/unplugged gigs on this tour!!...This venue is even smaller than the one in S.F. (500) at 250-300 capacity. Hope we get a set list soon from someone...
"KEXP invites you to an intimate acoustic matinee with Wilco on Monday, August 10th at 12:30 PM at Columbia City Theater.

Wilco will showcase new songs from their latest album, Star Wars, alongside classics from their illustrious career. Space for this special performance is very limited so reserve your tickets now. This show is 21+."

  8. uh oh.

The link is back up & working again... assume you've already gotten the Pitchfork Fest (sound mix wasn't terrible at Outside Land, but Pitchfork was way better...but for anyone else who might have missed it...

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/wby5udgdbe7n923/Wilco%20-%202015-07-17%20Pitchfork%20Music%20Festival%20%5B1080p%5D.mkv?dl=0

and the audio files from Pitchfork: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kubfj9ucbri6gqy/AACUkz5GiRPvjNz4EG2A8xg9a?dl=0

  9. Thanks, Paul. I noticed you'd filled out the original report with more detail about the sonic experience, so I edited my original post since you addressed that issue. But the further clarification helps.

I thought I had noticed Jeff having trouble picking a key for his vocals and sticking with it during Random Name Generator at Outside Lands. You're right, those are some tough songs to sing and play.

I think the issue/issues with Outside Land were... the sound mix was odd- the vocals were up way too high & to the front- which caused an odd sound & feel throughout (especially compared to the amazing sound mix & performance at Pitchfork) that really more pronounced during certain songs...and... I think that was a show where there were a couple of lyrical stumbles- nothing terrible, just brief & with good recovery & all (as usual)...

  10. It was. I'm downloading it from dimeadozen.org right now.

You are the man Colonel. I'm sure it'll be out there...but, if it's possible to share via Dropbox (a la the Pitchfork Fest Files, video & audio, that were shared here previously) that many here, myself included, without dime accounts, would be very grateful...

  11. As many of you have probably already heard, but just in case you haven't... Wilco played an all-acoustic show last night for about 500 people at The Independent in San Francisco- including playing 9 songs off of "Star Wars", unplugged style. I think "Less Than You Think" & "Bob Dylan's 49th Beard" are also new editions (acoustic style) & additions to the list of songs that are getting the hootenanny style treatment here on the 20th Anniversary/"Star Wars" touring...not to mention "Wasn't Born To Follow"!!

I really hope we end up with a Roadcase show from it...but... until then, this just appeared in the "After The Show" thread about the show courtesy of "leatherman" Enjoy!!

Does anyone know how to get these files into iTunes? The files for the Pitchfork show went into my iTunes (as most such downloads do for me) just fine, but iTunes isn't reading these. Any ideas anyone? Love to be able to burn a CD with both the live electric & live acoustic versions of the SW songs...

    http://we.tl/fYwsdV09tf

  12. When do you think we'll see the first roadcase for sale with the new songs in the set list?

Anybody's guess...but... I think they'll wait until after the album is officially released (August 27th)...they had pre-orders for the first two Tweedy Roadcase shows up, but ended up not releasing them until after the album came out... by the end of August they'll have had more than a dozen shows under their belt since Pitchfork & I'm hoping we'll get at least one electric show with a full "Star Wars" & now I'm hoping that we get that San Francisco all-acoustic show with the 9 unplugged "Star Wars" songs.

I'm also hoping that if they do a nice three show run again in the NYC area (Capitol Theater or wherever else), that maybe they'll do two electric & one all-acoustic. As much as I loved them doing it at Solid Sound... I think the all-acoustic format tends to work a bit better in smaller venue situations... farther off track, personally I'd also love to see them return to the "all-request/all covers" show possibility for Solid Sound 2017 (it's be the first one in 4 years by then!)!!!

  13. With the exception of "EKG" (which they haven't been playing, just coming out to it...like it was their theme song) & "You Satellite" Wilco performed the whole new album acoustic last night. They didn't do it all in row, in order... while it appeared shuffled in amidst the other songs in the set list (in three, 3 songs in a row, bursts), as they appeared, they came out in order (from "More" to "Magnetized") ...

500 capacity club sounds truly perfect for an all-acoustic Wilco show. Really hope that this one becomes a Roadcase release!!!! That, and hopefully soon, a Roadcase of a full electric performance of the new album (as it's being played, in it's entirety, to kick off their lives shows as of right now...)

WOW!! 500 capacity venue is pretty much ideal for an all-acoustic show!! I really hope that this one gets released as a Roadcase show (along with any show that features a performance of the full "Star Wars" album...)... they did everything but "EKG" & "You Satellite" acoustic from the "Star Wars" album too!!! (9 of 11...or... 9 of the 10 they've been doing...)... and something from "The Notorious Byrd Brothers" to boot!! WOW!

  15. There's a nice dozen show run coming up in August. Here's to hoping that we get a Roadcase show, soonerer than laterer, where the show opens with the complete "Star Wars" album- like at the Pitchfork & Gathering Of The Vibes Fests!!! The actual "Star Wars" CD comes out on August 21st, so I'm hoping sometime just after that, but, hopefully, before the run of, yeat another even dozen, shows in September (seeing Cleveland & Ithaca myself)!

  16. I was close up front at Lockn', so my take on many of the crowd's attitude towards Wilco comes from posts on the Lockn' forum and from seeing people leave the front area before their sets. I assumed the Lockn' and Cap Theater shows were all part of the same deal with Shapiro. I caught one of the Cap shows. Encouraging news today, on the Cap Theater FB page they posted a Great photo of all of Tweedy's guitars from Vibes with the question who wants to see Wilco back at the Cap? So, hopeful for a return multi night run in Portchester. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Another multi night run at the Capitol Theater would simple be a capital idea!!! The last 3 night run there, for the 20th Anniversary shows last October, resulted in Roadcase Shows #37, 38 & 39. I was Blessed to be able to make all three.

That picture looks like a picture perfect ad for Souldier Guitar Straps!! I don't think I spy a single strap that's not a Souldier Strap. There my absolute faves & I own over half a dozen, but under a dozen, myself- though I've never bought any of the ones I've seen Wilco use, or any that are in this backstage photo either.

  17. The big news, of late, is that, at the first gig since the Pitchfork Fest, last night at The Gathering Of The Vibes Fest, they once again opened by playing "Star Wars" in it's entirety. Courtesty of the grand & glorious NYC Taper, for your dancing & dining pleasure, the complete 8/1/15 Gathering Of The Vibes Show!!!

    From NYC Taper:

"Wilco has wowed this summer in a few ways — first with their exceptional Solid Sound acoustic performance (which we captured here), then with the surprise free release of Star Wars, easily their finest album in ten years. Here at Gathering of the Vibes on the Bridgeport seaside, the band built on the momentum they created with their full-album performance of Star Wars back at Pitchfork Music Festival with another full-album run through, followed by some of the band’s best-known songs as well as the rarity “Laminated Cat.” As a special treat, Warren Haynes, he of every single guest appearance at northeastern jam festivals, joined for “California Stars” to close things out. But lest you think this was a standard-issue performance, Jeff Tweedy and co., buoyed by the presence of Nels Cline, turned even the older tunes into noisier, edgier renditions than we’ve seen recently, perhaps alienating some of this festival’s core audience, but proving that Wilco is returning to what made Yankee Hotel Foxtrot their true landmark album, and what marks them as so much bigger than being the “dad rock” of their detractors. Star Wars has proven that this band has many more good years ahead, and we’ll be thrilled to be a part of them.

I recorded this set with Schoeps MK4V microphones in the taper’s section. While distance and being outdoors always impact sound quality, overall this is an excellent effort. Enjoy!"

    And just in case...
