  1. The exclusive live tracks are from the Pitchfork Festival.

Which ones? All the "Star Wars" tracks?

Such great versions at that show!!! I even prefer them to the Roadcase release from Redmond, WA... so glad to have the video & audio! Love to get the official downloads at some point. Still hoping for an Ithaca Roadcase- the "Star Wars" material was just incredible that night too!!

  2. When I left NYC in the Summer of 2000... the Mets & Yanks ended up in the first all NYC subway series in over 4 decades... The Mekons finally did their "Club Mekon" residency (played 3 dates highlighting various aspects of their career @ CBGB's, Bowery Ballroom & Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ)...and...

After lightning struck & I ended up losing both my sublet & job in the same week I ended up back at my mom's house (with my younger brother, who had never left) & promptly injured my left arm. I thought I'd end up on disability (as the injury lasted over 2 debilitating years.)- couldn't play guitar, do yoga, etc.- looked good in jacket, but the left arm was useless for any activity. It was saved by acupuncture, eventually.

So I did a deep meditation & ended in calm resolve that I was selling all my musical instruments. During the meditation there were a couple clear things-
    a) that I wouldn't be in a position to be playing much for the next few years (injury, then deepest immersion in Shamanism & so much so that the music used by the Shipibo-Conibo tribe had me relating to sound itself in a very different way for years to come...then grad school for 3 years- all of this amidst lots of silence, stillness, solitude & celibacy)...
...&... that, when it was time again, I'd know & these things would come back to me.

While everything & way more did, eventually, come back to me... that wasn't before things got worse. The place I sold almost everything through went bankrupt. They were good to their word, though it took them about 3 years to get back up & fully pay me off (Bravo & Viva Main Drag Music from Brooklyn, NY- started by a Buffalonian)- so I was left pretty destitute with my nest egg, last line of emergency financial defense gone. The place that sold the Rick were bastards about finally paying me out (won't mention the name, long since closed guitar store from St. Marks Place in NYC) & the last thing to go was the old Martin...sigh...but I love the ones I have now even more!!! So it's a very, very happy ending really!!

What I jettisoned (which, believe me was a leap of faith & then some, but, I was sure & it was the right thing to do, at the time, but look at that list & try not saying "ouch" out loud...)...
    1982 '57 Reissue Fender Stratocaster
1965 Fender Jazzmaster (refinished in Silver Sparkle with Japanese Re-issue 1988 Jazzmaster neck)
1966 Rickenbacker 360-12 (Mapleglo, but with a break in the neck near the headstock that forced me to have it re-repaired 3 times... a total cursed guitar for me...but beautiful)
    1961 Martin D-18
    1972 Fender Deluxe Reverb Amp
    1990's Fender Jazz Bass
    1970's/80's Fender Rhodes Electric Piano
    Tama Drums

I haven't yet bought any drums or keyboards (waiting for more permanent housing to happen), but...I have gotten back to music & far more musical equipment than this has ended up coming my way. Again, it was a meditation where I knew it was now time to go out & gather the instruments to make music again.

  3. Hoping we get at least something else on Roadcase before the end of the year... loved the performance of "Star Wars" at Pitchfork & would really love one more version of the whole album live... REALLY hoping that, at the very least, the Ithaca show gets a Roadcase release!! That was a truly magical night on many levels!!

  4. First- Continuation of the "Star Wars" tour (rooting for an NYC triple with an all-acoustic show & for Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Toronto too...)
    ... then...
... IIRC correctly Jeff said, in an interview a little while back, that he & Spencer had the next Tweedy album (think it was implied that it was a single album) all finished, mixed & ready to go.. so I'm betting on another Tweedy album (in 2016) before the next Wilco... but another Wilco album sooner than later is certainly possible guessing 2017)... & some Jeff solo dates (including two all-request shows at the Vic this time, please...) would be very welcome too...and...before the end of the year, the Ithaca show as a Roadcase please!!! As great a show as I've ever heard them do & probably the most fun I've had at a Wilco show too! Pure magic that night on every level!

  5. I can't remember if the band had played any of the songs acoustic in front of a audiance before the Waterloo gig. Was Waterloo the first?

I think both tunes Random Name Generator and Joke Explained translated great. But thats my favorite one two punch on the release anyway so my judgment may have been influenced.

It would have been cool to see the band do one electric and one acoustic Star Wars to start both Stubbs gigs. It was after all the first time Star Wars had been played back to back same venue.

Great point, that would have been an interesting twist... They did something similar in S.F., where they played two gigs (one a Fest) & they did an all-acoustic show which featured 9 of the 10 (no "E.K.G.", of course, & no "You Satellite", sadly...they didn't do them consecutively, but in groupings of 3....)- it's out there as Roadcase #49 (Roadcase #50 has a full electric "Star Wars")...

  6. Doing this next Saturday...should be fun! If anyone is in the Western New York area...hope to see you there!!
"On Saturday October 3rd The Dryden Theatre (at The George Eastman House, 900 East Ave, Rochester, NY) is showing "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart"- a documentary on Wilco & the making of "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". While the film starts at 8:00, the festivities begin there at 7:15 with John Link leading "The Kay-Settes (Starring Butcher's Blind)" for some pre-film live musical fun. After that the party moves to The Skylark Lounge (40 S. Union St.) where The Great Lates DJ Collective will be spinning all sorts of rare & unreleased Wilco music amidst a small installation of the art/memorobilia of Wilco."

  7. What a fantastic mid-week road trip!  I drove up from VA, ran into Pat on the street near the venue (he was so kind to stop and chat for a minute), Star Wars (!), and spent the evening dancing right in front of the stage with some great people. I'd put this one near the top of all of the 20+ Wilco shows I've seen.  The sound in the venue was just right, and the audience was enthusiastic to say the least.

Sorry we weren't able to hook up... hopefully at some east coast gig in the future... I was dancing up left myself!! As great as I've ever seen them (probably close to the same number of times you have too), maybe THE best even, & probably the most fun too. I REALLY hope they do a Roadcase show from this one!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Exactly what I was thinking, because that would be kinda weird!

No, they missed one. "Red-Eyed & Blue" followed by "I Got You (At The End Of The Century)" yes... they played it, just skipped on the official set list.

Without question it was as great as I've ever seen them play & beyond that a real magical night with the crowd. The new album was just stellar live (really didn't feel it got a fair shake for me in Cleveland with the sub-par acoustics, but here it was a perfect situation.) as I'd hoped having seen & heard the previous footage of it.

Jeff noted something to the effect of "I think we've got a new favorite place to play!" at one point. Folks on the side aisles were dancing from the start, but then folks in the middle started & encouraging others to as well. More folks started going into the middle aisles (I myself got up during "Handshake Drugs" & then left my 10th row seat for the aisle as "Camera" kicked in) & somewhere later around the middle of "Hummingbird" Jeff gleefully noted to the folks in the front rows something like "you're time of being at the front has now ended"... folks by that time were all over the whole front area dancing & with that line, even more took the go-ahead sign & came down... the whole last half of the show was filled up front & in some of the aisles with most folks standing and/or dancing & the energy was totally infectious.

They played just shy of 2 & 1/2 hours, 32 songs & a six song acoustic encore that followed an epic electric "Spiders (Kidsmoke)"  first encore. The State Theater is one of my favorite places to see a show in the world. The sound is just impeccable (though there was a little problem with some feedback during the first acoustic number, after which the whole band spoke up about it & it was fixed). A good friend & I who used to live in NYC together & have seen Yo La Tengo countless times over the years saw YLT at the State Theater there a year or two ago & my friend said to me- "not only is that as great as I've ever seen them play, but I think this is the greatest venue I've ever seen them play at.". It was the polar opposite of the situation in Cleveland last week, where the sound was just abysmal. Shows at The State Theater are something really special. It truly is an ideal place to see your fave artists. One last thing about the gig was that it was sweltering hot. One close friend, who is a huge fan, actually left before the finish because he couldn't take it anymore. Everyone else had an amazing time, but most folks noted how toasty it was. Personally I embraced it & kicked off my shoes & socks & just danced barefoot (it got hotter as you headed to the more crowded front areas)...

Tweedy played The State Theater in Ithaca last year & I'm sure the venue is part of the reason they were so eager to come back. Last time he mentioned a few things, including Rumble Seat Music (where he bought an amp last time)- an amazing music store two doors down from The State Theater. I myself found a great deal on a mid-60's Guild 12-String (F-212XL for those of you keeping score at home) a couple of years ago. We stopped in & inquired about the "moth to the flame" inevitable visit & they said at this point they know Jeff fairly well & had nothing but great stuff to say about him. Someone on facebook posted that their "luxury home of wheels" had been parked in front of her play of employment for the last few days. Jeff mentioned enjoying a trip to Buttermilk Falls- the whole Ithaca area is filled with gorges & waterfalls galore. It's the home of Cornell & very progressive (more restaurants per capita than NYC & more acupuncturists per capita than California- noted the acupuncturist. I ate dinner with an Acu colleague before the show myself, at a great Thai place, right across from the venue) & my guess is between the beautiful landscape/nature, general east village/Cambridge feel, the great acoustics & just general wonderful venue that The State Theater is, the lure of Rumble Seat Music & the incredible reception that the band got last night that Wilco will be back there often.

FYI Bbop- you can't make 'em all, but put an asterisk next to the *"State Theater, Ithaca, NY" gig next time ;)

  9. I PM'd you here too, but...
My friend's are trying to sell a pair, but... I heard from, literally, a friend of a friend that there was someone looking for a single ticket.
My cell is (585) 813-3561 if you wanna try me & I can see if I can hook you up with the person looking for the single. Being a sold out show & having the kind of ticket you've got, I'll bet you'll do fine, but good luck anyhow!

  10. Since both "merline" & bbop" have mentioned it...I'll go a step further... The performance was a great one (and a total thrill to catch the new album right out of the gates), but this was the worst sound I've ever heard at a Wilco show. Stan & the gang do a great job, so it was most certainly the venue. I was in the GA in the Pit, & moving around didn't really help much either... the vocals were cavernous, the bass mush & plaenty of times I could see hands, fingers & picks flailing away, sometimes even knowing the notes going on, but I couldn't hear them. Ugh & Argh...

Please Wilco don't ever play the Masonic Auditorium again. Happily I was particularly well situated for the show (thanks again Ben!!) & being in a good mood I settled into the full happy haze mode- OK so the sound is not good, let's think of it as "gauzey" & the place is not air conditioned, let's think of it as "tropical", so let's just enjoy the great light show & drift into the happy haze of the best we can make of this...which was the usual terrific performance, but... it was an effort to do so... having to travel 8 hours round trip on a in & out/hit & run @ $70 a ticket for that kind of sound was not a great feeling... Wilco's the kind of band that gets you over that fast, but I'd never go there to see anyone again, ever, Wilco included. Next time their in Cleveland I sure hope they play somewhere else.

  11. A friend of mine (who works on the Railroad... all the live long day...) from Buffalo was/is planning on going to the show in Cleveland with me, but... issues with work involve him now getting some kind of revised work schedule this Wednesday. So we won't know for sure if he can go until that day- which is the day before the show. Ugh! For both of us...

Meaning there is a potential that I might have one extra ticket for, get this, the General Admission in the Pit...as close as you can get without sitting in with the band! So chime in here, or PM me to get in line for the possible/potential goods...

  12. gotta say, pretty disappointed with the San Francisco Roadcase show. The sound quality is lacking, and the crowd is way too noisy and obnoxious.

Interestingly enough, while I thought the performances for both the recent Roadcase shows were great, I thought the sound (while not awful by any means) wasn't that great & wasn't up to the usual quality/standards of other Roadcase release (also odd that they'd release two sort of sub-par sound shows at once)...

I have to say that I think I really prefer the audio files floating around from the Pitchfork Fest to the Seattle/Redmond show. I'm curious to hear from any other folks that have both, as to which they think is better, the Pitchfork live show or the recent electric show Roadcase release?

  13. Wilco Just Released Two New Roadcase shows!!!
#49 (8/11 Redmond WA) features an electric performance of "Star Wars" (minus "EKG"- just like at the Pitchfork Fest) & #50 (8/6 San Francisco, CA) is the all acoustic gig at The Independent, which features 9 songs from "Star Wars" (missing "EKG" & "You Satellite")...so now there will be the studio version, a live electric version (in addition to the great Pitchfork audio files) & close to a full acoustic version too!

  14. My question is whether side B of the LP will start with Taste The Ceiling or Pickled Ginger.

I'd say "Pickled Ginger"pretty much for sure... the instrumental on side one & then 5 songs each (from the ten remaining) for each side.

  15. I guess they are not doing some sort of deluxe edition as they have in recent years? Amazon tells me mine should be here sometime before the end of the month. I didn't really listen to the free download. So it will be new to me. I still think the title is odd. Maybe Jeff was doing a Replacements - Let It Be.

My personal hope for a later deluxe edition (from post above): What I think would be a great idea is to find the best live show version (or versions if you'd like to cherry pick & have them culled from various shows) & completely mix it (a la "Kicking Television: Live In Chicago") & release a Deluxe version of "Star Wars" towards the holidays with both the studio & a live version of the album. I hope that would get them to play "EKG" at least once. It'd be cool to close the set with it, like a bookends of sorts or a "Finnegan's Wake" finish- where the ending is a circular begin again one (start with the recorded version, end with it live). I do dig the look of them coming out to, like their theme music, & then going right into "More"- that works really well.

If that doesn't pan out, than the Roadcase releases with the full album will be plenty fine.

  16. I received my CD yesterday. Not crazy about the packaging, but WOW does this sound much better than the free download.

Yeah, not diggin' the barcode back cover, or the weird way the lyrics are printed, but... minor points compared to how absolutely great this is!!! Got mine today!!
