Despite Beltmann, who I’m sure is correct as he’s never steered me wrong on a film yet, finding fault with the ending, I too love Aubrey Plaza and am planning on watching.

Ya, ending not the best. Film better than most of the crap out there. Aubrey is really good in it.

I wouldn't mind catching them again, too.

Looking forward to the getting of Wish on vinyl, too.

I don't do vinyl due to financial reasons & because my hands don't work right from the arthritis so I drop stuff a real lot. CDs take that abuse better. That being said, I picked up the anniversary package of Wish on CD. It's pretty wonderful. Not the extra stuff so much but the remaster of the album is incredible. It sounds like a totally different record. So good it's moving up my list of favorite Cure records. I was in the music biz over 25 years & have seen hundreds of shows. I used to get paid to go & at my peak I was out 3 or 4 nights a week. For years the Cure were my bucket list band. Something always happened when they came to town that didn't let me go. The worst was 1992. I had prime tickets, backstage passes, the works. Day of the show my mom died. My gf at the time & her brother went. Happily, I finally broke the curse in 2016. When the tour was announced Seattle was on the list but they were playing the late & unlamented Sasquatch festival. Over 2 hour drive each way & shorter sets (& that year brush fires causing the whole festival to be covered in smoke haze). So I said f it & bit the bullet for a ticket to the Vegas show. It was the smallest venue on the tour. I got a great seat, front of the balcony on the Reeves side. The band totally delivered. They started with the first 3 songs of Disintegration & I almost had a heart attack. The show was so good that I got a ticket for 1.5 weeks later in Ridgefield, WA across the river from Portland. They hadn't played Portland in well over 10 years & people were riled up. The band totally got the energy & played 3 hours (half hour more than Vegas). During the "put your hands to the sky" part of From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea there were 30,000 hands in the air. They also busted out some really old stuff like Charlotte Sometimes & material from Pornography. One of my favorite concerts of all time & that's saying a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing them in 2023, God willing.

  3. For anyone interested you can pre-order the whole upcoming tour for a discount. It's too rich for me but some might enjoy it. If the Seattle show is good like the last one was I'll certainly order that later. I got a cd of the River show I saw & it's real good, still listen to it. Almost 4 hours! Hoping the upcoming tour is as good. We shall see.

We don't need it - move on - you are 20 years late. I myself used to spend a lot of time going on and on about how much I hated certain bands. It does not do anyone any good. Talk about what you do like.

You're hardly impartial & if you bother to read my original post it was totally Wilco related. I wasn't battling with anyone & we actually had a good discussion going on about my original question/observation. It just irked me (& others) that the thread was arbitrarily closed for no apparent reason. So it's ok to have an opinion only if you agree with it? Doesn't seem right. It's kind of one of those who died & made you God questions (1 of my favorite lines!). :D

I don't give a crap either way about discussing things ----- though I must admit the whole Fred thing is dumb and getting old -- but to each their own. It's just hard trying to have a legit discussion about about a band, when right off the bat someone is using a dumb name for the band - maybe use it once to prove your point, then move on.

The MSG set is decent thus far  - listened to first 81 show (10/9/81) and last show in the set (10/12/83). As expected, the sound quality is definitely not the best, due to the masters - but it definitely sounds ok. The liner notes thus far are great (David Fricke). Some cool interviews with the band from the period, that I was not familiar with.  I do have to place the book on a table while I read it -- it is a bulky fucker.

    all sensitive & OCD

We get it - you don't like the Grateful Dead. You don't need to waste your time saying it over and over again.

Why was the thread regarding the Fred & Wilco shut down?  It was a reasonable discussion (BTW I never said hate about anyone. I merely quoted a humorous take from Robert Pollard of Guided by Voices that I witnessed in person) until a party (bro man) from the Head side got all sensitive & OCD. I thought I had a valid question/observation about current Wilco trends.

  7. Now that the European tour is done I'm hoping we get an announcement in January for the North American tour. I've heard several shows from Europe & the shows are fantastic. They've been doing 5 songs from the upcoming album & they're great. Close to 3 hour shows again. They've added Perry Bamonte to the line-up on guitar & keyboards so at times it's the Lynyrd Skynyrd of goth haha. I had fears that they were going to do another nostalgia go round & I'm happy to say I was wrong. I may go to more than one show if I'm able physically & financially. I expect the tickets are going to be in the $100 range which seems fair. They've been pretty fan friendly. They're only charging $25 for t-shirts which is usually a good sign. While they don't actively condone it, they're pretty taper friendly. I think I've got the whole European tour & the setlists are what you want.

I'm normally willing to go to great lengths to suspend disbelief, but the ending of Emily the Criminal zooms way past my breaking point. It's a crock. Which is a shame, since the rest of this low-key thriller, carried exclusively by Aubrey Plaza's terrific performance, bitterly conveys something true about the traps of modern-day American capitalism.

I've got this one in my queu. I like Aubrey Plaza.

Interesting, I thought it would be a one-time narrative of 'the story'. Fingers crossed too. Did you ever see The Terror (series 1 - the one in the Arctic). Enjoyed that for the same kind of slow atmospheric development - though the actual 'terror' bits were the weakest part for me.

     Absolutely loved this.

I liked the Terror also but I thought the book was better.

The BBC have this and am getting into it - love the detail and the slow burn.

It's been renewed for another season. Hopefully they will keep the quality up. I liked it so much I ordered the book upon which the series is based on.

  11. I've got to think on this more but I know my favorite record of the year is Particle Kid "Time Capsule". It's a bit overlong but overall it's a stunner. I saw them open for the Flaming Lips a few weeks ago & they definitely bring it live. Micah Nelson is moving up my favorite musician list fast.

Maybe this should be in a different thread, but I didn't start it... We are 4 episodes in and thoroughly enjoying The Bear. The soundtrack is excellent and apropos. Thanks again, Chuck.

Perhaps I didn't get it on the right thread but wanted to put it out there. I have a lot (too much) going on right now & was being lazy. Glad I pointed it out to you. I don't know why I hesitated on the series at first. Probably because it was described as a comedy by some & I'm not really into comedy right now. Also, I was a little sick of Jeremy Allen White after the trainwreck that was the end of "Shameless". Glad I saw the error of my ways!
