Mimi Parker of Low has passed away from ovarian cancer.  I've been a long -time fan of Low.  Condolences to Alan and all who loved her.

RIP. Sorry I hit the wrong emoticon. Things don't sound too good for Andy Taylor of Duran Duran either.

  2. Things are bad everywhere. I think there's going to be trouble regardless of how the actual vote goes. Here's a wild one: in England the cost of power has gone out of control. It's so bad that the prostitutes (illegal) are demanding assistance because men don't have enough money to be "serviced"  due to the high cost of heat & power.

this will be my 4th time i think... always an entertaining show, though they pull a strange crowd.

Gene Ween moved into the part of Seattle I live in recently. Ya, they do have a weird mix of people who follow them. Personally,  I really like the band musically but the infantile humor thing wears out fast on me. I'm the same way about Frank Zappa. Dean Ween is an awesome guitar player.

I think it was more made fun of or written off In Europe rather than here. I think it's great. I saw it twice when it played in theaters.

BB King: Y'know, I don't play chords too well

Bono: Don't worry Mr King, Edge will handle that :D

My first thought when I read that was of the mostly horrible R.E.M. album Monster.

I like Monster. The tour was fantastic, too. It was a nice change of pace although I must say New Adventures in Hi-Fi was much better. In fact, that's my favortie REM record.

:D:D Manchester is an unincorporated community in Kitsap County. My mailing address is Port Orchard. From the spectacular Port of Manchester :lol you can see Seattle, and when it’s clear, Mt. Rainier. Close to the Bremerton ferry and Southworth ferry, so Seattle is easy. If you’re ever in the area, look me up. I’ll buy you a beer at the Manchester Pub.:cheers

I've been thinking about moving over to that side of the sound, maybe Poulsbo zone. I can't do it right now as it's really looking like I've got some major surgery coming by the end of the year or early next year. I live a few blocks from the Fauntleroy ferry dock in West Seattle. I've probably driven through Manchester a few times. Seattle is just becoming too expensive & of course the traffic is horrendous. The middle class is getting priced out. Having the West Seattle bridge back has made my life a little easier. When it was out it took me 1.5 hours to get to Pill Hill more than once. Ugly! I'm not getting out much right now but if I can get something like right we should hook up sometime.

Chuck, your point is well taken. If I came off as confrontational, I apologize. That was not my intent. I agree that Patty Murray is very invested in re-election, but I also believe that she does care about her constituents and promoting liberal values. Would I rather have a less, as you put it, entrenched senior senator? Yes. My point is that in our system, certainly for national and state-wide elections, you only get 2 actual choices. Any candidate that is not a Republican or a Democrat has no chance of victory. Therefore, unless they are a proven criminal, mentally unstable, etc., I am always voting for the Democrat. No lesser of two evils feeling or “nose holding” has ever occurred. Which of the two candidates that have a chance of winning best represents my values? It’s always the Democrat. It’s as simple as that. I’d rather have a parliamentary system with a short election period, only public money used for campaigning and ranked choice voting, but I live in the USA.

I wasn't trying to be confrontational either. The big pharma thing affects me personally in a huge way. I'm going broke with the current system. Chemo & other exotic drugs. I did vote for another Democrat in the primary but no name recognition value. There is 1 Republican ( not a trumpanzee) I'd vote for in a heartbeat: Mark Cuban. I've actually met him & he's trying to do something positive in the country. I don't think he'll ever run though as he'd be trapped. Question: I've lived in Washington almost all of my 61 years. Where the hell is Manchester?!?! :D

This is off topic, put I’ve never understood the term “career politician” or the need for term limits. In a democratic system, if you want to run again and your constituents elect you, that’s democracy in action. Should money be taken out of elections, as our democratic peers have done, making it easier for challengers and harder for incumbents?, no question. As long as an elected official votes the way I want them to, supports the causes I do and is capable of doing the job, I don’t give a damn how long they stay in office. I personally would not want to keep working any job into my 70s and beyond, but that’s me.

As for Patty Murray, she still does the business for the agenda I support. I don’t see a problem with her. Would I rather have a younger, like-minded senator? Maybe, but not necessarily. Also, Tiffany Smiley is running as an average Washington mom, an outsider, just like Patty Murray did 30 years ago. I’d bet my entire wealth that if she is elected (a frightening proposition) she would happily run again and again.

As for the topic, my efforts are behind any Democrat. I’m not a member of any political party, but in our current system, no other party I can support has a realistic opportunity to rule. It’s even more critical because the Republican Party, not all Republicans, is a party of nutters.

Patty Murray is pretty much phony. Anytime she's been asked a question about issues she does a pee pee dance & talks around the question without giving an answer. Did you know that Murray is the single biggest receipient from either party of largess from big pharma? Look it up. By definition that is counter to the good of her constituents. The problem with career politicians is they become addicted to the power, not to mention money from the public sugar tit & special interests. Rather than actually work for the constituents most of their time is spent ensuring they remain in power. Just my opinion but I think we would be better off with fresh ideas & energy every 12 years (less for house of representatives). I like to say I'm liberal but with common sense which is sorely missing on that side of the aisle much of the time. At least with Cantwell in Washington state it's not about the money as she was wealthy before she ran. 30 years + in office is too long. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I won't get into Smiley except to say she's a nightmare.

  9. It really hurt me but I voted for Patty Murray in WA. She's been in the senate 30 years & is just a classic career politician & an argument for term limits. That being said, her opponent Tiffany Smiley is an absolute nightmare. Think maybe a slightly toned down Marjorie Taylor Greene. It was a choice of lesser evil. Smiley actually trots out here blind veteran husband in ads for cheap pops. & surprisingly, Smiley is closing the gap in polls. Ugh!

I’m more of a Pete solo career fan. Was born in the 80’s 😜

Think the turning point for Genesis was when Steve Hackett quit & before bongo head really took over. Melting Face is my favorite Gabriel record. I saw him the next tour in a theater. I had 3rd row seat & Peter walked over my seat when he went out in the crowd. Plays Live was recorded on that tour, I think. Great show. So, was this a book signing or something?

PS: I was born in the 60s. :ohwell

Awesome!  I see Peter is no longer dressing as a flower!

The Flower Headdress - Peter Gabriel | Peter gabriel, Genesis band, Progressive rock

A flower!?!?!?!? heading down to Willow's farm....

Seriously, I used to be huge on Peter & Genesis to a point. I still listen to a bit of it but I'm not too huge on the prog rock anymore. In fact, the last time I saw Peter I had an epiphany. He was in a big arena with 10000 lighting cues, etc. After that show, went to a club to see Paul Westerberg . 2 guitars, Marshall stacks & a cloud of dust. The path became clear...the other epiphany was during the mega Yes tour where all the instruments were doubled & everyone did really loooooong solos. After the show we were calling Awaken the cheeseburger song. We could've walked out of the arena a few blocks, went to a famous Seattle drive-in, sat down & ate a cheeseburger, walked back to our seats & they would've been playing the same song

    The Flaming Lips

I've got tickets for a rescheduled show next month. I was really happy to see that Particle Kid is still opening. Did you catch Micah on this show? I really love his album (Time Capsule) that came out this year. That being said, I've been a fan of the Lips for a really long time. Hope the health issues don't get in the way of the show. Bought the tickets a really long time ago.

If neither your deck nor the Hideout work out, I just redid my patio with a 10'x12' gazebo and am happy to make that available for an intimate Wilco stage. Fire pit reserved for White Sox grumblings and laments!

How about those Mariners! I've recovered from the heart attack during the game yesterday. I'm so there for game 3 against the Houston Cheaters. Woo hoo!

The only silver lining to the White Sox missing the playoffs is that I'm wide open this Sunday!

My Mariners finally break the 21 year draught today in Toronto. Series will probably go 3 games with the Ms taking it (hopefully). If they can pull it off I've got 1 ticket for the first home game of the ALDS. If things go even better & we beat the Houston Cheaters (tough 1), I've got 1 ticket for the first home game of the ALCS. I was at the games the last time we were in the postseason. It's a lot more expensive now. I can only sort of afford 1 game a series. The country needs to get ready for Julio Rodriguez in the spotlight. All indications are that he thrives in that situation. Evidence: the HR derby this year. I think there's a pretty good chance that this kid (age 21) is going to be the face of baseball for a long time. He's been a joy to watch. I noticed that he's the only player out there signing autographs for kids before every game. He seems to have his head on right unlike say Tatis in San Diego. GO Ms!!!!!

    Afghan Whigs tonight

I was a bit underwhelmed by the Whigs last night & left a bit early. Pink Mountaintops opened & were ok. The Whigs used to have more nuance (for lack of a better term). Last night was just loud & Greg Dulli was a bit screechy. At least it was inexpensive...

Nice to see this band back on the road. Just looked up the setlist from the first night in Latvia. Isn’t that where Doctor Doom is from in Marvel Comics?

A couple of debuts for the first night. I’m sure there will be more. It also notes that this is Perry Bamonte’s first show since 2004.

Yes, I’m so excited!  They’ll be in NYC on May 5.  Hoodoo Gurus are one of my all time favorite bands.  :)

At 1 point the Gurus came to Seattle for a theater show & the day before they played an invite only show in a tiny bar. I think there were only 2 songs repeated between the shows. This was definitely in younger & wilder days so I got real polluted for the club show. I was standing in front of the stage screaming for "Middle of the Land" & they played an excellent version of it. Like most of the Aussie bands, really nice guys.

I would argue that Robert Smith & Morrissey are way more mopey, but I still love the both of them. Speaking of Robert Smith, I feel like I’ve been reading about a new Cure album for the past 4 years. I did notice that they’re starting a tour this week.

Anyways, I’d recommend their Devotional Tour concert video. Gahan isn’t in the best frame of mind at all, but they sound so fucking amazing on that tour. And the stage show is something else.

Most of the past 5 tours going back to 2001 all blend together in terms of setlist & stage production, but they still put on a great show.

Gahan’s voice is still smooth and fantastic. He did Bowie’s Heroes justice on the last tour.

I try not to use the word hate but I really disliked their version of Heroes. Can't stand solo Morrissey either. I do like the Cure a lot. We'll find out tomorrow what the setlists are going to be like for the European tour. I hope they include some of the alleged new material but if I were betting on it I would guess Wish 30. & the Cure were talking about the new record in 2016. I suspect Robert might smoke a lot of pot & you know that can make you a bit lazy. Combine that with perfectionist tendencies, it's a nightmare to get anything done. Reeves Gabrels is one of my favorite guitar players & I'm dying to hear what he comes up with in the studio with the Cure. I saw 2 shows in 2016 & Reeves was amazing,. Him & his wife are really nice people to boot.

  19. For some reason I can't stand DM. Just never really struck a chord with me. Too mopey I think. I like depressing music but with DM it just seemed put on to me. It's nothing like my psychotic dislike of anything to do with the Hateful Fred (GD) though, haha. More power to you if you like them. Just don't try to hijack the site like the Fredheads do, haha.
