  1. Given the amount of times I've participated in this thread, I'm obviously a big Jay fan. I'm really digging this after having a full week or so to listen. I'd put Lost Souls, Cherokee St, Sinking Down and Promise the World up there with anything he's done previously. This is a huge step following Honky Tonk. When they released the title of this album months ago, I was worried this record would be a Jay Farrar plays the blues thing like Honky Tonk was for classic country. Outside of Shine Down and Angel of the Blues, that record is very easy for me to forget. On Honky Tonk the instrument
  2. Ryan Adams (with/without Cardinals) 1. Starting to Hurt 2. Let it Ride 3. My Winding Wheel 4. Afraid Not Scared 5. A Kiss Before I Go
  3. Thanks jff. I have a nice blue tooth Bose system. I can get a turntable to synch with it? Sorry, I'm not very audio inclined...
  4. Hi All, I'm thinking of making a return to listening to vinyl (of course I sold all my records about 10 years ago). Not looking at getting an expensive set up. Anybody have any recommendations on turntables with built in speakers?
  5. I'm rather enjoying the new record. I don't want to sound like a fan who's asking an artist to try to recreate their former self, but Ryan is never going to recapture the muse he had during the Heartbreaker/Gold/Demolition/Cold Roses era that I will always hold dear. Prisoner is a good listen though.
  6. I agree. I had a friend who interviewed Jay (I think during The Search or ACD), and Jay didn't want to discuss Jeff or UT. I think all reporters want to take him in that direction. I don't think he's intentionally going to the Jeff/UT well. If Jay was looking to drum up reunion talk to sell merchandise, Jeff would probably have gotten name recognition in Jay's book.
  7. So am I...I meant that if a UT reunion went the same way as a the Olson/Jayhawks reunion, I'd rather just remember the past with UT. No Depression
  8. If it's going to go anything like that Olson/Jayhawks reunion went, I'd prefer to just remember the olden days...
  9. It's getting me through the pile of essays I need to grade today! Thanks Jay.
  10. I was thinking IV. When the Levee Breaks/Black Dog/Going to California. Either way we're really nerding this up.
  11. I read somewhere that he had two sets of songs he was working on, then one day while listening to a Led Zep record he came to the conclusion that it was OK to combine the two styles.
  12. Promise the World and Back Against the Wall have that original lineup sound. Jay has often struggled with wordiness/awkward phrasing. I like how he simplified the lyrical approach to match the more authentically blues tunes. On first full listen, it has a number of keepers. Really liking Lost Souls, Sinking Down and Cherokee St. I'm a big Son Volt/Jay fan, so I'm naturally biased. I'll be interested to read what others think...

  14. I have two for the Thursday show I'm looking to sell to a Wilco fan. Let me know if you're interested...

  17. See Manchester. Sad and long, but a great film.
  18. Beck Girl Lost Cause Where It's At The New Pollution Think I'm in Love ^ Can't believe Jack Ass isn't on the list I just posted...
  19. https://soundcloud.com/thirtytigers/son-volt-cherokee-st/s-WgIpY Another new one from the upcoming record. Didn't love it at first, but it's growing on me...
  20. ^^ Like both Superchunk lists, but I'd add From the Curve to both... Interpol The Heinrich Maneuver All the Rage Back Home Pace is the Trick My Blue Supreme Evil
  21. After a long DBT hiatus (I haven't gotten into anything since Go Go Boots), I'm back with this new record.
  22. Now, here's a band I haven't thought about in a while (I apologize if I get these titles wrong): Positive Bleeding The Break Back on Me Nite and Gray The Candidate Wow, they played some epic shows in Chicago in the early 90's and I always had to go it alone. All my friends hated UO.
  23. On the radio yesterday, the DJ said Beck described his new album as a collection of "party songs." So, Dreams and Wow are probably a pretty good representation of the whole record.
