  1. I called WFNX (alternative medium market) late, late one night in early 1992 and asked the guy to play 'Hey Ladies' by the Beastie Boys and he said - 'The Beastie Boys? Are you kidding me?' and hung up. Fast forward three months and the station has 'So What'Cha Want' in heavy rotation...
  2. Re: SNL - the first performance was my introduction to the band, and I thought it was fantastic. Can't believe I'm hearing disappoint - they must be awesome.
  3. Just make sure your tattoo artist spellchecks 400,000 times before the needle hits your arm.
  4. I like Adbusters but this seems like a great waste of time.
  5. That was awesome: somehow more fascinating without sound - a true document.
  6. This needs to be quoted again. Stupid, stupid, stupid. You can back it up all you want with that 'fringe player' 'percentagewise chance of making it' 'bull semen' crap - saying a player would be an idiot not to take something that is documented to fuck you up big time in the long run - is fucking bullshit and stupid, stupid, stupid.
  7. I feel the same way. The rest of the songs are so good though, it might still be my favorite Wilco album.
  8. I think that's a bit unfair. Page & Plant toured, yes, but with an album of new material under their belt. And Plant has certainly done some awful stuff -cough 'Tall Cool One' cough- but the 3 have never actually gotten together post-Bonzo's death and toured as Led Zeppelin. I think he's both into this Alison Krauss thing and not interested in going too far with LZ's legacy.
  9. Owen Meany was recommended by a friend who told me he tried and stopped twice over the course of a year before getting through it his third time. I think that helped me keep going.
  10. You'll snap out of it - you're supposed to be dumb in college.
  11. How does Beck handle 'Leopard Skin'?
  12. Kinda reminds me of the promo video of the Hank Scorpio town in The Simpsons - where the homeless man morphs into a mailbox.
  13. So now mainland homeless have a place to spend those extra hundreds of dollars they've all been squirreling away - airfare!
  14. Someday that will hit me the right way and I'll read it (tried twice).
  15. Creed calling Andy 'Jim' was great, because I do that myself while watching sometimes. Oscar's "Ahh, my desk is over here..." to get away from Andy was brilliant.
  16. A Prayer For Owen Meany - John Irving (nice to see this one all over this thread!) Breakfast of Champions - Kurt Vonnegut Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift The Catcher In The Rye - JD Salinger The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald There are so many honorable mentions, it sucks to leave out some great writers (Peter Guralnick, Paul Auster, Sam Shepard, David Sedaris, Tom Perotta) but there are no books I like enough to replace any of the above. They all made me "feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off."
