I think it's a fair comparison, but it stops at the bands' initial impacts upon their respective scenes.

I saw it then too, and my friend and I were in tears laughing at it during the end credits. Then I saw it on cable a couple of years later and was like THIS IS NOT THAT MOVIE ANYMORE. It's really worth another try.
