    Backstage at Largo

    Friday February 25

Orphan (Spencer on thigh slaps. Macie Stewart & Sima Cunningham on backing vocals.)

    — Jeff explains that they are backstage at Largo at the Coronet Theater.
    — Jeff gets his “game face” on, as do the rest of the band.
    — Jeff can’t reveal who’s next door in the backstage area because it’s a surprise for the audience. Susie says that the surprise was ruined on social media by using the surprise guest’s initials. Jeff jokes “how do they know it’s not Norm Oscarberg.”
    — the band members give Susie their names & ages.
The Losing End (Neil Young cover. Spencer on thigh claps & backing vocals. Macie, Sima, Liam & Sammy on backing vocals. James Elkington on an unplugged electric guitar.)

It Must Be Love (Labi Siffre cover. Spencer, Macie, Sima & Sammy on backing vocals and thigh slaps. James Elkington on electric guitar.)

    — Jeff hopes that the show gets picked up, while they’re out in Los Angeles.

We were all treated to a very surprise stream of the backstage rehearsal. I sure hope that Norm Oscarberg was a hit tonight.

Norm was terrific, and he even had a surprise guest of his own, his former castmate Jason O' Hara! :monkey:rotfl

So Largo is a pole dancing club? Interesting choice of venue.

Unfortunately Largo doesn't allow photography during the shows, so I can't show you any of the dazzling performances. 😢

  3. Am I missing a topic, or has everyone stopped reading? I sort of doubt that, but it appears we need a 2022 reading thread so here we are.

I've just finished the most amazing and absorbing book about Juana of Castile, who was the last Spanish queen. Her story proves the saying that life is stranger than fiction can ever be. What a life she led, and was forced into...and what sheer strength and resolve and bravery she brought to it.  Read this book. I was mesmerized and had trouble even putting it down for at least the last half of the book. Absolutely beautifully written. You'll love being in the thick of it, and not soon forget this woman. Or this author.

Historical fiction at its finest. Only called fiction, necessarily, because some meetings and events must be imagined.

  4. It has seemed far away for so long that I'm a bit startled to realize that in 4 days I get to see the TWEEDY BAND.

OMG, is anybody else going? I need to wash my hair. :mellow

ID yourselves, I'll make us a list! I'll be somewhere up front (I promise) so please, come and say hi! :hug

Way over 2 years since I bought the tickets finally seeing Drive-by Truckers tonight. It will be a challenge as I had a rugged week with doctors & medicine being practiced on me. If all goes well, The War on Drugs to follow on Tuesday.

May the rock gods be with you! And I hope some good is gotten from your treatments.:thumbup

i don't remember Justin in The Babies but i did see them once because of the Morby and Cassie/Vivian Girls connection. I liked this song a lot back in the day, will have to check out Justin's work.

He and Cassie were a couple for awhile.

Night Shop's 2018 album, "In the Break", is a great place to begin listening. John Stirratt is a huge fan of this album too. I'm just learning the newest album (Forever Night) but I can tell I'm going to love it. The title track is a lot of fun. I'm a sucker for a terrific lyric and Justin always has an interesting perspective! I could listen to him all day.

He's also a phenomenal live performer!

  7. Just got home from the most fabulous Record Release Party for the brilliant Justin Sullivan of Night Shop, at Zebulon in L.A, one of my favorite clubs. Anna St. Louis opened with a gorgeous set, and after a break Justin blasted onstage with his band & "Forever Night", the title cut of the newly-released album. The crowd outdoors on the patio quickly moved inside and from there on it was a pure party. SO much fun, damn but he's good! The place was jumpin'!:banana

My husband and I ran into Justin's former bandmate (Babies) & an alumnus of Solid Sound, Kevin Morby, there to help Justin celebrate. Kevin stuck to cheering as an audience member. What a great show!!!

    It's 2:17 a.m. and I can't wind down. :rock

This is my first time posting and I hope I'm not doing it incorrectly! I'm looking for 2 tickets for Chicago Saturday night if anyone has any to sell! Please let me know :-)

Hi Kernel, welcome to Via Chicago! :wave I was going to advise you to post this request in our Tickets sub-forum, called "How to Fight Loneliness", but I checked and saw that you found that & posted there too. Good luck! I know there are some extra tickets floating around out there, so I hope someone can help you out. :thumbup

  9. I'm really happy with this lineup. A terrific mixed bag of new and unfamiliar acts with tried & true & trusted ones that I'll love to see again. Styles ranging all over the map, with something to please everyone. Lucky #7 is going to be charmed. :banana

Looking forward to Cut Worms, JB, Hand Habits, so many others!
